Nice 👍🏼 Me and my husband will be doing this tomorrow soon as rocks are delivered- these looks like the rocks we ordered, nice color combo. were replacing barks… tired of them 😉
Looks good I've been doing this around my place the last two years , did the foundation, around my shed , just did a 8 ×10 paver patio with a fire pit and edged that too. One think i did discovere thought is periodically you gotta reset the no dig edging spikes they will start to come up , no big deal just gotta stay on top of them.
Just out of curiosity, how’s the wood at the bottom of that fence? I noticed you didn’t put any type of drain so does the water pool and eat the wood up? I’m planning on doing the same thing but was going to leave some space between the wood and the rocks. Then do a small French drain to keep the water away from the wood.
Don’t put landscaping fabric under the rocks because it keeps the water there and it will indeed rot the fence. If you don’t put the fabric, the water will drain through the ground. Landscaping fabric doesn’t even stop weeds anyway. So just apply weed killer once in a while.
@@jenshaw8085uhhh, bad advice. Nonwoven geotextile landscaping fabric does most certainly allow water to drain through it. And if installed properly should stop most weeds from growing through.
We did this last year around our foundation. Really helps with not having the rain splash mud all over which cuts back on the moss and mold from growing. Definitely worth the effort for some added curb appeal. We actually painted out foundation too. Looks like a brand new house.
It looks like to me that is plastic sheeting non permeable to water. Landscape fabric is not shiny like that. Plus if you look real close they’ve stapled up a little onto the fence. To me it looks like they are creating a drain for water to flow down towards the camera. Which is probably why he’s spraying it after to see if the fall under the rocks works My advice after 50 years of this stuff is that you really don’t want anything up against the fence. Rocks or tarp. I realize you are trying to catch the water off the fence but it will create more problems than it solves.
Please tell me How to stop crazy thistles and other invasive weeds coming out and under the fence from fire escape area and from my carefree neighbours’ lawns . I am an old lady and I am tired of pulling these weeds 😢
Those are heavy enough not to move. And if a storm does come through that's strong enough to move them, your last concern would be those rocks because your house will be off the foundation...
I am looking to do something like this for my mom's place. What type of landscape fabric was used? And may I ask why you were spraying the rocks with a hose afterward?
You can do that as long as it’s not going to be high enough to touch your siding if you have siding. You don’t want your soil/landscaping above the foundation. Ideally you would remove the mulch but if you don’t, you should spray it first with a weed killer. Once you cover the mulch and soil it’ll be like a greenhouse under there.
I just had rocks done in my front and I watched them and they did not put down the plastic stuff…. Sigh. They claimed to be a landscaping company called Bautista- I saw them on line but did not realize phone # were different. Shoot…. So is this a giant deal for in the future? I’m gonna have to have it redone I bet….. go ahead and laugh at me. These guys here did a beautiful job! It’s the rocks I wanted and everything- I got white rocks.
Probably just water :) Sometimes the gravel for river rocks come "dirty" with a lot of sand aos them, so rinsing the rocks after laying them down helps to not only clean them but also to bring out their colors :)
Doesn't make so much sense at the fence. This gravel on weed fabric style is an antipattern in the long term: the gravel gets dirty and weeds germinate above, root in the fabric. After a few years, it will be incredible hard to remove, probably leave rags in the soil. If plants are in the gravel, removing the fabric will damage the roots. Better plant something there without weed fabric, including dense ground cover. Organic mulch can be used the first years.
