a new print of BUS is comming this fall. I have it pre-orderd from my FLGS already. I played it at a local boardgame weekend and fell in love. so glad to soon have it.
I can honestly say there is only 1 grail game for me. And at this point I can take it or leave it. So I'm doing good. I've got dozens of good games I'm working at learning to play.
Thanks for the video! To be fair, I don't really have a grail game I'm strongly seeking. Will say my top 3 would be the OG Castles of Burgundy, Deep Space D-6, and Mino Dice (aka Skull King: The Dice Game). Likely my biggest former-grail game when I first joined the hobby (~10 years ago) was To Court the King. At that time, its reimplementation Favor of the Pharaoh was available for pre-order, which I pounced on immediately then. A few years later, I got To Court The King through a trade at a local convention. :)
I remember in the early days when you were asked about Power Grid "nope never it's too ugly." Now you have to play it due to your love of Friedman Friese. My #2 game by the way.
TMNT: Change is Constant is my all-time #1 game. And I say this as a primarily mid to heavy weight euro-gamer. I backed the All the Loot Kickstarter a few years ago because TMNT is one my favourite fandoms and this game specifically is based off one of my favourite versions, the IDW Comics. The game is great. Follows the comics very closely, has excellent art and minis, and is genuinely well-designed with a pretty unique dice sharing mechanism. There are also a bunch of scenarios as well dozens of playable characters to add to replayability. It's the ultimate TMNT game. I hope you can find it at a reasonable price! The other companion game is City Fall and adds more characters as well continuing the storyline. It's equally great. Grab both (as well as the KS goodies) if you ever have the chance!
I would highly recommend The Great Zimbabwe from Splotter. Its definitely the easiest to teach new people, and you can finish a game within a reasonable time. Also it's super unique and you use cows as currency. Cows!
we just participated in a math trade at The Board Room Game Cafe a couple of weeks ago and 504 was in the trade and did not go. I have the person's BGG name if you wanna send them a geek mail message since they are in Halifax :)
KDM is a whole lifestyle game. I have almost everything for it and it's amazing. But it really is a game you need to invest a stupid amount of time into to get the most out of it. Fair warning though you have to build the minis yourself, that's something i love but many people don't like it.
My grail list is always in flux, but currently I am on the lookout for Familienband, which is a genealogy game that has you matching up marriages in a family tree based on quirky physical features like big noses or Cauliflower ears. The Bloody Inn, which I passed on several times.... but you know how it is now that I can't get it. World Without End, the only one in the Ken Follet series designed by Michael Rienick. However, I did recently find a few that had been on my list for quite a while: Carcassonne The City, Trambahn and Sun Tzu. The last two just sitting on a shelf at a remote game store still in shrink and original price. Score!!
There are so many games that do not come to my country or shipping just make them incredibly expensive so I felt so identified with Jamie in the last one 🤣 Forbidden Stars it tricky for me. I love the concept and mechanisms so I know I would love to play it but... having a WH40k game of that style with only 4 factions would feel incomplete to me. What we really need is a Root style WH40k game that just throws expansions of different factions and space marine chapters to us 🤣
The creator of Forbidden Stars is working on a spiritual sequel. But not set in the WH40k universe (the whole reason FS is out of print, is because the creator of Warhammer pulled the plug).
@@pronumeral1446 really? That's great I was not aware of that. I know Games Workshop is not collaborating any more with FF which is too bad, many great titles came out on those years 🤷🏻♂️ but if we are getting a spiritual successor, I'm in 🙌🙌🙌
Rumble Nation and Nana are both high on the wishlist and impossible to find. Is Trio available? Yes, but do I want the animal art? Also yes. Will I go to Japan just to buy that version cheaply instead of a fairly reasonable import fee? Also yes. Might have to be the solution to Jamie buying the Japanese games - just go to the games!
Should've posted this before Gen Con, I have a spare new in shrink copy of Noxford that I can't get rid of. You can have it. Let me know if you still need it come PAXU and I'll bring it with me.
Good luck on finding these games. My grail game are the expansions for Seasons and then a Kickstarter Version of Blood on the Clocktower. I really really want all of the released characters.. retail just doesn't cut it for me here 😅
Axis and Allies Anniversary Edition is one I keep an eye out for. One of the first hobby board games I played in the mid 90s. Should have picked it up in 08 when it came out. Homas Tour is another big one. I enjoy Um Reifenbreite a lot, and I am confident it is better than the original edition of Homas Tour, but the collector in me wants the original edition as well. Not to mention that the history of Homas Tour having most of the copies being lost in a warehouse fire in the late 70s has added to want of acquiring it one day.
You should definitely watch the old Cary Grant comedy Arsenic and Old Lace. It looks like the arsenic game was inspired by it. It’s hilarious. All about a sweet couple of old ladies who kill single gentlemen they think are lonely.
Our friend recently bought KDM and it's a good game. Pretty difficult, but the first fight of the game seems harder than subsequent ones. We've only fought the lion so far, but we're picking up where we've left off in a couple weeks. The rule book/story book is beautiful and well put together.
My recent grail acquisitions are Fallen Land 2nd Edition, Shadow Hunters, StarCraft and of course I had to hunt down Dice Town after you guys reminded me it existed 😅🙌🏆
Seize the Bean was one I was looking for. I read on bgg forums that they were possibly going to have a reprint campaign, but nothing else since then so not sure :(
If you can hunt down a copy of the 20th anniversary version of Bus by Capstone, it has the original version in one side and the new look on the other 🤓 Fresh fish is a big one for me and is mentioned constantly on the Gamebrain podcast (highly recommended podcast) Mine is Discworld by Martin Wallace and The Plum Island Horror, but both are so expensive!
Also from someone who has the Splotter & Capstone copies of Bus, I love my 99’ Splotter copy but it’s purely a collectors piece and I’d never table it. I highly recommend the Capstone Deluxe edition or the upcoming retail reprint, as they are just more intuitive. I did a whole video comparing the two if you want to check it out.
I love Seize the Bean! Took me a while to find one in my budget and I so enjoy it. Especially because I can play it solo. On the hunt for Mechs vs. Minions now.
I always say that if I die of natural causes, Kathy (my wife), did it due to her obsession with all things murder mystery. Tea, scones, and arsenic sounds right up her alley!
I got Tea, Scones and Arsenic on Kickstarter... Still haven't played it. 😅 It had only 451 backers so probably not that common. Not sure if it got the retail at all.
504 seems more like 4 ok games and 500 not good games. Watched the DT review for Zoo ball, looks fun, very playable with just a table and some discs, no game required lol.
I also live in Canada (London Ontario) and I have a mint copy of Forbidden Stars. All I want is a copy of Arcs. If you are interested in this trade just let me know.
