I just visit Saigon from March 20 to March 24. Same as your guys, and I had a wonderful journey there. But I feel the price there to Tourist is much higher than that to their locals, especailly those markets in District 1. You know what, 1 kg of Arabica coffee bean in those market will be easy to over VND3,000,000. That is crazy!
@@cloverdover712 there 4 prices in Vietnam exsample local price tshirt $5 then there the expat price $7 the there tourist price $10 then there the Russian price $20 lol the sercret is when buying watch what locals pay and just give the same never pull out a lot of money just enough to cover the local price.. if they try to up the price dont get angry just laugh and smile you get local price in the end or expat price .. the reason Vietnam has a low return rate for tourist is they get over charge everyday from taxi to drinks to shopping .. in Europe usa etc the prices are clearly marked everyone same price .. with the opening of many malls now in Vietnam the prices are the same for everyone which is a good and bad thing .. ie those little stores will be gone some day that wahat makes Vietnam special
We were there 1-4 March. I found that using Google Translate was my most useful tool. Take a picture of a Vietnamese word or phrase and the screen would display an English translation over the original text. Plus a good ice breaker when I spoke into my phone and it reapeated what I said in Vietnamese.
I was stationed at Nha Be, south east of Saigon, and made numerous trips into the city to maintain US Navy communications equipment. I was struck by the tremendous changes you showed in the city, to be expected in the 53 years that have past. Glad you are having a good time.
Thank you for your service, Tim. I bet it does look drastically different from then and now. It was a very interesting city and we had a great time there! Thanks and thanks for watching!
Thanks for making your videos 'family friendly" as I am able to take my middle school students on a virtual field trip. Several of my students are from Vietnam and I am happy to share their culture with my other students. The quality of your videos continues to be outstanding. I am looking forward to viewing more of this beautiful country.
Oh that’s so awesome! We’re glad we can be a resource! I (Adam) had many Vietnamese students when I taught and a few have reached out since they’ve seen we were here. That has been fun Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
As a vietnamese australian, my respects goes towards you for learning and understanding the vietnamese culture. Your videos are awesome and knowledgeable showing the culture ans understanding of history. It shows your viewers how much you care and research. Not many channels showclass these. Appreciate your channel and hard work.
One of my favorite videos y’all have ever made. It is really something to see what every day Vietnam looks like today. This is a very educational video, I am going to make my husband and kids watch it. Also, the food looks a lot stuff we can get in Texas so we must have a huge Vietnamese influence here, I am surprised that I am surprised. Thank you for sharing your travels with us.
Texas is home to the second largest Vietnamese population in the US. Not sure where you’re located in Texas but Houston has a tons of great Viet restaurants :)
That's so awesome to hear! Thank you so much! Houston has a huge Vietnamese population! You can definitely find lots of great Vietnamese food in many parts of Texas. Thanks for watching!
Loving that you chose Vietnam as your first country to travel in Asia...it's a beautiful country full of history (much of which was spent warring, so to see the country able to rise above it despite the disadvantages and obstacles handed to them, is amazing!) Unfortunately, a lot of history was destroyed when more American bombs were dropped on the land than all of WWII. Hue's Imperial City and a lot of the amazing ancient Cham architecture was blasted out of history. What a crime against humanity as that's like blowing up Angkor Wat, Mach Picchu, or the Egyptian pyramids...that's just something I find absolutely unforgivable. The Vietnamese are a very forgiving lot. More so than Americans can ever be if the position was reversed.
It is such a beautiful country and we're so glad we chose it to explore first in Asia! It is a real shame the destruction that was caused to the country.
Thanks for sharing history. - US army and Korean army even killed many village when people were just old, kids and women in those villages. You can visit those village in Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi provinces. - Japan made around 2M people die when they came here too. - Australia aslo came here for helping US army. - Thailand let US rented land for keeping bom... - After we got free from US 1975, we were the most poor country of the world. - Then we helped Combodia freedome from pon pot (like Hitle in Germany and Ytali), and helped biulding Combodia from 0 to recover from from 1979 to 1989. Same time we protected North of Vietnam cos china wanted to make Vienam weak until 1989. - US and many countried didnt have conection with Vietnam coz they thought Vietnam made war in Combodia. They just didn't want to see the true Vietnam helped Combodia and many many Vietnames die coz ponpot coz protectuon Combodia even Vietnam is very very tired after finishing war from France 100 years, US 21 years and china over 1.000 years... We just could open from 1995 after US let Vietnam free with economic...
I agreed! I"m Vietnamese living in America for the past 48yrs and I love America too. But, I find Vietnam is more interesting because of the rich history and mixed cultures of the French, Chinese infuences. I love Vietnam and plan to go back for my retirement.
I’m of the generation that served in Vietnam if we had been in the military and, at least, watched it every night on the news. It really is amazing to see the changes that an energetic people have wrought since the end of the war. Thank you!
Like we mentioned, we have been watching The Vietnam War documentary by Ken Burns and have learned so much from it. It is interesting see the differences in the cities from then and now!
The more I watch your video the more I loved . Thanks so much for sharing ! Do not forget to try some durian and so many good fruits in VN . You would not be disappointed ever ! Support from 🇺🇸 . 💖💖💖💖💖😘😘

Vietnam is beautiful and I appreciate that you try to show us a bit of everything in all of your videos. Food, fun, scenery, history and much more. The post office is in a magnificent building' Thank you Aaron and Katherine for sharing your travels with us. Oh, how can I forget to mention the airport..WHAO...It's very impressive.😊
That's very cool to see you are going to Asia for the first time and to my homeland. I think a lot of people don't realize that Vietnam is so beautiful, safe, friendly and easy to get around. It's wonderful that you are sharing your experience with the world to see. I was there last November and did the Ha Giang loop, and I'm assuming you are going to do the same. Your videos are well done. Safe travels and love your wandering spirit!
We are having a wonderful time in Vietnam! It is exactly as you say...beautiful, friendly people, and very easy to get around! It's everything we hoped for and more. Yes we will be doing a guided motorbike trip near Ha Giang very soon! We're so pumped! Thanks and thanks for watching!
I never thought Viet Nam was so modern. Truly amazing., and clean. The people seemed all friendly. The $ prices also amazed me. Can't wait for the next episode. Thanks for letting us tag along. 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🙋♂️
It's not all that modern (or clean, unfortunately). HCM is definitely a lot more modern than many other cities. It's still an amazing country, with great people, as you said!
Sections of it is modern, but you can still get the old sections in other districts. Da Nang is known to be a modern city that many digital nomads loved living in (well, until they got kicked out since they were living cheaply but not paying taxes for long term residents).
@@vyacheslavzgordan6725 These aren't regular tourists, they were basically bypassing the law and squatting there because it's cheap. If they are using resources, then they should pay taxes - especially considering they are living there because they get quality stuff like housing, food, views, etc., for dirt cheap.
I've lived aboard 48 yrs still everytime I saw these videos. The nostalgia of my beautiful motherland always come back. I will retire soon back to Vietnam.
I appreciated all the history and food and fun that you shared. The city was more beautiful than I would have thought! Looking forward to your future videos of Vietnam.
WOW - what a beautiful city!! Thanks for sharing! All the food looks amazing, including the coffee! And that Book Street - what a dream! I really appreciate you also sharing the "heavy" stuff, too. Thanks again!
Wow! What an adventure! That post office was beautiful! It did look like a train station! The tunnels were amazing and I can't imagine living in them. So much interesting history. The architecture was beautiful also and the food! I think we are going to go have some ramen at one of our favorite places. I've never had a Bahn mi but there are places around here that have them. May have to try that too. Can't wait to see what comes next. Stay safe and have fun!
HCMC was a great starting point for us! Tons to see and do there and yes lots of history. We're excited to share more! It's just gotten better and better!
I feel like I'm right there with you! Viet Nam is a touchy subject for us old people. Lost a few friends over there and the public sentiment wasn't good. I was set to go in '73, luckily the war was winding down. Country looks like it's thriving.
It's a very bustling country! It is a touchy subject and we try to be mindful of that when making our videos. We want to recognize the sacrifice many people made on both sides to fight for what they believed in. We are loving it here though. The people are friendly and there's lots to see and do!
My dad went to military school in Da Lat (equivalent of West Point) and trained as a Green Beret at Ft Bragg. I lost my dad due to Agent Orange exposure. I want to thank you for your service and sorry you lost your friends. As A&K mentioned, the Vietnamese are very friendly towards Americans and you should try to go if you ever get a chance.
@@AdventuresofAplusK my brother what is "usa imperialist and colonization believes"? Vietnam war wad a big mistake but here in latin america we know very well the northamerica imperialist policy for the wolrd. Is unacetaple. Long live to vietnam. Hope some days north american people can understand the amount of sufering that us foreign policy have mad and still do for the wolrd
Hi guys. Your video is awesome. It reminded me of my visit to Saigon in July last year. Too bad we only stayed 2 days there and we missed a lot of interesting things. Anyway Saigon street food is delicious. We'll be back for sure.
We were there for 4 days and thought that was a good amount of time to see most of the things to see. The food was awesome! Thanks and thanks for watching!
I’ve watched many of your vlogs about all the national parks in the US to the Dempster Highway in Canada. You’re always so fun to watch. I was so surprised when I saw that you’re in Asia and no less Vietnam, my motherland. I’m from Seattle but living in Florida now. I’ll be watching all of your VN series as I will also be there for a month in June. Happy travels!
I was so surprised to see you guys in my homeland that I had to click to watch the video right away even though I've been slacking a little and haven't seen your other videos before this one yet. Sài Gòn is just as beautiful as I remember it. Funny to see you guys sitting on those small chairs on the sidewalk lol Adam must be a GIANT around all the Vietnamese over there!
Of course you shouldn't feel anxious if you are with friends living there. We are from OZ and now planning out second trip after visiting Hanoi, HMC is our next visit and no anxiousness at all. Life is what you make of it.
I watched your guy's video to prepare myself for GNP. So, when I saw this pop up, I was very surprised lol. I just recently went to Vietnam and I am a Vietnamese-American fan from Texas. I appreciate all the knowledge and appreciation you show for Vietnam. Keep up the good work y'all! Tip: visit the god hand bridge in Ba Na Hills Dragon bridge in Da Nang The architecture of Hoi An
I love seeing you both so excited! Great video…so informative…thank you for sharing this wonderful part of the world with us! The food looked amazing and the sites were beautiful! Loved your dance moves Kathryn…you should have joined the street dancers 😂💃🏾. Adam, I don’t blame you for being reluctant in those tunnels…they were so narrow! Safe travels❣️
Ho Chi Minh City is beautiful! Very attractive city. Vibrant. The foods look good. I'm so happy for you both gettig to experience this amazing place. I liked the post office.
I’m Vietnamese American. I left my hometown for a better life. I’ve learned American culture and y’all traveling and learn Vietnamese culture and history. Win win. Btw, y’all make amazing trip ever
What a very different look at the city versus what we saw during the war period. The war museum sounds very interesting, throughout this video I noticed several war relics on display. This series of videos is going to be very interesting as some of us compare "then to now" with what we knew. Until next time... Travel safe.
It has been interesting seeing this country's perspective on a lot of things. We've learned a lot just being here, but also from the Ken Burns documentary. We had a great time in HCMC!
I went to some of those exact food places you guys went to a few years ago! If you're still there I'd also try the banh xeo. But honestly the Vietnamese food in the US is pretty good. I also watched some documentaries before I went. Everything from WW2 to the Vietnam War in our history textbooks has not been updated since the Cold War. It was fascinating to hear JFK thought we should be helping Ho Chi Minh get independence before he became president, how the north Vietnamese thought they were fighting for independence and not communism, and the US got involved because France wanted to hang on to its colony and threatened to leave NATO.
We tried banh xeo in Hoi An and loved it! Vietnamese food in the states is very good! It's very interesting to learn more about what really happened outside of the history books we were required to use in school!
I was stationed in Saigon in 1970-1971 when the tallest building was only 8 stories, so this was quite a shocker. I lived 2 blocks from the Presidential Palace with incoming rockets every night. Seeing the Palace and Notre Dame brought back lots of memories. There were a few things you could have shown, assuming they were still there, the former US Embassy just down the street and British Embassy next door. Also, Le Cercle Sportif, which is probably not in your budget zone. I could tell Ms. Perky was going to be sick after drinking Vietnamese "Tea," and sure enough she camped in the next day. Other than missing those things and the French restaurants, a decent job showing off the city, which frankly lacks in things to see.
Hey James, thank you for your service. There is always more we can show in every video we make. It doesn't appear that Le Cercle Sportif is open anymore, but we didn't know about it and it was interesting to read about so thanks for sharing that. But I'm glad we didn't have to blow our teeny tiny budget on it 😉😂. Also, we're not sure what made her sick, but we're pretty heavy coffee drinkers so I'm sure it wasn't the Vietnamese coffee...we've had plenty since and been just fine. We don't tend to visit many sit down restaurants, especially French ones, so we don't feel that we missed out on much there. Saigon is a wonderful city and we had a great time! Thanks for watching.
That crunch at 5:11 I heard it all the way from Australia, wow I cannot wait to come back to Vietnam and have such an array of delicious food, glad I found your RU-vid channel absolutely subscribed and can't wait to see your adventures around my motherland
You're such lovely couple. I'm appreciated that you take time to learn Vietnam's history. Can't wait for your next video in Vietnam. Hope you guys have fun time here.
I loved your vlog so much, it really inspired me and now I am binge watching all of your videos! I just posted my vlogs from Ho Chi Minh as well, it is such a magical city!! I can't wait to see your next videos!
Excited for this series! Since we lived in the North, we spent most of our year in Vietnam in North/Central Vietnam. We didn't even manage to get down to HCM, so it was great seeing you guys explore it. I'm glad you're doing it right- tiny chair and table street eats for the win! 😂 Ready to see what else you guys get up to!
We loved HCMC and it was a great starting point, but it has gotten better and better the more north we've gone. We're loving everything about Vietnam! Those tiny chairs and table are still funny to us!
I couldn't believe how small that entrance was, and then I realized that that was the enlarged version! Whoa! Very cool to learn about some of the history in this area. The food looks amazing as well!
It was a tight squeeze! It was very interesting learning about that area. We love to learn about all perspectives of major world events. Thanks and thanks for watching!
I absolutely loved watching this video. It is very detailed and well organized. Your commentary not only has so information based on research but also has so much positive energy. I am a Vietnamese but have lived most of my life in Virginia, USA. Your video really makes me want to go back. Thank you!
You should try to hit up Phuc Map. Also that women not paying attention then bending forward is not a good look for her. Also you should always take charcoal pills or this Ginger drink every day while in a third world country as sanitation isn't regulated.
I really love how you two make your adventure videos, the way you film all the breathtaking scenes of all destinations that you've come to, they're so good! Especially when you first come to my country, Vietnam, the way you talk about Ho Chi Minh City is so great, also about our leader, Ho Chi Minh, gives me the feeling that you give respect and true love to our country. I feel very lucky that I know your vlog, I find that not all foreign travel bloggers who can do as well as you. I really love your videos and I really support you continue making new travelling series and I really hope that your videos will be more widely known!
although being a local but watching the things under your lens and voice-over is very interesting and amazing about the place where I've been living for years. There are many places I've never visited even they are very close. Wish you having an amazing trip and experience in Asia
I am Vietnamese - Australian and I’m about to take my husband from Australia to visit Ho Chi Minh and your video is just really helpful. Thank you for really put in a lot of efforts in researching and understanding Vietnamese culture and giving us - a Vietnamese living far away from our country still feels like being home when watching your video. Thank you and appreciate your hard work.
Thanks for choosing my country as your first destination in Asia. I’m sure you guys have been having a wonderful time there with culture and food. Your videos are very informative and help me understand more of the history behind each place and thing! I love watching how foreigners view my country from their perspective! And one thing I’m so proud that my country food is great, as you and many visitors comment. Looking forward to your upcoming videos
So glad to see you guys enjoy my hometown even though I am living outside of Vietnam right now but everytime seeing people making video about my born & raised city. I’m touched. Hope you have time to explore the rest of Vietnam.
How fascinating. Everything is so different than what we are used to in the U.S. The architecture is amazing and that traffic! Wow! Thanks for a great video! ❤️👏
Love this video! The only small error I would like to correct is that Hochiminh City now only has 21 districts. Districts 2, 9 and Thủ Đức have merged to become Thủ Đức City. This city, obviously, is also part of Hochiminh City :)
The Reunification Museum looked like the former US Embassy in Saigon. I will never forget those images of people trying to get to the roof of the embassy for a evac flight to freedom. Nor will I forget those images of the helicopters being pushed off the aircraft carriers to make room for evacuees. But the most enduring images were the body count figures shown on the national nightly news. With all that being said, it’s great to see Saigon peaceful & prosperous.
Those are some wild scenes! We have seen some of that in Ken Burns documentary. We learned a lot from that documentary and it really helped us appreciate our travels here even more
The sugarcane juice you drank does contain kumquat juice (it's to cut the sweetness of the sugarcane). I hear the ones mixed with passion fruit are also amazing there. If you're into coffee, try coconut, peanut, salted, and egg coffees and let us know which ones you like. Also do food tours in all the cities as those will teach you how to eat the food properly, which many foreigners struggle with and then don't get as good an experience. The best food tours I've seen are from Hanoi (MomDuty, "Flora and Note", and "This Food Bangz" all had great food tours there), "Chase and Shelbs" had a great one in HCMC, and "Steph and Pete" had a great one in Hoi An (lots to do in Hoi An...you can do the Jack Tran Tours, which look fun).
Good to know about the juice! We’ve tried many of those coffee drinks already and they’re so so good! We’ll have tried them all before we leave for sure! We have a food tour in Hanoi lined up. We’re super excited!
I went to the War Museum in Hanoi and if your American which I am not prep yourself as some of the reality of the American War [ as it’s called in Vietnam] is quite shocking . American troops are referred to as either criminals or gangsters and that might be tough to take but to some degree it shows the determination of the North Vietnamese not to give up and the exhibit of a bicycle that they pushed down the trail with 400 lbs of equipment hanging off is stunning . However Vietnam is my #1 country to visit if anyone takes my advice .
I always like travel experience sharing videos. However, what I don’t like is mentioning things cheap or expensive based on personal comparisons. Any tourists from first world countries would find Vietnam way cheaper than what they spend on living. But it is not cheap for all since living expenses differs from countries to countries. $1 could be an amount an US person easily throws in beggar’s hat but for some countries $1 is a full meal for a regular person and he or she won’t find anything as cheap as US people are thinking. So, let’s not decide if it is cheap in general. It could be cheap for you and you should mention it like, “it was really cheap for us” 😊
Morning from the middle of England today. Brilliant start to your Vietnam adventures. The streets are crazy 🤪 Omg and the currency eh? Lots of notes of little value? We watched this one with my Mum who loved it guys. Stay safe and well..especially on the roads 😂 🏴🇻🇳🙏
I really love the way you introduce my HCM city to persons that not ever come. Though many places with such amazing views in NorthSide have been waiting to discover. Thanks for your video and hope all of you enjoy trip in VN onwards.
I've been there a few times! You guys missed one of my favourite attractions: riding on the back of a scooter in heavy rush hour scooter traffic. It's basically a dangerous theme park ride.
I've been following you guys in the U.S. and I cannot believe that you actually chose Vietnam as one of your vacation spots. Thank you!!! Hope you guys have a blast there.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video. I am Vietnamese who lives in Canada 🇨🇦. I haven’t come back to the country for a long time. From your video it brings back the memories. I miss the coffee there. I used to have it everyday. Enjoy your adventures and experiences. Stay safe.
Dang guys I really appreciate your videos so much. Not even halfway through and I had the thought, "their videos are so nice and I can't put my finger on why" and then it occurred to me: I love the information you give and the realness. For example, I don't think I've ever seen one super slowmo clip of Katharine twirling around in a wildly impractical dress for travel, wearing a wildly unpractical hat and shoes. A lot of travel content has become people trying to be models? And what's with the extendedddddd slowmo clips most people use? You guys use it very tastefully, integrate humor, wear comfortable walking shoes, visit interesting places and actually describe the food. To each their own of course, but you guys are my kind of people. Also I'm digging this series and that you are staying in one region for 6 weeks to experience it fully. In 6 wks you could circle the globe multiple times, but taking your time there gives your videos an even more special quality!!
Wow! That is a very kind comment! That means a lot to us! We're very excited for our Vietnam adventures and can't wait to share these videos! Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
I don't often comment on RU-vid and I have seen many video when people film destination when they travel. But you guys actually did your research and gave background and history to places that you went and eat and I think that is educational and awesome to watch!
Wait, are you from Seattle too? I'm a Vietnamese living in Seattle and going to VN soon. I'll stop by some places you've been to. Have fun, enjoy your stay and be safe!
