You have to be true to your self and Allah, not people. You can be a good Muslim and still be there for your family. Islam makes you love your family and parents evening more, but that doesn't come at the cost of Eman. Alhamdulillah I just saw a young man who embraced Islam. His grandfather was a well known and respected pastor in his community. Just before he died, he confided his secret to his grandson - that he was a Muslim at heart. He trusted his grandson more than anyone else. Now his Grandson has become Muslim. Now that is eman.

Whilst christians nowadays are not following what Jesus (peace be upon him) came with, rather they deviated from his path.
