Our first visit to The Algarve since February 2020, looking for winter sun, low crowds and a great place to spend sometime.

Nice to see you back in Portugal. Great place to escape Canadian winters. Little side note, the “c” in preco is a soft “c” like “price”. The comma under the “c” always indicates a soft “c”. Thought that might be helpful 😊!

Norm and Tina, we also love the Algarve we have flown there on many occasions and have driven there twice from England. I would recommend the cafe/restaurant Cantinho do Dora in Armacao de Pera. It is situated near the Holiday Inn, the toasties are enormous and good value for money. They also do a meal of the day which is extremely cheap, love the clips on RU-vid . Regards Gary Smith

We were in Portugal last year. Love it. We thought we could use the train as public transport however we found it difficult to get information about the system. The tracks ran right by our hotel but we didn’t know how to access it. The info we did get indicated that the train was more for longer travel. Not get on and off easily. Could you do a video on the train system to explain how it works?

Looks fun! The fireworks reminded me of my many years visiting Hawaii and the fireworks each weekend on the beach at Waikiki. I remember walking out barefoot with warm breezes and gentle waves lapping at my feet watching the fireworks mirrored by the bayfront water.. it was amazing!... Okay ... the vacations we take!!! I am glad you had a wonderful trip!! Skipping Cold Winters is one of my favorite things!!

Love Tavera. Was there a few days ago. As I write I am sitting in Pingo doce having a number 4 on the menu. Coffee fruit drink pastel de nata and a cheese and ham croissant for €2.45

We were in Tavira on Christmas day a few weeks ago. Weather was nice and sunny. Lucky we found Indian restaurants that were open that day. One served Italian food as well. Everything else was closed.

I've been to Portugal numerous times and find the local buses are a great way to get around, particularly in the Algarve. You have to try the rotisserie chichen. Either piri piri or the garlic and herb. Best chicken you will ever taste! for dessert, pasteis de Nata best dessert ever! Yum Yum😂😂

I spent a day there. I was based in Villa Real San Antonio. Don't forget to visit and Monte Gordo, they are next door to Tavira on the train. Have a great time. Look forward to seeing more. ❤😊

Welocome back to Portugal , you are certainly having better weather than us. We live an hour north of Lisbon in Obidos and of the three winters we have lived here, it has been the wettest and the last week, the coldest. I hope you have an amazing time, Tavira and the East of Portugal towards the border with Spain is authentic and less commercial than the Western Algarve…Vila Real de Santo Antonio is worth a visit.

Glad to see you back in Portugal. At Tavira there is a train station and you can take a train to Olhão to the West, or Vila Real de Santo António to the east. Both are worth a trip if you fancy an excursion without the car. Enjoy the sun.

Funny you should say that on Jan 10 we were going on the train 🚂 to Vila Real , got to the station to be told they were on strike , it impacted the next day too so we didn’t get there 🇨🇦☕️🇵🇹

@@ThisIsOurRetirement That is a terrible shame. If you get the chance, it does have some pretty areas. I only visited Olhão for the first time last year and that was also worth a visit. In fact most of the towns are worth a visit, but I suspect you have looked into them. I really liked Loule town, Lagos and Silves. It is a lovely time of year. 👍

I think you miss a lot by not renting a car. There are lovely drives north of the Algarve into the hills, Alte, Monchique and many other lovely little villages. You also have contact with Portuguese people out of the tourist industry. Small family restaurants offering lovely food and hospitality. We will be in the Algarve soon, we always rent a car, it’s not expensive, and it opens up a whole new world in Portugal. Cold here in Ontario.

We have rented a car for four years and been everywhere Monchique, Cape St Vincent etc. Lisbon, Porto and Fatima.

Hi guys! Love the vids. We stayed in Albufeira for 6 weeks last year because of you. Loved it! We visited Tavira and had a lovely lunch at a small restaurant called “Tasquinha da Paula”. Super small, owner operated. Would recommend. ❤

I'm loving being back in Tavira for another long term stay. I have my main meal every day at lunchtime at a different restaurant and have never had a disappointing meal. It gives me the chance to walk it off after lunch in the daylight. You just have to learn to say "nao batates" (No potatoes), or you will end up with fries, boiled or roasted potatoes at every meal. I thought of you when I saw a new air fryer on sale for 40 Euros at Continente. You could buy it, use it for your stay, then donate it to a charity shop when you leave. Imagine a fresh (never frozen) tuna steak with veg or salad - there's nothing better! The churches are beautiful, the Fado incredible and the architecture amazing. A walk to Santa Luzia and back justifies a glass of wine with lunch! Lovely to have met you, and I hope you get a nice apartment in Tavira next time, and enjoy yourselves.

Fireworks!!! I’m sure it was a great surprise. We have been renting an housekeeping apartment for March in Olhos de Agua for 6 years and love it although it’s time for a change. We love the Algarve so sincerely thank you for doing some research for us this year. What other locations are you planning to stay during your 2024 stay? Is Mare’s Residencial in Tavira reasonably priced? I’m assuming it is hotel only? I look forward to next Saturdays video and hope you continue to have a wonderful, blessed time. Joan. 🎉

You can get the hotel between 60 -100 Euros a night , there are all different room types.Its a hotel that includes breakfast have a great weekend Cheers Joan 🇨🇦☕️🇵🇹

Awe, so good to see you back in the land that I love! I’m house-sitting 45 minutes north of Ottawa and taking a break from the already 3.25 hours of shovelling, after a massive snow storm… I have about another 2 hours to go… waiting for my drenched clothes to dry and I’ll get back out there before it gets too dark. My first winter back in Canada in 9 years … yay! Ugh! Bring on the Portugal content so I can get away from it all, virtually. Portugal, for me, was the first time I’ve ever experienced NYE fireworks… I don’t know about Toronto, but we never have them in Ottawa. Cheers ~

Just got back from Portugal. You inspired us and it was wonderful. We stayed in portimao so much walkable beach. Fireworks for ny was spectacular. Stayed in a couple of cities. Just loved it weather was so nice warmer than expected. Definitely a great option for winters We did rent a car and there were lots of times wish we didn’t have it.
