I have a tenuous link to farming- my best mate is a farmer- I'm a town boy. I can see the problems for farmers thru' him - but I don't think any of my neighbours have a clue (or give a sh*t) - I thought that Covid with all it's perceived shortages would focus us on food and manufacturing security and Ash Die Back on bio-securities, etc etc. Has is it? No, people would rather a £3.50 chicken - they want to spend their money on fancy phones, leased cars, throw-away fashion, take-aways, designer coffee - I'm stopping my rant now. It bring lump to my throat in what's happening to farming- 25 years from now?? I dread to think........
Yes, we stand with our farmers, but it's naive to imagine it can be reversed. While the Government allow subsidised imports from Europe & other parts of the world & work hand in glove with t supermarkets, British farmers will continue to go out of business. I think the government WANTS farmers to go out of business. They should impose tariffs on imports & force supermarkets to pay British farmers at least a mark up on that price. Not only might that enable our farmers to make a living & stay in business, but think of the carbon footprint of food imported from America, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, the Far East, Africa & Middle East & European countries, never mind the FACT that their standards are lower than ours & it's not as fresh if it's imported.
@gillycooper8717 The governments all over the West are out to minimise farming.Your assessment is spot on.The elites are buying up land so they can control the food supply.Control that,it's easier to control the people.Resistance is needed on a massive scale and soon.🏴🇬🇧
Gareth , farmers need to go on strike, you are not extendable nor is food production, at some point in the future, there will be world food shortages and world famine, not in my life time but the time will come.
We need a food shortage!! Might wake a few up to the reality of being hungry, it won't be the politicos and the upper echelons that go hungry. A lesson from history, there was a shortage of food in France in 1789 and Russia in 1917 the the upper classes then suffered!!!
