Their album We Will All Evolve was incredible, Age of Ignorance was pretty good as well, everything since then has been decent at best.. Sounds as generic as any other post hardcore band coming out with new music these days.. sucks, cuz I used to love this band. I mean, go back and listen to their songs like "The Air I Breathe" or "Across the Ocean" and tell me this stuff isn't generic.
MooChicken9000 well considering they've been releasing all their music independently for like 3 years without a label i'd say they're the exact opposite of selling out just on that fact alone

And I do feel that's their case, there are parts of their new songs that I wonder "are they even having fun playing/composing this?" because it sounds boring and generic IMO

God forbid a rock band gets slightly softer and half their fan base that is trapped in the past cries out "Sellouts" or "This soft pop crap sucks." There's this thing called expanding your tastes in music. I've been there. I used to only listen to 5 core bands, maybe a couple underground ones and that's it. But then over the years I've come to like almost every genre of music (there are certain genres I stay away from). I've expanded my music library from a couple hundred to now over a thousand or two. But that comes with an open mind (and ears).
yep. I loved there music from the start. honestly, I'm a bit more into punk rock, metal and screamo than anything else. now I listen to rap, indie, folk, and even a bit of country. I might not know all the big artists but I do know some songs. Im not a fan of botdf but I don't diss their music, band, or fanbase. not my style of music, doesn't mean it isn't someone else's.
echo_503 but you need to accept that there are people who don't like that the song is softer than the previous ones. Maybe just because they don't like soft music and that's it. Of course no one should call them names but it's people's opinions still (not mine btw, I absolutely love the song) :)

Geez. All these people talking about old OLN, new OLN.. to be honest I don't care. Some of their songs I like, some I like less, but the band itself will always be in my heart and ears, and I will always support. ❤️
I'll admit, I like the softer style more then the hardcore style back in the day, but I'm not angry at them because they used to be like that. And that's what old fans say, they're angry at them for being more flexible, and that's what I'm against.

Bart Ramselaar agree to disagree but I do love this song heaps anyways in particular, regardless these guys make mad as music because they have a good taste in music. That being said if they keep on getting softer and become a pop band my opinion will definitely change, pop is trash. =)
When I first heard this song without watching the video, I envisioned my entire relationship with my then significant other. Someone who I still love deeply and have not been able to forget. Unfortunately, love is not enough. We both could not find "common ground". Our hearts were in the same place, but our minds or way of thinking were millions of miles apart. We both simply wanted different things. Love fucks you up man. My advice: Remain single forever and keep listening to this amazing band. (slightly kidding about the remaining single forever)
A young woman met a guy who she liked. they got together. and with time the guys ego grew more and more. and he thought she would never leave him. so he stops giving her the spark he had when they met. and at this point she's only there to enlargen his ego. she's had enough of living in hell. so she leaves. and everything is breathtaking. she even plays in the sand because its so different from where she was. she doesn't know where she is. but she sees her light again.
What’s funny is this song is about both sides of the coin “we can’t let it burn down so we need to find Common Ground” “it’s all about who’s wrong and who’s right”, “it’s so hard to find the truth when the other side wants to burry you” (literally both sides wanting to put the other 6 feet under”. So not sure If it’s about “his ego” maybe a relationship where there’s no common ground so as the lyrics go “we can’t find common ground so we agreed to burn it down” and Matt being the voice of reason “we can’t let it burn down so we need to find common ground”. Edit: also states both sides are in disconnect “don’t wanna learn we just wanna fight” “we’ve been burning the lines between dreams and reality only the true can set us free” and lastly “I know we both want to do the right thing but the needle in our compass is trembling”. This song is definitely seemingly looking like a relationship where both sides are at fault and not the usual “he messed up” or “she messed up” in this case both messed up.

The video however is more like she wants to follow her dreams (risking entering a magic door that she doesn't know where it goes?) and the guy doesn't want to follow her, so it's kinda misguiding. About the video, I think the desert and then the scary darkness represents the path to find yourself, to find your "light". The ending, however is lacking something... I'd have put there a beautiful place, not a rotten tree. And the last circle of light reminds us of the first portal, right? It could have been another, to a breathtaking land, high up in a mountain or... I don't know, like I said its feel a bit lacking :/
Um... this is true if you're talking about being a fan of the people playing the music, and not the music itself. I tend to not GAF about the musicians, I tend to only care about the content they put out... you know... the stuff that actually makes them famous.
@@clearlythuydoan I would disagree that connecting with the people playing the music is achieving some kind of 'deeper level' into the music. The music is the music and the artist is the artist. I do, however, totally agree with you that feeling a connection to the artist can enrich the musical experience, and provide context, meaning, and interpretation. Still, they are two separate things. To call the music by itself 'base-level' is ridiculous and insulting to art of such sophistication. Music can communicate vast fields of wisdom, emotion, and personal experience in only a few notes, as if it were its own living, evolving entity, carrying on long after its artist is gone. Clearly the two are independent of, yet inseparable from, each other.

So in that regard, if you look at appreciation of an artist to be in "levels" then I would say that it escalates like this: you like listening to a song, you like listening to multiple songs, you like listening to an album, you like listening to multiple albums, you connect with the music beyond what it sounds like and also resonate with its message, and then you connect with the artist as a person. That's the framework that I imagine when I think of connection with the artist and to like everything from the music to the message to the person is the ultimate for me.
I've been listening to these guys since 2011, and I'm glad to say that they've been one of the few bands I've continued to listen to from that time. It's been awesome to hear how much their voices, lyrics, and styles have improved over the years. Just like everyone else in the world, their views change over time, and their music reflects that beautifully. Escape will always be one of my all-time favorites from them, along with The Air I Breathe, Sunrise, Same Old War, Falling Away, A World Divided, as well as this song. They are a truly amazing band, and I'm glad I found them so long ago. They've always been in the background of my life, in more ways than one. Some nights when I can't sleep, I just put their music on, and spend hours just listening to their music. Thank you guys for just existing. I'll always support you, as long as you keep making music you enjoy playing.

Can't believe it's been 2 years since this song helped me through a break up. Now married & having some problems, this song is relevant again. For me, It's such a great song but one that I don't want to hear since that means life has taken a turn for the worse.
I'm tired of people hating on bands evolving and parting away from more of a metalcore sound. Accept the change and support the band, because they still kick ass. Great job you guys and I will always love your music! Keep it up!
Kyle Morrow I'm with you all the way on this...these guys are great, no matter what they do. Quickly becoming one of my favorites. I seen them a couple years ago at Van's warped tour and one of the guys had an emergency and had to leave and instead of canceling they came out and played an acoustic set. I loved it. Classy guys here...
This song was literally the common ground that recently helped bring my husband and I together to choose to work through some tough shit we are going through, instead of just ignoring those problems the way we had the past 4 years. We couldnt let our marriage burn down so we needed to find common ground. This song holds a special place in my ❤ thank you for this beautiful song.
Me and my biological father have had strain on our relationship in the recent years, and he just passed away suddenly on Monday, so when I commented on here a week ago thinking that it was a sign how this song has been playing nonstop for me I didn’t think the universe would hit me this hard. This song really hits deeper now, because we’re separated with no way to make amends 😒

I usually don't listen to a band that sounds like this. I usually listen to bands like thy art, infant annihilator, rings of saturn and traitors. But i must say this band right here, has talent!
Song's Dope. People complaining about the band, "selling out" are really just splitting hairs here. It's not like they were ever a deathcore band or anything. They're just doing what they do best, sounding great.
I enjoyed the less screaming not because I think it sounds bad, but because more people worldwide prefer people not screaming down the mic. Loved the song tho great work
Actually I found your band by accident when I was searching for the song we need for school it has the same title xD But I'm glad I did, I listened to your songs and I love it so much, it's so relating. I hope this band grows and be known worldwide, because this is the only band that still releases cool songs unlike my other favorite bands like MCR 😅 that i became a fan when their no longer active
