OUR HIT PARADE - best of the 90s - Kathleen Hanna - Kenny Mellman - Carmine Covelli - Mike Jackson and Adam Horovitz cover Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit + Rebel Girl - 12-15-2010 at Joes Pub in NYC
@@viridimagoria1778 better than nirvana in my honest opinion. I love nirvana but can’t listen to them play this song anymore. She kills it and the instruments do a great job of carrying the same beat in a soft tone.
I was a teenager in the 90s, and it was amazing. I had lots of fun. BUT, I always said "I wish I was a teenager in the 80s" Because I was really into Adam Ant and The Cure. LOL
@@cheriremily9360 I am quite aware The Cure was around in the 90s, and 2000s, etc. I am saying I wish I could have seen them perform in the 80s. Especially when Pornography was first released.
I was a teenager in the 80s and had a lot of fun, especially the first half of the decade. But I wished I could have been a teenager in the 60s. The Beatles, Summer of Love, the clothes. We thought the hair bands were ridiculous even back then and those fussy, frilly clothes and frizzy hair! Blech! I guess everyone longs for what they can’t have.
Ya listening to her talk about a friend on a night that ended up changing music then sing it back for him made me a little emotional as well! Amazing to hear her talk about that night
she is the only one in the world who has extreme permision to sing this song! And she should! I cant beleive thats where "smells like teen spirit" came from :D I am in a great mood today and this made it better :D
I love this so much. This is the first I had ever heard of Kathleen Hanna inspiring Smells Like Teen Spirit. Such a cool story. See, us feminists can have a sense of humor, lol.
Alissa Nicole Feminists are normal humans fighting for equality. It doesn't retrieve our humor or personality if you're not funny dont include all the feminists in it
I been a fan of Nirvana since I was 15, I'm 36 now. This is the first time I've ever heard this story. Love the origin of such a well known Nirvana song. I love both of these bands.
She's a masterpiece there's never a time I don't listen to this without having my head blown off, I admire the fact that you are lifted up by it which part of the world are you watching from
She never fails to make me smile. I fucking love this woman. Changed my life when I was a 14yo girl. Strongest person I have ever see. A goddamn legend. It also reminded me of the moment in “the punk singer” when she said she went to a writing workshop and was told people don’t go to see spoken word. They do now. 👏🏼👏🏼
zilchit98 it’s cause they were all females singing a male voice songs and they didn’t bother changing the key for some reason I don’t know why. Here Kathy changed the key to fit her voice hence it sounds better.
It’s incredible to listen to her talk about that night she wrote Kurt smells like teen spirit….. I’m a HUGE Kurt/nirvana fan and remember the day he died very well! But to listen to people talk about him that were friends outside of the band is truely amazing and turns him back into a real person! That’s what I’m interested in more than anything…. Music history is by far what I live for…. I love it and hear about hurt as a person instead of an icon is beautiful! To hear the back story of something that changed music and a generation is incredible and to hear it straight from Kathleen who was there and wrote the saying is amazing! I miss Kurt and nirvana…. To me this world needed more Kurt! 🤘🤘 I hope he’s at peace where ever he is but I definitely miss what could have been! 🎸🎤
A little neat story that I wish came to be: One day, after my mom got her ultrasound, this business man approached her and offered to have the ultrasound picture as the cover to a sort of prequel to nevermind. (The ultrasound was of me holding up devil horns). My mom refused because she didn't want something so personal to be out there like that and she also didn't know if the guy was legit. The alleged prequel would've consisted of unreleased songs. It would've been cool if I was the cover to a Nirvana album though
aw man! i can't believe how long ago this was. this makes me so nostalgic! nirvana was my first favorite band. my late middle school/early high school friends and i covered our walls with nirvana pictures cut outta circus magazine. we always wished we could've seen them play. too bad we were like 10 or 11 when kurt cobain died.
For all of those who know what the Riot Grrrl movement is and/or love Hanna CNN did a great interview with her called The original riot grrrl on Katy Perry, '90s revival this is a great interview!!
She is amazing, going out with the beastie boy ( best GROUP EVER). I was saying to my good friend who is dead now (who was obsessed with nirvana, who I love as well) and how Kurt was a feminist and Kathleen was one of his best friends. I seriously, le tigre, bikini kill, Julie ruin is just outstanding, her energy is incredible, its a shame she got ill but she got better (the ones who get enlightened, get ill) x.
