Welcome to the Third Time Around Ranch. After living in the country most of our lives we still felt like something was wrong. We kept talking about getting back to the basics of life and taking care of ourselves like our great grandparents did. So instead of depending on stores for everything, we bought some land in Alabama where we intend to build debt free on a fixed income and become as self sufficient as we possibly can. We are happy to have you join us as we carve out a new way of life for ourselves and our youngest son.
We would love to hear from you, you can leave us a comment or if you'd rather we love to receive mail.

I have this chipper as well and love it but a couple things I would suggest are gloves and hearing protection. Stay safe.

how does it handle dry leaves?
@ThirdTimeAroundRanch
@ThirdTimeAroundRanch 2 года назад
If you don't put too many in at once it handles it ok. If you get too many leaves or pine needles in at a time it can clog the the chute.

I use them in my garden on the walkways, over landscape fabric. Keeps the weeds down really well. I also put them around my fruit trees to hold in moisture and they feed the trees as they decompose.

Leave in a pile for about 4-6 months let them decompose. work them in your garden...enjoy some yummy veggies!

Use them for mulch around your Citrus trees. But! since I have never done that, check one of the University farming websites. Or mulch the heck out of your driveway.

Put the chips in a 55 gal drum and burn them then pour the ashes around your fruit trees and garden. Corrects soil ph and does a good job too
@ThirdTimeAroundRanch
@ThirdTimeAroundRanch 3 года назад
Does this raise or lower soil ph? Our soil is low at 5.2
@traviskelly5480
@traviskelly5480 3 года назад
@@ThirdTimeAroundRanch raises the ph in low ph soils. Just don’t use it around acidic loving plants like certain flowers

I believe that's where we built my shop. We wanted to keep the house away from all tree's. We have seen a ton of houses with tree's laying on top of them due to the severe weather we get.

Use it for a vegetable garden. It almost looks tall enough to drop the processed material in to a cart and moved around for landscaping purposes.

when I ran a tree company my dad would have me bring him a couple loads of chips, he would let them sit for a year or so and then use his tiller to turn them once they decomposed and put them in the garden. I had others that would take several loads and turn huge piles of them with tractors and make compost
@ThirdTimeAroundRanch
@ThirdTimeAroundRanch 3 года назад
That's some great info! We will have many piles of wood chips, thank you!

Keep the small chipper build a feed hopper put the big chips into the hopper and slowly feed through the small chipper to reduce the size. Thicker branches should be split down to a reasonable thickness to get them through without stalling the chipper

I chip my slabs but be aware that they go through a "heat" during decomposition. You don't want to burn up your plants.

My father had one of those and they used it all the time. Great for cleaning up your yard.. maybe safety glasses wouldn’t be a bad idea. Your property is nice and flat. Do you still see snakes occasionally?

I was wearing my glasses most of the time but you can't tell the guys what to do, LOL. It just looks flat, it is actually mostly slopes. We have not seen a snake since that 4 ft long one last year.
