I am a 5th generation family farmer from West-Central Minnesota. The recent interest in food, combined with a large amount of 'misinformation' has driven me to start this channel. I hope to be someone people can relate to and trust when they question how their food is grown and raised. I also hope to become a 'smarter' farmer through my experiences with this channel. I strongly believe we must have an open mind and a willingness to learn about others, or we cannot move forward as one. My goal is to build the connection between farmers and consumers by facilitating a collaborative conversation amongst everyone. I do this by sharing my day-to-day farming experiences, my opinions on certain topics, and occasionally visiting other farms and businesses to help better understand other farming and business practices. There is no limit to where this channel may go, so please join me!!

Love your videos! I’m from MN, born and raised, and it’s really cool to get a glimpse of how farming is done so close to home. I’ve always wondered though, when you’re driving on your headlands and turning, does that destroy the crop under the tires? Is that just ‘the cost of doing business’ to spray? Are the plants able to regrow and pop back up? Is it different from running over corn to running over soybeans? Thanks so much, and keep the videos coming! I’m always checking in the morning to see if there is a video for me to watch on my lunch break. 😜😜
@MillennialFarmer
@MillennialFarmer 6 лет назад
Jeff Worden yes, it's a cost of business. With soybeans, the plants near the dead ones will somewhat fill in and make up for that gap. The same is true for corn but not nearly as much
@TheFarmingLife

Nice video and a nice machine. One question. Is the distance between the tires adjustable (manual with a wrench or with a push of an button) so you can plant in differently spaced rows ore doe you use the same spacing for soya beans and corn?
@sikoro5
@sikoro5 6 лет назад
In one of the previeous Videos he said, that they use the same Planter for beans and corn because they can't justify buying a new/seperate Planter just for the Beans. Considering the new soybean import regulations of China in response to the Steel and Aluminium import tariff of the US Governement probly the right decision.

Zach thanks for sharing mother nature has been a little difficult this year all over I think. I have one question the booms on the sprayer is there a way to adjust the height of them so when plants get taller you can raise them up . Have a great day buddy. God Bless!!!
@MillennialFarmer
@MillennialFarmer 6 лет назад
nashguy207 yes, it has a sonar system that senses the ground or plants (depending on how you want it) and it follows the ground at a pre-determined height.

@chunkmen
@chunkmen 6 лет назад
Zach what is your smallest field you own? If it's less than 100 acres would you consider using it as a test plot for some cover crops like clover/vetch/radishes/rye since those things seem to be what your soil lacks. Clover for some soil stable N. Vetch for amazing early weed control. Radishes for some drainage. And rye for erosion/some weeds as they are allopathic to young plants 2 weeks after incorporation.
@MillennialFarmer
@MillennialFarmer 6 лет назад
chunkmen we have a couple of 10 acre pieces actually. Cover crops struggle to work this far north with a corn and soybean rotation because it often freezes at night during harvest so we cant get anything growing in time. We have flown some on the last few years in late August and haven't gotten anything.
@chunkmen
@chunkmen 6 лет назад
MN Millennial Farmer Vetch and annual ryegrass should work regardless of what time you are done with harvest, only reason I could see it being too awfully hard is if your ground is muddy.

MN Millennial Farmer you don't need to apologize at all. You deserve time with your family and friends. I always seem to be way more tired doing stuff with my family then working. Simply because we don't have enough time with them and we want to make sure they know that they mean the world to us but know that we work so much so we can be able to provide everything that they want to do growing up.
