For years now we have been raising all our own meat and eggs, this year we start a new chapter as we begin planting fruit trees and veggies in our 100x100 garden. We have made lots of leaps this year from progress around our farm to the design phase of the bedroom wing of our house, to renovating a local home for sale.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.

When we planted our apple trees we put a short piece of perforated pipe in with them so if there's ever a draught you can pour water into the pipe directly down to the roots

In my experience, those compostable pots take months and months to decompose. I wouldn't plant them directly without at least putting some cuts in them.

Chuckie was chief supervisor he was implamental in Erin getting her qualifications as a expert concreter, stonemason, carpenter, plummer and mama bear he was also the kids supervisor babysitting while Erin and josh work I hope frankie can be as good an inspector as chuckie was supervisor I guess we just have to wait to see if he likes pears too...😊💙

Small garden hose cut up to about 6 to 8 inches and you can put the wire through it to protect the tree from getting damaged

My grandma had a huge garden with plumb trees apple trees cherry trees all kinds of vegetables and berries and a small spot for tilips and roses.. It was the best thing ever growing up there every summer.. Best feeling in the world is eating a carrot straight from the dirt or picking an apple from a tree and just eating it.. It's been like 25 years since I've done that.. Your kiddos will thank you for the trees and garden you're planting now

I've been watching you channel since you started building this house/home. Josh is the MAN! It proves that if you can tackle Electrical Engineering, everything else is pretty much cake. Just watched again!!, Great choice of music Erin.!! Our local council, when they plant new trees or bushes, they put a hose pipe into the ground to the bottom of the plant, then cover with earth, and when they water the plants, they do it down the hosepipe that has been placed there, and the water goes straight to the bottom of the plant. Ellie, hope I see her again, I love her shes a cuttie!!! Bless. x

Did your other two pugs react to Chuck's death? When our cat Gibby died, our dog Jasper was with us as we dug the hole to bury Gibby in, and he sat there and did his dog cry. It was so awful!!! Jasper and Gibby loved each other big time. Now Jasper is gone (he was 14 when he had to be put down). You guys have cow manure....that's great for the apple tree soil (though the land you put the trees in might already have manure in it). The renovation house looks so amazing without the growth around it. It's going to look amazing when you guys are done with the rest of it. Great job!

I admire the things you have already done. I am looking forward to the "reveal" of the investment house. I hope that not all is lost on the AirBnB. The orchard is going to be a great source of food and fun for years to come. Man, I love the spring, don't you? I live in NC, the trees snow yellow pollen, but the Azaleas come out for two weeks, the flowers bloom, and the garden goes in. FWIW - we were always taught to plant new trees leaning slightly towards the prevailing wind - that way, over time, they would tend to grow straight up.

When I was a child (in the 50-60s) in California, we were migrant farmers and picked peaches, at one point. I remember having so much peach fuzz on me. It would itch so bad! I swore I would never eat a peach again! But years later I am proficient at making Peach Margaritas :)

I remember planting pear trees about 42 years ago and really enjoyed them but they were more work than the apples and the peaches because they seem to grow straight up and produce very weak crotches on the limbs so we made simple spreaders which force the branches down and help them to have a strong crotch section to support the pears once they started producing.

Important notice, I`m 75% sure that the catterpiller you showed in the video is Thaumetopea processionea. It lives in oaks and does bring some serious health issues via contact or inhaling of their hairs. These are the issues they bring serious rashes , often allergical reactions, Trouble breathing and throat ache. I would recommend getting your local tree service to take a look at it. Very Beautiful. What I Love the most is the growth. A family grows together, ever split and growth stunts. As a tree shoots when pruned, Little growing pains brings a family closer and makes them stronger for future growth. You have made your tree strong with great roots and as you plant new seeds, and help your sprouts grow and prosper, you have created an amazing fertile landscape and life for the future.
