The Destroyer is a series of paperback novels about a U.S. government operative named Remo Williams, originally by Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir. The first novel was published in 1971, although the manuscript was completed on June 25, 1963. Over 150 novels have been published. The main characters were adapted to film in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins (1985). ...the more you know...

This video really brings back memories of watching REMO WILLIAMS with my family when I was a kid and thinking it was a lot of fun. My mom was a huge movie fan and we would talk about movies all the time. She loved Christine and the original The Fog from 1980. She passed away this week. I am so going to miss her comforting voice and talking to her about a movie she just saw on TV. I want to thank you Jason, Erin and the entire crew for lifting my spirits and taking my mind off my grief, if just for a little while. Being a part of the SBIG community and laughing my ass off at one of your videos reminds me that the world is not such a lonely place. Again, I thank you.

When I was age 5, this was one of my favorite films and Remo Williams was my ideal action hero. To be a complete human weapon facing all kinds of threats, even bare handed. The late Fred Ward with most of his own stunts, played the part pretty well. Joel Gray as Chiun (Golden-Globe nominated performance) was hilarious. Also the movie was an Oscar nominee for Best Make-up. Loved the story with it's action, humor and all the cheesy-ness. The Statue of Liberty sequence; part of the original movie poster, was what I was excited to see. The original score by Craig Safan is good and it's main hero theme is still exciting to me. The song,"What If (Remo's Theme)" by Tommy Shaw is very underrated, but decent. A tv series was planned and a pilot was made called "The Prophecy" (1988) on ABC. They kept the main theme/score, Remo & Chiun were recasted and I thought it was fun to watch. Dick Clark was executive producer of the movie and the tv pilot. Even in some recent years, they talked about revamping Remo Williams. Shane Black was interested at one point. But it looks like a newer tv series is in the works, either inspired by the movie or closer to the original 'Destroyer' novels.

Remo Williams is based on The Destroyer pulp paperback series, featuring the character Remo Williams. It fared poorly in theaters and received mixed reviews from critics, although it did earn Joel Grey a Golden Globe nomination. The film and a Remo Williams television pilot both credited Dick Clark as executive producer. Hot take before watch: This is one of the greatest B-movies ever made. It does not fit the philosophy of So Bad because all of the production and acting choices were top of the industry at the time. The storyline is the epitome of '80s action films. The "problematic cultural issues" of the film were 100% mainstream at the time. The stunt work is so damn good it should have been awarded and recognized. We have the iconic diabetes spokesman Wilfred Brimley showing how a pasty old man could play characters that were somehow menacing. Any kid that watched Saturday afternoon local station Kung Fu Theater absolutely lost their minds watching this. This movie hits you on a deep level like Star Wars if you are a genre fan. I sure hope it gets the thumbs up from the crew.
