Yogyakarta used to be the Capital City of Indonesia long time ago while colonized (moved temporary from Jakarta regarding to political issues) and thats why it called D.I Yogyakarta (special district)... Nowadays Yogyakarta is becoming cultural city since many temples there and also there's still 'kingdom' as local/province legal authority...most of the local people still keep their traditional wise living way (royal family wise)
Jogja is a city of students, there's a top tier Uni (Gajah Mada University) so the people you see in the cafes could be workers, freelancers, or students...
Thank you for letting me know! It’s true, we saw a lot of students in the city and we also saw a lot of school buses by the attractions we visited! Overall, I loved Jogja! ❤️
