It's the bits you haven't seen...and might not want to! Look away before the end of this short video if you're at all sensitive. OK so it's not X-rated but for seasoned cruisers and even those of you that are looking to cruise you might just be concerned when you see the problem with P&O's largest and newest cruise ship Iona. Take a tour with us Kaz and Nige around the Conservatory Mini Suite cabin number 8237. This one is a bit shocking.

We’re on Iona in just over 2 weeks and we’re on deck 12 Our Cruise Agent at Bolsover advised us against the deck 8 cabins (even though they were far cheaper) and I’m glad we spent the extra on a bigger, better, deck 12 cabin, with the extended balcony.

we were in 8306 it did not bother us as we just pulled the curtain to change but if you look closely the cabin reminded me of a shipping container but it was fine and we enjoyed it

We did like the cabin, the conservatory was lovely. Just felt that the lack of privacy spoilt it a bit for us. We enjoy looking directly out to sea from a private balcony but couldn't do that here. Loved Iona, great restaurants and the back of the ship around the pools was our favourite spot. Wouldn't hesitate to book again but would avoid deck 8.

We were onboard the same week as you on deck 15. Although those rooms look lovely, my wife and I both said we wouldn't like them, mainly the seats outside your balcony, then the obstructed view of the sea. The final aspect is that literally if you are on your balcony everyone on the balconies above can see you from above. I probably wouldn't want that room even as a free upgrade let alone at a premium rate.

@@kazandnige No it was lovely, we were near the front in the recess part, it was perfect. Room not as nice and balcony much smaller but well worth it to sit in my pants and enjoy the peace.

Looking forward to our cruise... did a bit of youtube 'research' before we booked so we knew Deck 8 was a no-go. Strangely enough, the travel agent was only offering us Deck 8 cabins, and seemed unaware of the issue... We found some other options on the P&O site and requested a specific cabin so fingers crossed for next week :)

Very strange design but not unique to Iona. We loved the cabin but obviously not the location. It was certainly odd to have people sitting in chairs at the end of your balcony. We think at least P&O should remove these.

This is a deliberate ploy to make you choose select fair 😂. Otherwise you just have your fingers crossed that you will not be given one of these

Lol! Yes it's a gamble, but if you get deck 8 it's still a lovely cabin, just remember to put your clothes on before you open the curtains 😅

When we booked our mini conservatory suite for May, our travel agent actually said don't have cabin on deck 8 watch you tube and you'll see why so have got one on deck 9

To be fair we were 'warned' about deck 8. We had a guaranteed cabin so had no choice. It was a lovely cabin and ship but just very odd.

It was designed and built in Germany and Germans would have no problem with it like it is, they assumed that the British would like it too but we like our privacy. Have you both been on a German cruise liner I haven't but it is more open house naked area as well. I did not mind it I even had a chat to the passersby the only moan is I woke up to the jacuzzi blasting away.

The forward deck 8 cabins are higher up so more private. They have no chairs outside or hot tubs, just the promenade.

At the end of the day - do your research once you’ve booked. I knew about this via You Tube and knew to avoid level / floor 8.

Good idea but unfortunately with the UK cruises you couldn't pick the cabin location. Also it is more expensive to choose a cabin rather than just a type of cabin.

No, these cabins definitely not for us. I would have thought the two seats directly outside were for your use. I think a lot of people will be asking to be moved. Bit of bad planning there

Yes very strange having people sat at the end of your balcony. A lovely ship though. Just avoid deck 8.

Well we are on deck 8 in one of these cabins and sort of disappointed but on the other I have no shame, so we will see

It is a very interesting location. Waiting for the complaints about peeping in cabins and people walking around in underwear 🤔

@@dave6018 yes, you can't book in advance though, you can book on the day using the my holiday app. It is well worth it!!

Any one who pays select price would check their cabin and not get one on the promenade deck. In wouldn't as it is pretty obvious what you are going to get. If you didn't get a select price and bought an early saver to save money and were issued that cabin then you get what you deserve. No they won't make it cheaper as it already is.

It was a UK non stop coastal cruise. Unusually there was no option to book a select price but we get what you are saying. We were advised of the deck 8 issue so it was luck of the draw. Lovely ship and we really enjoyed the experience but would avoid deck 8 in the future.
