A hundred years ago this city, New Hampshire's only city north of the notches boasted the largest paper-making complex in the world. Immigrants built Berlin and fueled a booming economy, but in 2008, the paper mills were demolished, ending an era of prosperity. Explore how "The City That Trees Built" is reinventing itself.

I moved to Berlin several years ago. It was a great decision and everyone in my family is happy here.

Thank you NHPBS for such a wonderful program about our hometown, Berlin NH. It's such a pleasure to be part of Berlin's history and to see my family's contribution to the musical arts in town. A huge thank you to Susan Goyette for the idea to invite her 12 brother's and sister's to share the stage, and Shawn Marquis for such an eloquent interview. There were and still are so many talented people there and I'm proud to be a Berlin native.

Thank you Marilyn! I am so thrilled that the family said yes! I think being on the same stage has been a dream come true for all of us. Thank you PBS for the interesting history of our home town and for acknowledging our dream!

My husband was born there. His mom and dad are buried there even though they ended up in Manchester. Mr Gordon got a job in the fifties with for PSNH. He passed away at an early age.

This town is so depressing.

The people are the draw. You want to see a depressing town? Go to Rochester, start a stopwatch, and stop it when you see a drugged up homeless guy.
