WE sat on the edge of our seats as a herd of wildebeest built up the courage to cross the Mara River during the annual wildebeest migration at the Mara Triangle Conservancy, with Isaac and James.
To realize that in The United States in the 1700's and early 1800's that there were more than 30 times (60+ million) Bison in herds that dwarfed these current herds of Wildebeast in Africa it is hard to imagine such numbers. Bison are huge and powerful animals that are larger than Cape Buffalo.Large bull Bison can reach weights of 2200lbs.and more and they regularly stand 6 feet tall at the shoulder. Bison run at 35mph and are quicker than most breeds of horse.Bison often just run through and over objects that get in their way, especially when they stampede, but they're quite capable of jumping over tall fences. Had we not decimated the great Bison herds in the mid to late 1800's,we would have plenty of one of the world's most healthy and delicious meats as well as excellent hides and a few other beneficial parts of the Bison. Trading our Bison for cattle was one of the worst mistakes man has made.
I was on the edge of my seat - scared but cheering them on to get across safely.. those crocs have speed when they want to!! .. the struggle to get up the bank .. thank you Isaac, James and the WE team ... truly heartstopping but spectacular ❣️
Saw it 'live' and wow!!. Such an amazing sight, the sheer number of animals, the sounds, the predators, and the end result of making it to the other side, is absolutely incredible. Thank you so much WildEarth. 👍👍👍
I watched this live, it made me cry. The sight, the sounds, it was AMAZING!!!- I cried last year too when l saw my 1st ever live crossing. Somehow l think l'll cry watching this SPECTACULAR sight every year!! 🤗💖🍀🐾🌈🇨🇦☘️
Ooh wow, amazing. I always find it hard to watch of course but a truly fantastic sight and sound. Thank you WildEarth for once again bringing us this amazing event. I was willing that last zebra on to make it to the top without breaking anything. To get across the river safely and then break a leg, and have a slow and painful death is too sad. But as Isaac(I think) said, it is all the natural way to control the animal numbers.
