When Eric mentioned that the Mackinaw Bridge takes 7 years to paint and then they start doing it again, reminds me of a saying here in the UK. There is a bridge in Scotland called the Forth Bridge, which had staff who until recently were constantly painting it. So in everyday life if something seems to be a never-ending task its commonly referred to as being 'like painting the forth bridge'
I’m from Michigan and I love it! Michigan is a hidden gem and I try not to brag too much about the lakes everywhere and the sheer beauty of it all not to mention swimming, canoeing, kayaking, snowmobiling, skiing, ice fishing, the beautiful colors in the Fall, the fresh air especially the smell of pine and fireplaces and bonfires! ♥️ Enjoy 😉 p.s. I don’t know if you’ve noticed how clean it is the further North you go. Michigan is very proud of the North and it’s mostly Government Forest and the DNR does not have patience with folks that try to trash it!!
We did notice that! All the beaches and trails were so clean up there! It always felt like we were the first people visiting the areas because they were all so pristine 😍 Coming back and doing an epic snowmobile trip is high up on our bucket list now ☃️
I love my home state of Michigan. You could very well spend 6 months traveling the coast of both the upper and lower peninsulas and still not see everything! Michigan has the longest freshwater coastline of any state.
@@elizabethw.454 I guess you get used to it. It's a small price to pay for getting to enjoy the other 3 seasons in such an amazing place. Plus, the cold kills off bugs, which is a good thing!
As a proud Michigander, I love my state. My wife and I traveled the UP this summer and loved it, it was her first time exploring up there and I hadn't been up there since I was a kid. I'm glad you guys enjoyed my beautiful home state. You haven't even seen half of the fantastic things the Lower and Upper Peninsulas have to offer. Come back anytime, you're always welcome!
Oh ya, it was so hard picking spots to visit - there's so much to see and do up there! We could have visited 50 waterfalls/beaches/campgrounds and still had plenty left to go! Glad you all had a fun trip 🙌 We'll definitely be back!
I'm a Michigander as well and for the first time in my 44 years I went to the UP to camp and do some sightseeing just a few weeks ago. What a magical place! Now I am obsessed with UP videos and will absolutely return again. I would love to live there!
Fun fact- those who live in the UP are known as Yoopers and the pasty is such an integral part of Michigan culture, that Calumet (one of the towns you drove through on your way to Copper Harbor) has an annual festival devoted to it. You can find pasties at grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries, and even little shops dedicated to just making pasty. It's the ultimate comfort food in my opinion. My late grandmother taught me how to make them and now I make them for my own family. And when I do, my kids join in just like I did when I helped Grandma and I'm instantly transported back to those days when I was the one standing on the chair so I could reach the table to roll out the dough. Also, I can attest that the shape of a pasty largely depends on the maker. Mine are nowhere near as dome-like as the ones you bought. I love when Michigan and the UP specifically are showcased in videos like this because the UP is such an incredible place that has so much area that is completely untouched yet. And I can tell you that if you grow up on the shores of the Great Lakes, it calls to you for the rest of your life. I live in another Upper Midwestern state now and I'm a few hours drive from Lake Superior's shoreline and a solid 9 hours from my old hometown. But at least once a year, I HAVE to go stand at the water's edge and just breathe. I can't explain it other than it feels like I'm recharging my batteries. I am so glad you are enjoying your time there because is such an incredible place. (PS. I hope you stopped at the Snow Meter just outside of Mohawk on your way to Copper Harbor. It's pretty impressive to see just how much snow the UP can get in a winter. It's one of the few things I DON'T miss about living there.)
Michigander here. I wish y’all could’ve gotten over to Mackinac Island. It’s a slice of heaven on earth, and so relaxing. I chuckled at the way you pronounced “Tahquamenon”. Us Michiganders know how to say it lol. It is a hard one. 😉 Michigan is full of exciting things to do and see. You definitely need to come back!!!! ❤️
Michigan here too. Yes, I agree, they should have gone to mackinaw Island. The UP definitely takes more than a week in my opinion. There's so much to see.
BROCKWAY MOUNTAIN DRIVE was completed in the 1940’s by my husbands grandfather. He employed men during the depression using the CCC (civilian conservative coop) program. Helped men get back to work using newly learned trades. Grandpa used donkeys & dynamite to level out the road. Grandpa used his masonry skills learned in Germany to erect the stone guard rails leading up to the mountain top. Now that we’re grandparents, watching you explore the UP has us thinking we need to take our grandsons up there and explore family history. Grandma S (hubby’s grandma) made pasties. She & grandpa S. ran a boarding house in Calumet…copper country. She did laundry, bedding & fed eight to ten men at a time (plus her own four children). I have her pastie recipe. I tend to make them in the fall. They’re a family favorite. You explored a lot of Michigan’s upper but you missed Big Bay. It was a logging town owned by Henry Ford. His factory on Lake Independence is still there. A family bought it and built their home inside. There are many beautiful hiking trails up there. The 1950’s movie “Anatomy of a Murder” was filmed in Big Bay. The murder actually took place at the Lumber Jack Tavern. Our friend Jack B. Owns it now. He has loads of stories about the area.. he also has load of beer and other adult beverages. You can camp at Perkins County Park, which is practically across the street from the Lumber Jack. No need to drive drunk, but staggering could still get you in trouble, so drink responsibly. Thanks for the cool memories of the UP. Looking forward to more videos from the two of you.
This video was first rate you guys! 😯👌👏 You've come SO far over the years with your production value! I'm not just talking about better quality cameras. I mean in general. Everything from the way you interact with your audience to the sound and editing approaches. It's all so polished now but yet it still feels raw and real! Some people lose the magic when they polish a channel up but you haven't. Anyway.... Those drone shots were incredible! 😍 And I loved that you put the names of where you were! I often use your channel as inspo for future trips (I am too unwell to travel these days but just in case I ever recover). So it's super helpful to know where all the cool spots are so I don't have to figure it out myself. And I mean, come on..... you had me at the puppies ☺😉
You so eloquently described what I was thinking while watching this video. Right down to the trip inspo. Thanks! And thanks Eric and Allison! One of your best videos yet.
Every Michigan video I've seen makes me want to go visit. Seems like you could spend a few summers exploring and never get bored. "daddy my hat blew off." "I hope your head was in it" Smokey and the Bandit.😂
Never knew Michigan was so beautiful, it's not really advertised to us overseas. The water especially is gorgeous and it reminds me of parts of Canada!
It’s not advertised to us in the states either!! Whenever I mention we’re vacationing in Michigan, the response from people out of state is “…why??”. They have no idea how wonderful it is. I think that’s part of the reason everything is so clean and beautiful, there is so much untampered beauty.
Michigan is such an underrated state most people not from here have no idea there are endless lakes and rivers and it doesn't get much better then northern Michigan!!!
Michigan IS wonderful! The Mighty Mac! You need to wear Michigan merch! Michiganders are NEVER out without it! Michiganders are the NICEST people you will EVER meet!
I was born and raised in the UP. Thank you so much for highlighting the area. I feel like the UP doesn’t get nearly the credit it deserves. Side note, it’s hugely debated if pasties should be eaten with gravy or ketchup. Trolls (people who live below the bridge) generally eat pasties with gravy and Yoopers (people born in the UP) eat them with ketchup.
I was so confused when I was offered gravy for my pasty when I was at college!! LOL! Just a bit of salt for me if the pasty is still hot and ketchup if it is cold.
Michigan born and raised. Lived here all my life in the lower peninsula. Have relatives in the upper. Been there many times and been to most all of the places you visited. Daughter lived up there while doing her clinicals at Manistique Hospital.
As a yooper, it's so awesome to see my favorite RU-vidrs visiting my state. You definitely made the most of your trip and I'm glad everything worked out.
I am a Yooper, too. Near Ishpeming. I don’t live there now. I live in a neighboring state. It’s Mackinac Bridge, not Mackinaw (but is pronounced Mackinaw)….. sorry don’t mean to come across as the grammar police. Nice to see you make the trip to God’s country.
thanks for sharing,I was born and raised in MIchigan, and I am 69 years old and still love to go camping and always finding new places to see in my beautiful state... keep up the good work filming and sharing with us all God Bless you both...
This might be one of the prettiest places I've ever seen you visit. I've never been to Michigan and never really thought about going but now it's definitely a must. Eric, your drone shots are out of this world good 🙌
My dad is from Michigan and would talk about all the vacations they would take in state. Guess my grandpa didn't like to leave much. I see why. And the Tahquamenon falls... my dad and uncles would call it cola cola falls. Looks like a iced cold coke falling down. Up looks awesome. Been wanting to go. Just reinforced to plan a trip there and cuddle puppies of course. Great videos. Love u guys
Ya, we're pretty bummed we missed the change...sadly we have to be in Asia for a few weeks or we definitely would have stuck around longer to see that! 🍁🍂
You missed Mackinac Island in Michigan. We just got back from Mackinac Island, it's my happy place! It's like stepping back in time. No cars allowed on Island, just horse and carriages and bicycles, and lots of fudge shops!
We took the trail to the point out of Copper Harbor in 2018. We took a wrong turn and ended up on an ATV trail with an FJ Cruiser pulling a Casita. It was quite knarly but after a few hours found our way out of the woods. The FJ never skipped a beat and 4 wheeled the Casita with no problem. My wife and I were born and raised around Detroit, however we’ve lived most of our lives outside of Michigan. Michigan has many gorgeous pull offs strategically placed along many of the highways that you can park for the night. Free. Sort of like rest areas.
I've lived in Michigan my whole life...born and raised in Cadillac, currently living in Lansing, but I spent a year living in the Upper Peninsula (Houghton), and I can tell you firsthand that the natural beauty of this area is unbelievable. Most people visiting Michigan just think of Detroit, but we have so much more to offer. If you visit, make sure to get to the U.P. (as we call it), specifically the Keweenaw Peninsula where I lived...you won't regret it.
I'm a very proud Michigander and this was an absolute delight. The UP is truly unlike anywhere else in the world and it was so fun seeing it through fresh eyes!
RE: the shape of the pasties , Muldoon's shape is not typical of the pasties in most places in the UP. The half moon shape you know from Cornwall is the usual shape.
Born and raised in Kalkaska. 5th generation to goto Crawford School a little 1 room school house k-8th grade. My graduation from 8th grade was 5 people . UP in the fall is absolutely stunning. We camped every summer at castle rock campground in St. Ignace. Climbed Castle Rock more times than I care to count. Glad you had a good time [n my home state. Remember in Michigan the drive is part of the joy.
You did noteven scratch the surface of the hidden treasures of the UP of Michigan. From Sault Ste Marie to Paradise, fom Manidtique to escanaba, the 300 plus waterfalls to the casinos, and much much more.
You really should have explored the Lower Falls, way more fun and entertaining than the Upper. Ask any Yooper. Also there are more than 100 waterfalls to explore. Next time check out Grand Marais area too.
Tahquamenon Falls in the fall is the most beautiful place. So many colors and so serene. Truly stunning. I really love it up there. Cumberland Falls in KY is also gorgeous. Hard to pick my fav as they are both equally amazing.
As another Michigander that visits the UP on vacations, we love to divide the Upper into sections and try to see as much as we can on each adventure. One tip I can recommend is to make sure that you have paid the extra $12 for the park pass on your MI license plate. So many State Parks up there to enjoy for just the $12 annual fee. And if you love to travel with pets, so many places offer good affordable lodging with a minimal pet fee. Thank you for doing such a great job promoting our wonderful state of Michigan.
I've lived in Michigan all my life and we have never been known for our seafood! We are known for the shape of our state and for the four seasons of sports you can do. It's a long list! Enjoy!
Ok, you two are naturals on-screen, you do you well! You have the ability to express yourself according to what is occurring in any given situation. Personally, I feel that I can relate to you both more because of your authenticity. You really do make viewing something to look forward to each week. 👍👊
Teh-kwah-men-on Falls is my best translation. But, I've been a Michigan resident (Lower Peninsula) for close to 70 years and have only been to the UP (beyond Mackinaw Island and St. Ignace) once.
Glad you got to enjoy the mitten state, too bad you didn't get to witness the northern lights, they're difficult to catch unless you're a "Yooper". I live in lower central MI & have chased the polar lights aka Aurora Borealis X years! The best place to view them is the Dark Sky Park near Mackinac Bridge, the amount of stars you'll see at this park is AMAZING! For out of towners it's impossible to plan a trip to see these lights, its a luck of the draw. Alot to do in mitten state you'll have to come back for a longer visit. The west side of MI is beautiful w/ alot of fun beach towns to check out. That'd be a great trip start at St Joe's & work your way north to the top of the lower peninsula.
This was one of your best videos ever. I really enjoyed seeing everything you both did. Exciting. Missing you on Instagram -you use to post so much more. Keep these vibes going.
Presque Isle, Erie PA. You can camp in tent on beach....or stay in camper close to the beach. There is amusement park, waldameer. Free admission, pay per ride
Now THAT was some beautiful UP scenes. I'd be checking out land prices there for sure. I'll bet winters are beautifully freezing. LOL. I have to say the puppy cuddles were one of my favorite times. I was right there with you enjoying the pup cuddles too. There's just something about puppies that touches my heart. Your F250 is surely holding its own. This video was so complete with food, camping, travels, and cuddles. Thanks.
I grew up in the up we definitely are a different breed up here, we love to hunt and fish, our idea of a good time isn’t going to the club or going shopping, it’s chasing Whitetails in the fall, fishing in the summer sun or in the gloomy winters, I’m very proud to be a yooper from the 906
That was absolutely Beautiful. You did so much so fast. The color of the water is stunning. Michigan is the world's best kept secret. Love it!! Puppies are happiness, I love puppy breath. They were to cute! Btw you both look really happy. Especially Alison.
Oh man the throwback on the Alaska video blows my mind. I remember when that was posted. You guys are proven quality content because I’ve been a fan of your adventures for years. Keep ‘me coming ya’ll!!
Welcome to Michigan! My husband and I are from here. We have camped, shoe shoed and cross country skied around theTahquamenon Falls. So glad you had time to stop at the Pub. Enjoy your trip.
The falls are so beautiful thanks for taking us folks with you, I hope you had a nice trip come back soon! I was at the house sitting in my office(garage) and saw you folks drive by. Every time I get a Muldoons Pasty my wife comes out with a brown bag to take home 🙂 is this a redhead thing 😂. Seriously come back spend some time, there is so much to see in the UP all along the coasts, the history...I ❤Michigan!
Thank you for highlighting my home state! I cannot imagine living anywhere else❤️One aside...whitefish is a lake fish, not “seafood” Try smoked whitefish, it’s amazing!❣️
Native Michigander.. I am from South West Michigan but have spent every summer heading up north for all the wonders, there is much along the lakeshore before you even get to the UP but the UP is the absolute gem in the crown of our state especially in fall. Hope you can come back again soon!
@@Theendlessadventure it’s so beautiful in fall and winter, I suggest finding an apple cider mill to visit. Fresh donuts with hot apple cider 🤤 and the caramel apples!!!
A Yooper here! You all hit several great spots! There is so much to see and do across the whole U.P.! If you’re looking for off road campsites get yourself a forestry map however we’ve used the Ioverlander app to locate off road or secluded sites! Lake Superior was formed by a volcano. One reason the water is so crystal clear is because of the temperature plus unlike the 4 other Great Lakes, she doesn’t have pollution pumping into her! The U.P. is an all year playground with plenty of activities and adventure for those that seek it! Pasties with brown gravy, yummy but no to the ketchup! Great trip!
Asia trip?! what have i missed? also, as an Aussie I loved this episode because before this I knew absolutely nothing about Michigan... now it's definitely on my list :)
We're doing a couple group trips in Vietnam and Bali over the next few weeks. 😊 Glad we could show you a cool, new part of the states. Honestly we had no idea it'd be that pretty either and we're only a few hours away! 😅
Michigan is also known as the “Fresh Coast”. It has the longest freshwater coastline in the US. I grew up in the UP and know it well. Still have land in the west UP.
I'm a little confused, around the 1-minute mark, Eric said this area is known for its seafood, how can this be when the area is 100's of miles from the sea??
The lakeshore of Lake Superior is really beautiful- so glad you’re able to explore! I would have stopped to cuddle puppies, too. And the slow motion food shots are always appreciated…the “oh yeah” made me wheeze-laugh.
I LOVE da yoopee, eh? And am soooo envious!!! Lol I do have to say, out of all the RU-vid channels I follow, this was the best compilation I've watched, on my beloved yoopee. Highlight for me, is your bear bobblehead, named Jeff lol. My name is Jeff, and my grandsons nickname for me, is "bear" 😂 Thank you for the great video, and safe travels
Amazing video guys. What a whirlwind of a trip and the filming and editing were stunning. It was so beautiful there and of course the puppies were so cuddly. I look forward to the next one. P.S. for those of us from other countries could you name the states you scratch off please.
First time watching one of your videos. I was very impressed. I was born and raised in Michigan which is what drew me to watching and I'm so glad I did. The time and effort you put into taping is evident. Also, how much enjoyment you get out of doing it. Bravo !
I love my state! I briefly considered moving to Colorado, but Colorado doesn't have beautiful lakes that you can swim in. And we still have skiing even if it isn't big mountain skiing!
That's so funny to read this comment! I'm live in Michigan too and we've been debating on moving to Colorado! They both have such amazing natural beauty! I decided if able, I will have property in Colorado along with up north :)
Yeah, I love Colorado, but they don't have many great lakes (no pun intended!) for swimming, and their summers are so brown and dry (and so many fires now!). And no apple picking and cider mills, either! Nothing beats a summer day spent swimming in Lake Michigan on a sandy beach!
So pleased you got to see how beautiful our Great Lakes are! I feel like so many Americans miss out by not seeing/appreciating these understated yet naturally opulent landscapes.
I'm a Michigander and I am a "Troll". I live under the bridge! So happy you are enjoying my State. You must come back, you have just scratched the surface of what makes Michigan... "The Winter, Water, Wonderland " !
We spent a few weeks in the UP this summer - one of our favorite places! The clarity of Lake Superior & Lake Huron was amazing! We boondocked on a friend’s property near DeTour. We will definitely be back!
I'm from the UP and we are known for our pasties - not seafood. We aren't located near the ocean, but lakes. And you guys made me laugh. You don't know much about Michigan. There are 2 parts to michigan - Upper and Lower Peninsula. There is NO mainland. The UP is not an island - we are a state. Please do more research before you introduce a unique part of Michigan and that is the UP. As a true Yooper like I am, I'm quite annoyed with this video. We HAVE an island called Mackinac Island. You missed an amazing opportunity to see our beautiful island. Research goes a long way.
also a Yooper, who actually still lives here and also has a cottage in Hiawatha National Forest, I am so glad you guys got to enjoy it. And while the U.P. is not an island, it is a peninsula. And really who cares. And yes we are known for pastys but there is not a town in the U.P. that does not offer a Friday night fish fry, almost always fresh fish from our lakes. I don't know why the poster is so nasty. I am glad you enjoyed it and am grateful you guys spotlighted our piece of paradise.
