Guys, Budapest is the real deal! We spent 3 days exploring the city, seeing all the incredible architecture, visiting the Szechenyi Thermal Bath, walking the entirety of Maragaret Island, and eating some delicious food. We can't wait to go back one day!
Enjoy!

About us:
We are two bisexual women from Australia who love to travel. We quit our jobs in 2022 to go on the trip of a lifetime - a year long trip visiting some of the places we've always dreamed of going.
We have been loving the full time travel lifestyle, and we've stayed far enough below budget that we're extending our trip out to 15 months. We decided to make these travel vlogs to preserve the memories of the trip and to share what we get up to with friends and family.
We also want to share how we managed to budget and plan for travelling for a year, and how we're staying on top of our money while we're on the road and in the sky!

Tons of the old building were bombed to absolute rubble in World war 2 or destroyed in 1956 during the revolution attempt, that's why all the historical building are newer or reconstructions.

I am glad you liked Budapest. I am from Slovakia and about 150 years ago, Budapest had been our capital city.

What you don't know about Hungarian history: The medieval Hungarian kingdom was practically destroyed during the so-called Turkish period (1526-1699) (I am adding it for the second time, because the first time was in 1241-1242, but it was rebuilt). At that time, the area was a borderland between the Habsburg Empire and the Ottoman Empire. There were constant fights, peace only meant that there was no major military action. The Matthias church in the castle quarter remains from the medieval kingdom. There is another memory from the Middle Ages in Esztergom, the Bakócz chapel. From these you can guess what was destroyed. In the following period, the area was more of a buffer zone for about 100 years. At that time there was also a war of independence (1703-1711). The previously densely populated area has become uninhabited. The population of the area had to be resettled and everything had to be reorganized. It was slow, which had both political and economic reasons. In 1848, a new war of independence broke out, followed by Habsburg oppression. Not much happened until 1867. At that time, the Kingdom of Hungary and the Habsburg Empire were united. It was then that the Austro-Hungarian monarchy was established and dissolved in 1918. (The disintegration was followed by civil war, "according to schedule"...) Today's monuments in Budapest mainly come from this period. The constructions of the 1920-1940 period are also connected to this.

Many stairs can be avoided if you take tram 4 or 6 to Széna tér and walk up Ostrom Street next to Burger King towards the Vienna Gate.

@@travellinggleefully Thank you for the tip, I really liked City Park and Margaret Island, those are my types of hangouts. Plus I want to visit the thermal bath, sight see and eat a lot. All the best on your next venture.
