FYI, the KOA in Townsend is awesome also, very close to Cades Cove. During the summer on Wednesdays, Cades Cove is bicycles only on the 11mi loop. This starts on the first Wed of May. That's pretty awesome if you have an ebike, no traffic jams and less people. Next time your in Cherokee, check out the Happy Holiday campground on the East end of town. Riverfront sites and a lake inside. Super management. The fresh pizza to go made in their store is incredible for $14, all the toppings you want, no extra charge!
4 night minimum in the Fall at the Townsend KOA. Unfortunate deal killer for us as we have a big family gathering there every fall but not everyone can stay that long.
We love Little Arrow in Townsend! It’s the last campground before you get into Cade’s Cove. It’s a beautiful area and Townsend is a bit off the typical tourist path. FWIW, while we were there, our Great Pyrenees got sick and the vet in Townsend was just amazing! She got Jolie all fixed up and was just wonderful.
How to exciting to watch a video and see our little town of Franklin! We have 13 acres off 28 north that we are slowly working on each time we come up from Florida! We love all of that area. Beautiful colors in the fall.
Thank yall for a great, informative video. I believe someone could stay in that area for 6 mos. and still not see everything. Beautiful area, and it all looked like it was Miss Daisy approved. Thank ya'll for all the effort that ya'll put into these videos and for taking us along with you. God bless ya'll and stay safe on your travels to these beautiful spots.
Very helpful video! I live in North GA, and grew up going to the Smokies. Now that I am retired I hope to visit it more often. I just hope the issue with everything being full all the time subsides some.
Driving into the bird place by Gatlinburg with all the Parrots and other birds is a very steep driveway. I bet you heard "Chad doggone it stop it " a lot. lol.
Our Utah trip got canceled in September So we started to take a trip One travel day from Florida So we ended up staying at the Margaritaville, RV and resort in pigeon Forge The Smokies are beautiful We had a great time up there I know you guys love it so much it’s beautiful. Safe travels
When in Bryson City on the bike, go straight thru Bryson and follow that road to the “Tunnel to nowhere” but be aware there are some breaks in the roadway and when walking through the tunnel take a flashlight and watch for horse poop!! Also Bryson City and Dillsboro are where the movie “The Fugitive” with Harrison Ford was filmed. The train is still in Dillsboro.
We’ve stayed at Rose Creek 3 times. We get the same site(on purpose) and really like it. It’s clean, quiet, nice pool, good base for Franklin visits, camp host is awesome. Poor or intermittent cell phone service, though. Met the owners, really nice people.
Loved this video since I'm a born and bred Waynesville-ian, but we gotta get you guys over to Waynesville for some fun. You kind of glossed over Waynesville and that told me you havevn't spent much time at our festivals, fabulous Main St, breweries and great restaurants. Creekwood RV in the Waynesville area is our favorite campground - so much so that we have spent a week there with friends even though we live less than 15 minutes away, LOL! So glad you guys are such fans of the Smokies. Hope to meet you on the road someday.
We did spend 10 days at Lake Junaluska Campground but weren't impressed with it enough to recommend it... But we loved the area! : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qb3JgxwoJMM.html
I WANT TO PERSONALY THANK YOU FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL VIDEOS AND ESPECIALY YOUR DIALOGUE, I AM AN ELDERLY WIDOWER AND VICARESLY LIVING ALONG WITH YOU KIDS. GOD BLESS, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. BOB FROM MESA ARIZONA.
We are 15 mins from Anchors Down near the headwaters of Douglas Lake, but I am full timing in NC until I can get a job here. Once that happens, we will be full timing in the driveway (again) while we gut and remodel the interior of the house.
I hope you will try Roan Mountain, Tennessee. There is a State Park and , at least two other campgrounds within two miles the state park campground. Please visit. Reservations are recommended.
We’ve stayed at the KOA in Cherokee as well as Anchor Down in Dandridge. The KOA was one of the nicest KOA’s that we’ve been to. Anchor Down is just on another level. It was amazing!
Great Video. Being from NC, we need to camp more out that way. The GSM rail way is great, esp at Christmas with the Polar Express..and not just for kids. Thanks for sharing lots of videos of great campgrounds out that way.
That part of the country is great. Unfortunately some of the amenities on the Blue Ridge have disappeared. I don't know if that is by design or lack of business or what, but there used to be a really neat gas station and diner just South of the North Carolina line where I waited out some dense fog on a motorcycle trip a few decades ago. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Anchor Down is certainly worth visiting, a beautiful park. We got stranded last November waiting for a new leaf spring and they were able to get us in but we had to move twice. We really enjoyed our time there. Nice place to be stranded.
Moonshine campground is my favorite.... Your rig to big but if you can take a smaller rig its a must !! Ive been to a bunch over the country snd its hands down top 5 .....
Another excellent and super informative vid!! Really do appreciate the fact that you're showing me parts of my home state that I have never visited but I'll now have on the list. Thanks Guys!!
We stayed at Cades Cove campground and biked Cades Cove. Definitely recommended. From Virginia, you really cannot go wrong with any of the campgrounds in Shenandoah National Park for leaf watching. Plus we also have part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our perspective may be a little different because we don’t RV. We camp in our small square drop camper.
Both Cherokee and Townsend KOAs are nice. Townsend is known as the quiet side of the smokies and is an easy drive to Cades Cove. Cherokee KOA was redoing their pool and patio area a year ago and looked like it would be really nice.
A must stop is Riverwalk on the Yadkin River if you're traveling up or down I77 in NC. It is a true hidden gem. Lots of amenities and events every Saturday.
I've camped at Rose Creek several times. My wife and I love mining there. In fact, there's great mining all over the Franklin area. We've found many kinds of gems there over the years, garnets, star sapphires, rubies, emeralds and even a rare 25 carat star ruby. It cut out to about 6 carats and according to the gemologist is worth in the $600-800/carat range. On the other side of the highway, a little down from the Great Outdoors RV Resort is the Mi Mountain CG. It's a little tighter than the Great Outdoors RV Park, but we had no problem with our 35ft MH and toad. It's cheaper, secluded and has great views too. Our campsite was a pull-through with a nice deck. It's been 5 yrs. since we stayed there, but back then it was only $550/mo. w/30a electric during color season. BTW, I used to live in Waynesville back in the 90's when things were cheap. I only paid $300/mo. for a 1,700sq. ft. 2 story town house overlooking the gorgeous Maggie Vally golf course. Those were the days! I used to work for Waynesville Cycle Center about a mile from the parkway and enjoyed some spectacular rides in the area back in my knee dragger days.
Just got back from little arrow. Excellent park. Thank you for the great video. Now I know where to go next year this time. Can’t wait to go back. Yo, keep doing awesome videos.
We’ve just got back from Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. We stayed at Douglas Dam Headwater campground. We drove over to Cherokee NC and it was such a beautiful drive.
Dandridge, Anchors Down is HANDS down the best campground in Tennessee. We love it so much we are planning on quitting our jobs to be camp hosts next May. Its heaven on earth. Townsend KOA is VERY nice as well and butts up against the creek with access to swim or float.
'Leaf peeping' sounds so creepy for such a beautiful sight. We love to look at the leaves changing color around here in MN, but never heard it called that.
We love Anchor Down and have been several times but we also want to stay somewhere further South. Mama Gertie’s looked like an amazing place. Thanks for sharing!
Anchor down is a beautiful park, and its wroth the wait, The last time we stayed and put. our name on the list it was a two year wait...We haven't been back because of that wait, Little arrow is great as well, BUT with a Large rig it Is very difficult to get in and out , IF you go in the section by the river. The section that has the party sites OR buddy sites would be the way to go, So If we go back we'll try to stay in one of the other sections ,
We stay in Clabough’s RV Park. About 1/2 mile down Wear’s Valley Rd towards Townsend off the main strip in Pigeon Forge. It is quiet and we usually get a spot right on the back side that has a stream. We tried the cruise you are doing. It was the maiden voyage of the Ocean Princess back in 2002. It got held up in dry dock for maintenance and they canceled the first 2 cruises. They gave us our money back, no questions asked, and a voucher for the next cruise, no time limit. Princess Cruise lines have the best customer Svc. We took the money and flew to Anchorage, AK. and got hotels and a Ford Expedition. We drove and saw Valdez, Fairbanks, Sodotna, Ninilcik, Denali N.P., North Pole, Tok, Chicken, and the Chena River.
We've stayed at several of these, including Anchor Down and it is fantastic 😍 We've also stayed at The Great Outdoors ~ the 1st time in 2019, you guys were also there 😀 and thanks to your Mama Gerties video, we've decided to brave the incline and are going next year! Some of these are new to us though and we'll definitely have to check them out 💙 Thanks for sharing!
We just got back home in Central NC from Gorges State Park in Sapphire, NC (Transylvania County). IMO it is the best campground in the NC Park System. Full hookups, paved sites, and the nicest restroom I have ever seen in any State Park. There are waterfalls, cure towns like Cashiers and Brevard. Leaves were starting to change. Also, talk about hills, I am guessing the road out of the campground was easily a 19% grade!
Now I know that you guys were focusing on RV parks and that Cades Cove Campground has NO hookups, but camping there through the weekdays is wonderful. On Wednesday morning, when the loop road is closed to cars, get up before daylight, pack a lunch or snack, and head out on bikes when there is just enough light for safety. Pick a blue bird morning. Glorious. Animals out everywhere. Green sunlight mountain tops to the west against a blue sky backdrop. You won't regret it. But never do it on weekends. Monday mornings are good too because everyone has left the campground.
Guys, if you ever get the chance, try the Townsend KOA. It’s our favorite of all campgrounds, though we haven’t had the experience that the two of you have. It’s located .03 miles outside the south entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains. The Tail of the Dragon is about 15 minutes from the campground.
Hay Chad & Christy , if you get a little west of Gatlinburg we would love to have you at Davy Crocket camp Ground in Crossville Tn.. I live there and would love. To meet. You, & we have a great camp ground with lots of emanates..
OMG, it is tough to haul your three axel toy hauler up the mountain in your Ford F450! The length is scarey, the Smokey/Blue Ridge Mountains and the visability of the drive on Parkway is tough, and it is hard to get there off of US26 in the Scary Fog! Just saying that in retirement, we plan our travel in daylight hours!
Have you heard anything about Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds Campgrounds in Hiawassee? We are going over Christmas week. Also, i wanted to mention, my husband is CVMA also. 20-4
Yah’ll advertising hot spots too much.Heading there next week.I could tell yah about some real secret places 100 mile radius of some said places mentioned. Just beautiful I tell yah!
If you visit Petosky, stay at Magnus city campground. It's right on the water, cheap, and convenient. Lots of bike trails. The old homes in this town are fun to drive by, incredible restorations and architectures. Traverse City State park is nice too. We just stayed at both of these parks in Sept. The UP has a few nice parks too on Lake Superior.
So at the 4:55 moment during the Rose creek campground, was the camera playing tricks or did a ghost walk across the road? 😱. I know it is a smudge on the window but it looked exactly like someone walking
The grade of a road, often expressed as a percentage, refers to the measure of its steepness or incline. It is calculated by taking the vertical rise (how much it goes up or down) for a specific horizontal distance and then expressing this rise as a percentage of the horizontal distance. For instance, if a road rises 5 meters over a 100-meter distance, its grade would be 5%. A higher grade percentage means a steeper road, and a 0% grade represents a flat or level road.
