One step away from human activity lol, he is kinda right though, because I mean using your brain more actively and extensively is, atleast for many people, considered a non-human activity am i right?
Maybe I’m a little biased, but I hate when people talk all condescendingly about esports. Disliking it is one thing which I can understand, but not giving it the respect, and the players respect, that it deserves is what really annoys me
True even though you dislike something you at least have to give respect to it. Do you want to see people bash how useless Jimmey Kemmel's show is, wouldn't that hurt so dislike but respect it
I don't even want it to be considered sport but eSport is more than fine and I value eSport > sport. I like that word and I don't wanna change it into sport ever :)
I've been playing and following League for 8 years now, and I come back to this video every once in a while. Every single time I end up crying. Even if the game is not perfect, even if the community is is really toxic, this was the game that made e-sports huge. League of Legends built on the foundation of CS and StarCraft, and built up a cultural background for gaming. And maybe it will not last forever, but the games to come and the companies to come will have League as a starting point, just like League had StarCraft and CounterStrike. And we, who happen to live in the age where e-sports is truly blooming can tell our grandchildren the stories of the sport of our generation, the sport that defined us, just like football defined the 20th century. And my friends, who read this, we can be proud that we live in an age where gaming is getting acknowledged. We can be proud that we are gamers. And we can thank Riot for taking e-sports to where it is now. Thank you for your time.
Mainstream sports: "Esports aren't sports!" *finds out that esports generates over a billion in ad revenue and is growing* Mainstream sports: "Good news everyone! We are sponsoring our own esports teams!"
At least good guy Rick Fox supported esports, and defended it against criticism from the beginning, plus tried to understand why people enjoyed it so much, like his son :)
I started to play LoL 3 months ago. Watched complete tournament 2017 World series each game and love it. I had more fun, excitment, trill than watching football world cup. This great players inspired me to play more. Thanks, you are all aweosome!
I agree. I loved watching soccer but it can't compete with games like LoL nowadays. Skill levels and talents are much more refined due to the lack of physical muscle fatigue in esports, and the fact that anyone no matter what age can get into esports just by playing it.
well technically the one thing that only thrills a sports fan is the time when the players attempt to score, everything else is boring to watch... in LoL, even csing is fun to watch in fact you could learn from their style, their teamfighting, solo kills, outplays, map controls etc.
@@nickleh6515 It has the problem with definitions i think. In my language Norwegian we actually have two words, "idrett" and "sport", idrett is basically physical sports, while sports is a wider term just like the english version of it. So i think the confusion kinda boils down to lack of that distinction, where many people, especially older ones, use the physical sports definition of it, while in reality it's an umbrella term.
Same I love video games too bro. And I love esports. I think you can call it a sport... but to call them athletes? I think that's where I draw the line. The thing is poker tournaments were aired on ESPN as well as ultimate frisbee. I mean I barely consider baseball a sport too but that's because I'm a fan of football, MMA. I watch a little Rugby and I like it but I just don't understand it too much. However if we're going by official definition, it's a competition/measure of skill in an official platform. Esports/league fulfills that criteria AND is heavily marketable. It gives kids an outlet instead of them going out and doing stupid shit/getting into trouble or trying drugs. Like if I was a pro athlete, I'd be like "Look I'm not telling people to sit in front of a computer for 15 hours a day and then worship them for it. I'm just saying this industry gives kids an outlet and a feeling of connectivity. Why bash it? It's profitable, marketable, and it's a decent outlet for kids to enjoy rather than turning to drugs or underage drinking. The answer is simple. Because jobs in sports are threatened by the rising industry of esports. If ESPN focused more on Esports because it was more profitable, half of these people talking in this video lose their jobs and they're one of the more SECURED positions in the industry.
"If you don't break a sweat, it's not sport" chess billiards golf table football darts archery fishing cards en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports "Watching video games tournaments is not the same as watching a football tournament" - Why? How? It's literally exactly the same, only instead of 11v11 it's 5v5.
Exactly and I don't see them playing the sport themselves while they are sitting there stuffing their faces with cheese puffs so who are they to judge who likes what
I'm so confused actually. If LoL is not considered a sport, then why is chess considered a sport? They both require intelligence and critical thinking but stamina is not needed. I don't get it
chad deinger they shouldnt be. Chess, checkers, etc are one category. League dota 2 csgo are another. Soccer and basketball are another. Stop with the combining😂
"This isnt a sport! You dont sweat!" Alright heres some other fine examples of "Sports" then: Bobsledding Nascar Racing Horse Racing Curling Archery Shooting Motor Boating Chess Billiards Golf Fishing Poker (Cards in general) Sailing I'm sure this list can go on further.
U wanna know why? Its because all the above helps a human health to some point ,trains a certain part of human body, and have a large toll on human mentality. Its a dedication of time, effort and fun to the activity for urself to get good at it.Its a process of having to endure hundreds of hours of pain and having to tell urself every morning: I HAVE TO DO IT no matter how exhausted you are. And until Esports"athletes" show us that, we will never acknowledge it as a sport. And also, sports are supposed to benefit ur health if u think about what most doctors say about sports
Has nothing to do with the "older generation". Has everything to do with nerds who never made a sports team in high school refusing to accept they they are not and never will be athletes
0:42 that guy said that esports wasn’t a real sport because in the game there are limitations on what you can do and how well you can do so using his logic football isn’t a real sport because physics is a thing and players can’t jump infinitely high and run infinitely fast
Typical even that there are rules in every sport same with video games I mean if you could do anything I don’t think it would be fun anymore if it would be like that everyone would be challenger because everyone one would be able to do something else better than someone else
Esports is the next football. It will take over on major networks and we'll have our spot on major television channels. Take my word for it. This will happen
honestly, i dont give a fuck about television. lets just stick to our only streaming services (YAY! twitch chat!) and keep stealing live arenas from all over the world for our video game
Oh hey look a bunch of middle aged people that have never even looked at a video game in their lives, surely they must be very knowledgeable about Esports!
I was having a bad morning until i watched this and made me realize how much joy league has brought to my life since i started playing back in 2012. I've met so many people through league of legends in and out of game, after high school when all my friends drifted apart, the one's whom i am still close with have remained so because of the time we share playing league. Yea I may rage, get tilted (and a little toxic) but what keeps me playing after all these years and all the changes to the game is my love for it. I remember watching the 2016 spring finals with my gf at the time and all my dad could do was bash it, he couldn't see what I could and can, i don't see non athletes or athletes playing a video game, I see 10 people doing something they love to do, something that people all over the world have come to love, including me. So even though league of legends is a toxic unbalanced piece of shit, its my toxic and unbalanced piece of shit. Thank you Riot for making our game.
I mean, yeah it's not sport, it is esport, this guy is wrong as is definitely despising it in the sense that it has nothing to do with sport, but it would also be wrong to say it is sport, because it s not. It is esport, that's it.
People hate change because there view of the world is changing and those old fucks are scared of change. There living in a world in there closed minds. We gamers are just 1 kind of people no differences just 1 mind 1 goal. If your white black yellow red or whatever color you have it don`t matter. You are a gamer.
It's good for it to be acknowledged as a sport so people can have a legally accepted profession, scholarships etc. And so it's easier for teams to get sponsors if it's formally a sport, to make leagues and championships, and to open the market to gamers in general.
I hate that condescending tone people have towards Esports, you haven't looked at the blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice these Esports players have given. You have to give respect to these players who use their brain more actively than these ignorant buffoons
It is always people who don't understand esports that criticize it to no end. Play a game, go through the stages of trying to get better at it and learning more about it, then after you have struggled go watch a professional game. Then you can go on a news network and give your opinion about esports. Stop giving your opinion from a place of ignorance.
It is the Best Video. Yes. And let anyone who opose us know, that we are never alone. There's MILIONS of people with the same passion. With the same drive.
I play CSGO but I keep coming back once in a while to see this, and when I do it breaks my heart to see that esports doesn't get the respect that it deserves...... Its not just a game.
What is astonishing is the fact that those people don't even know what's the real meaning of Sport in general. Sport is meant to make people meet, play, and share moments together, it's primarly focused on the feelings and the emotions that you feel when being part of a community of people that want to have fun, to share joy and excitement ! It's all meant to make people socialise !!! It's not about sweating, it's not about putting tremendous efforts, it's all about having fun, joy, sharing and socialising !
it's about putting tremendous efforts as well xd And if you didn't sweat playing a 50+ minute intense ranked game I don't know what does. xD Takes alot of mental sweat tho. :D (I'm saying this for the people that think that this game requires like no effort or sweat, that's just wrong.)
That's pretty silly, actually. Realistically speaking, sports is about competing against others in a contest of skill with the aim of being the best and seizing victory. So, y'know, LoL is a sport.
After watching this video 1- yes league of legends is a sport idc about all the haters 2- open up the game 3-play a ranked game 4- end up feeding and losing so hard 5- fk it, this shi*t can't be a sport
hate? stupid kids playing lol ... disagreeing is hate? i love lol, but people dont hate a pc game, too much of a waste of energy hating a pc game (sry my english)
These videos always bring tears to my eyes. What the others see, is a bunch of young adults playing games instead of going outside and making friends at the local sport club. The truth is that these players made a gamble with their own life for something that was not populare then. They trained every single day to show to the world that esport is demanding and deserves to be on the stage. They used their passion as strength, and no one can take it from them. Not a stupid fake smiling presenter, nor a gatekeeping sport caster. It rings a bell with me, because my father always compared me to his best friend's son who is a sport addict. I was not like him, so that wasn't ok. Now thanks to these kind of videos, my father asks me what I play, and it is absolutely awesome. You guys are the reason why I love video games, and always will. Thank you.
The fact that league as our favorite game has taken this step to give the gaming community as a whole, the recognition they deserve at long last.. I'd say thats definitely a tear jerkingly proud moment, especially if youve struggled to establish your identity as a gamer.
I want to become a pro player and get a team and play in tournaments and stuff like that, of course getting into LCS is my big dream and then of course winning worlds xD Step by step of course I believe it takes alot of effort, I just like how less people will look down upon us for playing our sport. It's a sport just intense as basketball but that's always hard to explain.
Man league has changed my life around, it really shows me how to deal with tough situations such as tilt, and how to prosper from win streaks. Honestly, it also has helped me cope with stresses that I receive from my family and school. It is crazy what a game can do I really hope I can impact the world greatly.
The word athlete is an ancient Greek word that means "one who competes for a prize" and was related to two other Greek words, "athlos" meaning "contest" and "athlon" meaning "prize." So these pro players are actually athletes.Any other definition of "athlete" is fabricated and wrong.
Huge respect for those who speak up for this Especially Rick Fox. Keep doing what you do man, I don't give a flying fuck if it's because you love business or what, but what you're doing right now, I believe, is a great thing.
He does it because his son chose to chase his dream of becoming a pro in gaming. At first he didnt know how to handle the situation but eventually supported his son in achieving this dream. After realizing the debate over it Rick himself decided to aid the fight for it to be considered a sport and to make these monkeys see that it is more than they can make out of it with their closed minded ideologies. Granted they were from another generation and change is hard to comprehend sometimes but eventually it will be known even more globally and respected as a professional sport. Hell even the US government grants pro's Travel Visa's. Look it all up if you're interested in knowing more, its an inspiring story and a fight that gamers shouldn't be ashamed of ever.
Every community is hyper toxic. League is simply played by so many people that you have a much higher chance of meeting those toxic people there than if you just played basketball with some random kids from the neighbourhood.
Why the fuck does it matter what you call it?! It's a game and, whether you want it or not, it's actually super popular, competitive and insanely hard to master.
I feel like people don't respect gaming as a sport because it's something new to them (referring to the older people). A generation later I think gaming will be normal on sports channels
100% agreed. The fucking baby boomers trying to keep everything the way they had it and can’t accept that the millennials are moving away from that and starting something they are passionate about.
I respect gaming, but I cant call it a sport. It's and eSport. I see it as more of a classification of a type of video game rather than a type of sport.
Guys time changes, but most old people will never like most of the changes, and maybe one day we'll be just like them. Think about football or any other sports, do you think that anybody used to think it could be a "work" to be a football player? Beeing paid waaay over the average person? No.. Same with e-sports right now. Sports used to be games, just like video-games, most people wouldn't take you seriously now saying your dream is to become a proplayer, just like it used to happen when kids wanted to become professional football players (sorry if I'm mainly saying football, but that's the best thing I can relate to, it works for any other sport tho). Life changes, that's it.
Mika Nils Albrecht yes because scoring an imaginary point in traditional sport is way better than scoring a point in a video game. If you have played a video game, you will understand that it fits into the category of "sport" much like Chess and Poker do (and these are real sports). Besides, the American Government has already acknowledged it is a sport of classifying Professional players as athletes. So it is funny how you said sitting in front of a computer "like a complete idiot" when these athletes have more of a brain than most traditional athletes.
This actually makes me cry i am playing in the 2. German Division and watching this is making me very emotional i love you all this will be great one day.
Seriously? It's just a video game? Can't break a sweat? So you'll never call this a sport? So CHESS is not a sport because it won't break a sweat do you? Why you called it "Just a video game" if they called it a competition? It has sportmanship! It has Strategy It's ESPORT! Sometimes there's always stupid critics without knowing what they judge.... NOT JUST A SPORT OUR SPORT
Hell, we can do better than that: if those know-nothing critics try to counter that they don't consider chess a sport either, then... so if you don't sweat it's not a sport? OK then, Olympic shooting and archery. You'd probably sweat MORE playing LoL than you would doing those! BOOM, you lose!
I've been dreaming of becoming a professional esports player for years, but life keeps getting in the way. You can't even imagine how much I cried watching this...
I play league too but i cannot stop worrying about these kids... they are trading real life for something virtual that in the end doesn´t give back anything. Riot´s brainwashes kids very effectively with these amazing and emotional videos. I always played and will always play games, i´m addicted to league and enjoy these videos... But get real with your comments! Don´t cry over a game when there´s so much stuff going on in this world. Never trade an opportunity to be with ur friends with few games of lol. Play lol, yes, enjoy, but lol is not a replacement for the things that actually contribute to happiness and really are rewarding. This game is great in many ways, but understand that it´s a business: everything that seems great in this game, if u dig deep enough, you´ll find business interests. So live your life, play league, enjoy lcs, but dont make irrational comments driven by marketing emotional videos. Cherish friends and family above games pls. And you still can play league and enjoy, but dont lose track of reality pls.
Carlos While I agree to some of your statements at your comment but I'm gonna disagree on some especially the part where you said, "in the end doesn't give back anything". If you really play this game, you will understand the pure joy, satisfaction, and every other synonyms of happiness when you won a very close game, where you clutch a 1v1, being promoted to a higher elo through weeks or even months of perseverance. Yes, this may be underwhelming, but if you saw your passion for this game and shared it with your friends, the amount of happiness and overall satisfaction you'll get as you and your friends became stronger and stronger and built a team of your own from scratch is multiplied tenfold. And when you look at the bigger picture, you can relate to this with the community of League of Legends, not your typical toxic community but the community you can and will meet on meet-ups, tournaments, conventions and etc. These people share the same passion as you are and your friends that makes you just somehow happy to be a part of it.
I've been playing in the league for 6 years. it happened that I was leaving because it annoyed me but I always came back now as I look at these 6 years I can say that it was worth it
Currently it's not incredibly balance but as BlitzYT said if we give them time to tweak the changes they recently made it will go back to its normal state. Usually the game is pretty balanced with a few things being out of meta and some being more picked, people just bitch too much about the game generally.
Games aren't just a GAME. It became my world OUR WORLD when we felt like we didn't belonged to the outside world. Met different people, made so many memories that cannot be replaced. To those who wants to become the next champions.... BELIEVE. Nothing nor no one can stop you from claiming the Top.
Leauge is something people have a passion for. Why do people argue for the fact that it's not a sport? It brings joy and love to people because they are doing what they never thought they could do. Wrather it is a sport or not, it involves just as much skill and dedication as a sport would
WerZocktGames why don't you recognise players like Faker as athletes? They train as much as their traditional sports counterparts, if not more than some, and they constantly play under the highest pressure on the biggest stages. I'm not sure why being a video game is enough to determine whether or not something is a sport, it's the activities surrounding the game that define it as a sport: the tournaments, the players, the coaches, the analysts, the journalists, the broadcasters, the share holders, the advertisers, and just as importantly - us - the fans.
WerZocktGames like everything in history it changes, sports have been around for a really long time, so has humans, and u know y we are live now, we change, your statement will change at one point of time, if u don't change it then your kids will. And when that happens it is going go be a change in history from the old to the new. Like everything in life it moves on, never stopping, just moving.
Showed this to my girlfriend trying to explain the legitimacy of League, she watched the whole thing, turned to me and said: "It's still pretty lame though" fuck guess we keep trying lads
Whenever im out of the loop and bored but not in the right mood for gaming, I come and watch thus video. There hasnt been a single time ive watched this and not gotten goosebumps. Esports is such a huge community but esspecially huge with league. Its competative. Most pros are physically fit. You sweat. Youve got a huge community of people talking argueing maming friends and having a whole lot of a good time with one another. This is a sport. Its our sport
OK it was a 4 drake elder dragon when Samsung was behind which ultimately led them to defend against SKT's push and later on win the game, taking the series to a 5th game at the Worlds Finals 2016, it wasn't the flashiest of steals but it was probably the most crucial smite steal in Competitive LoL history.
Well seriously, for those who say Esport is not a thing then they havent play any video games with their friends yet. Playing Leage with the Buddies is the best feeling ever
Hunter Grimm and it feels better than when you play quote on quote "real sports" with your buddies. I mean like what would you rather do: -kick a ball Or -play a fun game where you kill rats with blowdarts, destroy towers with magic, make new friends and rivals online, and to top it all of it constantly gets updated (aka new shit gets added). Am i right? Like what is the last time they added something new and gamechanging to lets say football... oh yeah never. LoL rules fam! :D
Except the feeling all the professional gamer athletes tried really hard to get where they stand without cheating, but by trying and improving!! If that is not sports i do not know what it is!!
I was feeling quite off when i played league today, feeling that i must do things that r productive instead of playing league and watching this video reminded me that i am a part of the league community that us player r proud of. Gave me a reason to why i played this game in the first place
dude they just made the game xD what made it e-sports are the fans and gamers(well there are people who like to watch more then playin so i said fans too)
Thank you. Just thank you. Thank you for all of this. Maybe not for the toxic-being communitiy. But it's not your fault. You can't do more than banning the most toxic players. At the end. Thank you. Thank you Riot. Thank you rito
I play basketball, basketball, and football, yet i don't watch sports on tv or anything like what many others do. I watch esports instead of watching boring baseball, basketball, or football.
Not to mention Sportscasters have gotten extremely boring and mundane. I do find ESports to be a bit more entertaining to watch,. My thoughts are that its like this because there is still so much passion in the sport. Tradition sports like football and basketball seem pretty washed up lately, as in most of the Athletes only do it for money instead of the competition. (Baseball is excluded in this cause you still see tons of passion in the athletes, as far as what Ive seen so far... But Baseball is fucking boring to watch regardless...)
I’m here to support all leaguers and the game as a whole, we grew from start to finish guy! Be proud of how far we’ve all came man. This video gives me the greatest feels cause we are now part of the sports world and we’ll finally get the recognition!
XDDDDDD you do know that in chess the player that makes the first move (white side )always has an advantage ? and what the hell does that have to do with it being a sport because its "balanced" wat the fuck are you smoking btw
And who are you to decide that because there are many factors on a game that can change the outcome of it makes it unbalanced and so it cant be a sport ? look at football. look at SNOOKER snooker is all about rng Poker.. its about outreading your oponent and toon of rng football is about the quality of players, teams and player positioning. LoL is about the team comunication, strategies and countering champion picks. Lol is a balanced game and its easy to see that . And Its even easier to prove that . red side of the map has a 51% win rate over countless millions of games easy to see that if the game wasant balanced that number would be changing drasticly and it would never be close to 51% because its around 50% means every champion has around 50% win rate meaning since the sides of the map dosent interfier with which champions play on which side you can have a low winrate champion in the team if you have another with a high winrate it will balance and add up to 50% if you pick the right ones, this is retarded thinking but im hoping maybe you get it this way. Your arguments are idiotic at best. and to me it just seems a personal vendetta directed to champions that you cant play against because they are "unbalanced". But thats ok math was made for mathmaticians not everyone can understant it that easily. Lol is a far more complicated game then chess and champion pick in competitive play are a tiny fraction of whats goin to decide the outcome of a game. But if champion select is compared to chess then Picking katarina into malhzaahr or a team full of crowd control is like removing of your 3 soldiers to put you at a disadvantage in your game of chess But then if you pick morgana you put those 3 pieces back on the board because those 2 champions have a high winrate when played togheder .But again it matters little because its all up to the players comunication and skill to actualy pull it off duringthe actual game.
deathmaiden66612 how about the picks and bans of champs.. and changing team side/color? to make the unbalance profitable for both teams? its not best of 1 game
League IS a perfectly balanced sport. Some champions are stronger than others? That's what champ select is for. Red and Blue side have different win ratios? Well teams may choose which side to take. First pick? Chess has first turn.
Esports doesn't need to be a sport to be cool. It's something new and different, and that's what makes it cool. They should embrace that. Don't know why we are so obsessed with it.
For me the most legend moments was that when Albus Nox Luna getting out if groups in 2016 as a underdog and when Ambition and Samsung Galaxy hoist the Summoners Cup 2017
