Oh my god it’s the three Musketeers of the watch world😂 , so happy to finally see the three of you in an episode together. Sam you’re doing very great , really proud of your progress my guy 👍🏻 Merry Christmas to all of you guys 🎄
I actually disagree heavily with Patina vs. Scratches. Scratches can be removed, they're just physical marks. You can get a nice hand polish and restore it to brand new condition before selling it/ passing it along. One or two careful polishes over the life of the watch isn't going to make a noticeable difference. Patina is a chemical change due to oxidation on the dial. There's no way to revert it without changing the dial out, so if someone doesn't like their dial with Patina, it sells for less/ doesn't mean as much to them.
Recently tried on the Classic Fusion Gold Crystal, it looked insanely good with all black case and strap. Easily the highlight of that session where I saw a bunch of Lange, VC, Patek, Zenith, Rolex etc etc you name it, basically went to all the boutiques but that Hublot stood out the most
The stripy background and shorter seat make it look like Christian was dubbed in with a blue screen. Did you add him in later to fill the long silences?
An aging watch case with dings and scratches is similar to trying to grow your hair out. You gotta go through the awkward hair length and style before you get the beautiful lush. I think having the take that watches generally “look worse as they age” without appreciating the nuance of HOW they age is shortsighted and incorrect.
Guy in the middle hating on steel sports watching because he over paid for precious metal that has now significantly decreased in value and trying his best to make himself feel better. but thats none of my business.
Would you say that the media hypes the demand, the watch manufacturers play the game, there are in the business to make money. Look at the Rolex Daytona, nobody wanted this watch. Is the Daytona worth twice as more than the Zenith El Primero chrono ? If you take away media hype. (Paul Newman Daytona auction) Great show.
I am sure Christian agrees with me on this one; When a vintage watch gets over manipulated to the point of being brand new, it never looks good. if you took your dad's GMT an d cleaned it out, certain parts will stick out and it will look off. Watches, especially Sporty watches look good used but not abused. Certain watches are fine watches and should stain mostly in a pristine state such as a Patek, a Cartier Tank, etc Vintage looks good because aging warms a watches, like white dials get toned down or sharp red gets more mute. Certain watches look better as they age. So many older watches I get, if they were new, I probably will not get them.
Christian stating that steel sports watch margins are ridiculous while selling overpriced straps and running a luxury watch RU-vid account is beyond ironic
My controversial opinions are the folowing: - Hublot is a good brand, overpriced and sometimes guady, yes, but their use of materials, and certain designs (Classic fusion) are just amazing! - RM, mechanically speaking, is as revolutionary as the automatic movement, or, at least as the diver, think about it, a mechanical watch movement that can resist proper shock... that's just mind bogling - Tourbillons are dumb in wrist watches, yeah they are impressive, but I really do not see the point - Timex is just becoming a homage brand with caché, just look at some of their designs, the PanAm is just an IWC (love the look tho), the Q chronos are just Zeniths, Heuer and Daytonas, and some of their digitals are just bad casios (excluding the Iron Man), but I could go on (I'm exluding campers, AmDocs and marlins) - Annual Calendar >>>>>> Perpetual
I will say one thing RE nicks & scratches: no one cares when they're your nicks & scratches or some other random persons'. But when it's someone important, that changes everything. You begin to INSERT mystique into those imperfections. For example, imagine if you could hold Winston Churchill's watch. Every imperfection would be imbued with some mentally conjured story, even if it was just a door knob got tapped that day.
My controversial watch opinion is that Christian irritates the hell out of me. But he just said something so true, which is that the luxury sports watch game is pretty much a financial and marketing confidence trick. He does dare to say the stuff. I might have to give him a virtuous truth pass now and stop focussing on the kind of moustache that only Americans think is cool.
At this point in time if you've got the money a full blown Gold Rolex will be better than playing the pointless game of overspending hoping for a steel sports one. The New gold GMT on a Jubilee or a full blown Gold Blue sub are instant icons🔥🔥🔥
I have 5 casios, and 1 Timex. The timex gets the least wear of any watch i have and it's the only one currently broken and it broke with 3 months of ownership. It has a warranty, except timex said they aren't doing warranty repairs right now. Try back later. Don't buy a Timex.
I think vintage watches can look terrible when they have wear. Sone modern watches are improved by the journey. It's funny, but Rolex always look bad when damaged, whereas, Tudor always look cooler.
Does anyone know that Steel Royal Oak they made with the AP logo as the noon hour marker? Like it didnt have just a line for the indecy and the ap ogo underneath. Like the usually do ya know? It was AP as the 12 hour marker. Grey dial with a date function. Just want someones opinion on that watch. Thanks in advance!
All anyone really needs is a white or silver Grand Seiko which you could dress up or down with any band imaginable. Anyone breaking the bank on 5 digit steel watches is truly idiotic. If you’re ridiculously wealthy that’s 1 thing, go nuts.
That indicates a dial or hands change along the lifetime of the watch. Rolex is always lumed hands with lumed dial. In the days of old, dial changes were super common and done by Rolex stores all day long if you wanted to change it up. But it certainly didn’t leave the factory in this combination.
