Until last year, usually i was listening to the yamcasts with you, but as you left i needed something else, but could not find any good replacement.. until now. Now i can happily listen to you again while wrenching on my bikes ;)

Been said already; but Out of Spite is perfect. Thanks for what you do, Spite. I’m going to ruffle some feathers but the Harley Road Glide is the most overrated in my opinion. I see them everywhere. And I just don’t like them. I think the softail and Iron 883 look cooler. Edit: and of course my Bonneville had to be on the list 😞. I was looking at the Bonnie or the Trident. I didn’t go with the Trident because I know I would have acted like a hooligan on it and I don’t need to end up in the hospital or the morgue at 53 years old.

A terrific podcast! Great to see the gang all together! Would love future episodes with: 1) the “most underrated motorcycles” (or sleeper bikes that don’t deserve the hate) 2) what would be your ideal or perfect ‘3 bike collection’ 3) what is your ‘holy grail’ or dream bike (and why) 4) what are current motorcycle trends that needs to stop And how about calling the podcast “The Pontificating Corner” hosted by Spite, Whitney & Josh?!

Spite, you don't get the boxer engine because you've never really ridden one. It's not all about the offroad. An R1250R puts out 135hp and 105 ft-lb of torque on a suspension that can handle anything the road can through at it. You have to ride this bike as your daily rider, which means every day, and you'll soon see how much more that 105 ft-lbs of torque means on the street than having 200hp. This bike is a hooligan with more than enough muscle to keep up with anyone on the street. The R1250RS is probably the ultimate sport-touring bike available today.

Bought mine too and I love it. I love the V-twin sound. The motorcycle in itself is nothing special. No special features or something like that but that‘s not what this motorcycle is about. It‘s reliability is almost legendary. You get a ton of motorcycle for a relatively small amount of money. It has a decent amount of power, doesn’t weight to much and therefore is probably the perfect bike for beginners.

A Harley simp calling a boxer twin archaic has got to be the single greatest pot meet kettle in history
@monkmoto1887
@monkmoto1887 Год назад
all the engines are archaic at this point. want a parrel twin with 270 crank? theyve been here since the 60s. weve had inline 3s and 4s since the 70s and v4s got huge in the 80s, probably bigger than they are now sales wise. engine tech has been stag in the race world since the early 00s if not late 90s. if you ask me, the industry is going backwards if not shriveling up. big singles and parrell twins is half the market even in the big highway bike market and thats really telling. its like being in the 50s again.
@firefighter1c57
@firefighter1c57 Год назад
@@monkmoto1887 I'd make a couple corrections to what you said. Indian had an inline 4 motorcycle from 1928 until 1942, so the inline 4 has been out a very long time. Is the cross plane inline 4 not a new development? I honestly don't know. Honda had a lot of weird shit in motorcycle racing, their oval piston engine, the V5... I'm not sure when that went away, but I know it was recently so yeah, definitely post 90s for race engines. I seen to remember Honda having a 5 valve engine, but it may have also been one of those previously mentioned engines. The Harley 45 degree VTwin though is archaic. It's been little changed since the 1930s. The boxer twin is the same. And, boxer twin development went like this; 40 years ago, we'll oil cool the heads. 30 years ago, we'll water cool the heads. 20 years ago, we'll move the cams to the top. Harley development went like this; 5 years ago, we'll oil cool the heads... And yes, that is being a bit facetious. I ride a VRod for Pete's sake. And the PanAm is pretty awesome tech wise. The heavyweight Cruiser 45° VTwin though is pretty long in the tooth though. And, so is BMWs boxer by all means. Fact, Harley had a liquid cooled V4 in the 80s to be called the Harley Nova and they shelved it.

This was a pretty good listen while getting lunch ready. Fun topic. Thanks guys. To chime in a few of my own thoughts on the topics. I have yet to get an exhaust on my 701 SM. Looked at getting a Wings a few times, but....I don't know, I just haven't been able to pull the trigger on it. I put on a Cumpan dash on it, seat concepts seat, engine guard, a windscreen (which I have not put on 2 years later and probably won't...woops!). Yeah, I just felt other upgrades had more priority (and usefulness) over just an exhaust. I want to do some long range touring at some point also. I can't decide what bike I'd want to move on to for that though. I keep bouncing around between sports tourers and more road focused sport touring ADVs. Someday I'll come to a conclusion. 28:56 - I agree w/ Whitney. The noise is way down my list - it used to be quite high, though. I dislike all il4 bikes (unless they're racing at the Isle of Man), apart from the R1 cross planes. Over-square v-twins can be good. I like to be unobtrusive and waft passed traffic. I think it's classier, and has far less ego than the attention-grabbing, unnecessarily loud bikes. I don't know how loud my zx9rs are, but they're on OEM zorsts, so unless they're up around 10k I think they are pretty quiet. I wear decent earplugs so I can't really tell.

Ding Dang Kids these days!!!! Seriously, though, the reason that some motorcycles became so popular is that they were the first or best motorcycle in a particular niche for a while. They tend to stay popular after the competition begins to catch up because lust after them for years before circumstances allow them to buy one. They may have been picturing themselves riding that particular bike for several years. The SV650 and later the MT07 are good examples. When the SV650 came out, there were no relatively light (420 lbs) motorcycles that handled well and had a torquey engine that made over 60hp at the rear wheel. The reason that it became such a track favorite was that there was nothing else easily available (at relatively low cost) that could match its performance. After Suzuki made the mistake of restyling it into the heavy and ugly Gladius, the MT07 became the 400 lbs, fun-engined replacement. Compared to the typical car, these bikes (and even the heavier Versys 650) are rockets and plenty fast for many. As Spite stated, in the US, motorcycles are toys. Expensive ones. Many of us who just want an occasional ride on a motorcycle simply don't want to spend a lot of money or time on an occasionally used toy. Just cruising around and leaning into turns with minimal hassle is the goal and an expensive motorcycle it just not worth it to us. Also, dependability becomes a much bigger issue because many of us have no way to get a broken motorcycle to a shop that may well be a long distance away. Quite a few motorcycles in my area get sold "as is" because it would be too much expense and hassle to find a way to get it to a shop and fixed.

So since Spite only buys his motorcycle based on it's exhaust note, guess that means he only buys his beer based on whether the mountain disappears when it's cold enough? Signed....Boxer Owner.

Really enjoyed the podcast, I think a good idea for future podcasts like this would be to allow your followers to enter the podcast and participate, allow each follower 2 or 3 minutes to make it fair, but I totally loved this feeling of just hanging out with fellow riders, Josh's garage has a homey feel to it. Overrated bikes? An R6 is NEVER to be considered Overrated, what it means to the motorcycle community allows that bike the right to NOT be part of this list. BMW's boxer engine? Yes! Totally Overrated I think. My personal choice? MV Augusta F4! I hated it, had a plastiquy feeling just like Whitney was describing, everything was super expensive and it was just too unreliable. Want an exotic Italian bike? Get a Ducati 916 or 748... even an Aprilia RSV Mille. Greetings 🙏

42:10 / Whitney "Didn't understand ..." No, sweetheart, I think the poster didn't understand what came out of his mouth/fingers. Just comparing everything they had in 2018/2019 to what I rode this year, you can't lump them with all HD after the '70s. Too much change (good and bad) is happening in York, PA and beyond.
