I grew up canning . we lived in a small village with several farms surrounding us. we often woke up to a back porch full of corn with a note saying these were to small to really sell but thought your family could use them . now I live in the suburbs and really miss that sense of community. I still can with my daughters when we are able . I currently have 22 tomato plants . getting ready to start seeds for the next round . I live in zone 8 . I love watching you guys.

One of my favorite memories of my mother was when I was about 3 yrs old and someone brought her 2 bushels of tomatoes. She canned the first bushel and then took a break and we sat on front porch with a salt shaker between us and ate tomatoes with dripping juices everywhere till we were full. It was evening time and that was our dinner. I was a sticky mess, she gave me a bath and put me in my jams and bed, but those tomatoes will always be in my memory.

What am I doing wrong? Last year and this year my tomato plants are huge and look healthy, so green, lots of flowers, but almost no fruit. I say almost because a few of the cherry tomatoes have really tiny red tomatoes but they're awful. The skin feels gritty and at first I thought they were dirty, but no they just have rough skin. Don't know the variety. My toddler helped me plant by dumping out my seeds, lol. So everything is a surprise. Everything else I planted has done great. That is until pigweed showed up and took over. If anyone knows a safe way to get rid of that stuff I'd love to know. I spent a couple months trying to pick them but more just came, and they're very pokey. Some sections of my garden have pigweed taller than me. My fall garden will be in a different location.

We live in Florida, and we too are not able to grow cilantro because of the heat and humidity. However this year, we came across culantro, it smells and tastes exactly cilantro, but it is a lot stronger so you only have to use about 1/10 of the amount because of how strong it is, this is our first year growing it, but it is doing really well with this hot and humid Florida weather! Y’all should look into it!

Shishito peppers are amazing. Use the squizito herb de Provence vs butter and a little bit the black truffle salt no dip needed and way healthier. It's great stuff I love ordering Jens oils & products! Look on RU-vid there's a guy who made super simple cherry tomato & butter pasta. I can't wait for tomato to come in. Jealous southerners right now! Just waiting here up north 🙄 Jill I couldn't not do unique and tasty varieties but I did do few beds with hybrids. Red is ok but there's nothing like a unique tomato you can't just buy at store.

Barry's cherries tomatoes are awesome! I grew those two years ago and now I know why they call them b a r r y 's crazy cherry tomatoes hahaha, because they grow insanely crazy. I was experimenting that time and not keeping them in cages or staking them I was letting them go wild just fall on the floor kind of deal and several feet away I was growing some steak tomatoes.. the steak tomatoes were getting Infested by caterpillars and the b a r r y 's crazy cherry tomatoes were not even phased they weren't even touched by these caterpillars so something about that cherry tomato the caterpillars did not like and you're right they are so prolific and they are so sweet that year I had given away so many to family and church family and I froze gallons of bags and the freezer and it was awesome. To this day I still remember those tomatoes and those are still one of my favorite cherry tomatoes to grow. We're here in Central Texas and the heat has been so intense that it is quite a challenge let me tell you. Without a greenhouse forget about it to me I think it just seems like it's getting hotter every year? But this year has been a major struggle with the gardens the tomato plants look great but I have not harvested anything but six tomatoes and a handful of teaspoon tomatoes because the temperatures are ranging from 101 to 104°. The heat is doing no good and that's where the frustration comes in to play. That is an awesome Harvest Jill and nate!

Your harvest is amazing! I hope to gain the knowledge to get to that point some day. I am, however, struggling with a few things. Can you do a video on what you use to fertilize your garden and what, if anything, you use to battle pests. Are you an organic gardener? I see a lot of RU-vidrs do videos on what to plant and when and even how to plant and how to start seeds, but I can't find any videos on what fertilizers to use and when and how to battle garden pests.
