2 requests if possible: Post plans of your diy toilet and your recipe for your spray with essential oils. I'm so excited...I'm going to build 3 for my property.
It seems insane to me that there are compost commodes for 1500 bucks, and they're just fancy shells with a bucket and a jug inside. Your interpretation is great.
Holy crap! 😂 This is BY FAR the best homemade composting toilet I've ever seen! There are a lot of people in the Skoolie & Tiny Home communities that could really benefit from your video!!!
I've been trying to figure out why my composting toilet starting having a slight smell out of no where now I understand!!! I'm so glad I found this video
You mentioned you desinged your toilet after the C-Head toilet and I was wondering if you made a video of how you built it and a parts list. If I didn't know any better I would swear that was a C-Head it's that well built. Thanks!.
Good idea. Everyone should have one of these in their home or apartment in case of drain or water problems. Composted waste can be disposed of anywhere. Out with the trash. In a dumpster. Buried out in nature. ( not near a water source ).
Yeah. I’m planning a van build. I knew right away that I did not want a black water tank. And knew I wanted the pee to go into my gray water tank. But could not figure what I was going to do because sometimes you gotta go poo at a random time. I was thinking paper bags. I did not like natures head either. And I almost thought cinderating toilet. But I do not trust Fire. Then I found Separett... like composting except in a bag. No need to add any filler etc. Just poo and pee and go. No crank nothing. It dries out the poo with a fan. Also each time you get up, the bucket is kept covered, with the fan constantly going with the air being drawn outside. So. I just recently found this. So I am happy with the solution I found. It just needs electricity. And bags for the bucket. I will have the pee go to a gray water tank with an automatic release for when I am driving. I can’t wait to experience it.
I don't understand why motorhomes don't have composting toilets. If you don't have a black tank, you can make your fresh water tank twice as large. Wouldn't that be nice?? Plus, it seems that emptying a compost toilet, is less objectionable than emptying a black water tank. Isn't that right?
This is exactly what I have been looking for! I've ordered a urine diverter from the UK but had been trying to figure out how to stir the pot so to speak 😊. TY!
That was awesome! Awesome toilet build. I am so impressed. You have saved me nearly a thousand dollars. I would only add some kind of fan for ventilation exiting the vehicle.
Here is the concrete mixer they used: Lowes Item # 3830878 | Model # 15-187 Bon Tool 24-in. Adjustable Position Triple Fan Drill Mixer with 5-in. Blade and 3/8-in. Hex Shaft
I was seriously considering getting the C-Head Toilet in a couple days. I’m SO grateful that I came across your video because it will save me about a thousand dollars! Thank you! Thank you!!!
They only cost about $600. Nature's Head, Air Head, and a few of the others are closer to or over $1,000. But I'm going to build mine for less than $100, so I'm really glad I found this video. And I have a few other mods I'm going to make that will make it even better. I might publish the plans. But I don't want to mess with anyone's patents.
Another good video on a home made toilet much better than the 1000 dollar comercial made toilets for sale that are really just the same it's amazing what you can find on u tube how to make your own toilet who would ever dream of that good job I will be making my own toilet soon. Thanks
By far the BEST vid on a diy comp. toilet I've seen yet. THANK YOU! Stoked and will build mine the same with the addition of a little 12v fan since it's going in my house :) Woo hoo! You guys are great. Love the channel. *subscribed*
Thanks for sharing, especially the churning mechanism.. I was stuck on how to make that, great home made compost toilet with all the gadgets like the real deals..
Thank you for sharing your DIY C-Head Composting Toilet with us. We looking into building one soon for our RV. It will be so much better than using the black tank.
Love love love the toilet. I am obsessed currently with making the perfect (for my tush) compost potty for my van. Yall are fun and I am now going back to watch even more. Blessings Sherry
Nice build. I plan to make my own composting toilet (paying $1000 for natures head or $500 for a c head seems ridiculous). Plus making your own you will know how to fix it better if something goes wrong with it
This is exactly what I've been wanting to build! Would love more pictures! I heard you say that you painted and rubberized it... Is the structure just plywood?
The only change I would make is to put an outside door or hatch, so that you can empty the bucket and jug from the outside of the RV, and not have to track it through the living area. I have not seen that done, yet. But, I like the idea.
I Purchased a Nature’s Head because I didn’t feel like I could make my own. I’m sure that I could have. I bet you didn’t pay over $1000 for yours. smart move on your part. Keep the videos coming!
That poop hole is small. What happens when you have the montezumas revenge. I got a bucket with a snap on seat. Funnel with a juice jug. Great for my van. Store it under my bed
Found this video via your comment on Snow & Curt's channel. This is a great DIY alternative to the $850 C-Head he's got. Thank you ever so much for that! 👍🏼😉 Question. I noticed you don't have an air vent. Isn't that essential to dry the poop and prevent odors?
Do you guys have plans or a video of the build that you can share? One major difference that I see in yours over the c-head that I like is the fact that the bucket isn't cut out, only the lid. The c-head cuts the bucket which I don't particularly like. I like the ability to have multiple buckets also. Thanks!
c-head.com/ Here is the link to the company. If you scroll towards the bottom of the page you will see dimensions. We didn't follow this exactly, but fairly close. Even if you dont make something yourself this company sells them cheaper than the nature's head. Hope this helps!😉
I was so impressed with this toilet I decided to copy ya'll and build one for myself! I had a question about how you secured the concrete mixing blades to the wood on top of the bucket. Could you help me out with that? Thanks!
Thank you! So happy that you found it useful. There is a wooden board attached to the bucket lid. The metal rod fits through a hole in the wood and goes all the way through to the top of the seat. It just resting in there that way it is free to spin when the handle/crank is attached. Hope that answered your question. We are hoping to have a more indepth video uploaded in the not too distant future.
This is particularly interesting to me. I watched a video where one man produced 15 buckets of compost in two months and those buckets had to sit for a very long time before it was no longer hazardous waste and could be used as "compost" that's one guy. With 6 people, my math tells me that either you're going to have to tow a trailer just for waste, or you will have to have some other means of elimination for your elimination. That would be about 30- 45 buckets per month if everyone participated in the daily offering. How do you get so much sawdust? I can't help but worry that you guys are headed for a very wide learning curve that could be extremely unpleasant. The heat is something that should be on the front burner.
We do have a large family, but we only use the toilet when there isn't a bathroom available to us. There are lots of places to stop like gas stations, camp grounds, parks etc...You can use the compost as long as it's not being used on eatable plants and vegetables. You can also use a biodegradable garbage bag and just throw it away.
Oh and as far as the sawdust goes we are just using all the sawdust from blue's planer but will eventually run out and have to buy either coconut coir or peat moss.
As long as you are not dumping the compost on vegetable or herb gardens it will fine. Our home in the country had a Aerobic Septic System with two sprinkler heads that sprayed out onto our property. They say that the water is clean and can spray out onto vegetable and herb gardens. We never put a food garden close enough to the spraying area. However we did plant trees that grew really big and beautiful and the grass grew really thick and green within the spraying area. So the composting waste will not hurt the environment. Many city sewage stations all over the world including here in the United States of America are actually selling the sewage waste to ranchers and farmers to be used on grazing pastures and crop fields like they have used cow manure along time.
Scott Wasinski Holy crap (pun intended). I’ve lived off-grid for several years and have used a composting toilet the entire time. I live here with my son and we nearly always have other friends or family staying with us. We have NEVER EVER come close to producing 15 buckets in 2 months!! I’m not sure what that one guy is eating 😂😂😂😂
Amazing idea! Thank you for posting this. Question though, do you have anything at the bottom of the bucket to keep the concrete mixer in place? Or did you just drop it into the bucket and it stays centered? Thank you!
awesome video! how do you secure the mixer on the bottom part inside bucket so when u spin the mix we.. it won't scrape the inner sides and the bottom of the bucket N how to make the spinning smooth.. can u post some pics.. thanks in advance!
Hello, Awesome toilet! I bought a travel trailer and will have a toilet with black tank but I dont want to deal with the black tank I dont want to put a hole in the toilet for the crank but i guess I would have to do that? Any suggestions? Thank you M
Sorry Im just getting back to you...we have been busy. Give me some time to either get the dimensions for you or maybe we will make a more in depth video for everyone.
I love your base! Can you give me any information on how you made it? It looks so much better than the rectangular plywood boxes that you usually see on DIY toilets.
Its half inch painted plywood with mitered joints. It is based off of the C-head Composting toilet. We just looked at their website and tried to create something similar.
@@TheHudallas This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for... thank you! I want something where the toilet seat is not so so far back. I have back problems and I'm short, so that's important! I will check out the c-head website and try to re-create that. :) where did you buy the funnel? it's awesome that it has the little flange so you can screw it to the plywood.
Now for phase two... Where do you dispose of the urine? And where do you dispose of the poop and sawdust? I'm thinking serious long-term grid down where's all this going to go? Thank you this is a serious question thank you
I was just wondering, if you guys are venting that in any way? Because if you don't, and there is no smell, that would be the way i might have to go in my new living situation. Because i won't be able to vent. Great video.
Good job ! I have 2 commercial composting toilets but I like yours. Did you buy the concrete mixer and use the Rod it was attached to it then just cut it to length ? I’m wondering about that part and what does the end look like that your socket/handle drops onto ? Thanks again
A composting toilet that is used frequently and has to be emptied frequently would not really have fully decomposed matter in it. It would still have pathogens in it and present a health risk if not handled correctly. It would have to be transferred into containers to continue to decompose to a safe level of decomposition. And that can take a very long time to fully decompose. If a person emptied their composting toilet and scattered it around in the woods they would be actually scattering poop and possible dangerous pathogens in the woods.
This is perfect!! I’m in the middle of building our composting toilet now & really wanted to replicate an agitator but couldn’t figure out how to do it! I’m guessing you don’t bag your bucket, so do you find the bucket or agitator need to be cleaned regularly or does the dry matter do a good job of keeping everything from getting funky?
I believe it was at home depot... We used flex seal on the inside and an oil based paint on the rest. The flex seal is starting to peel up in places so it might be better to do the whole thing with the oil based.
Have you ever vented the toilet? I know the C-Head company doesn't require their to be vented, but the Nature's Head and others push it. What's your experience?
