Молодая девушка пришла на берег небольшой реки и от избытка переполнявших её сердце переживаний, заговорила с ней. Но река, - это не просто вода, это граница между миром живых и миром умерших. Вдруг, отвечая на обращение девушки, река открыла проход между мирами. Девушку обступают духи мира мёртвых (люди на сцене) и спрашивают, почему она сидит здесь и нет на лице её улыбки. Шёпот - это вопрос к девушке из мира мёртвых. Девушка не может видеть и слышать духов, но может чувствовать. В состоянии глубокой печали, она мысленно жалуется своим подругам, что двор её дома наполнен гостями и конями (она должна выйти замуж), но у неё нет родителей, она сирота, и никто не может благословить её (без благословения родителей на брак, не будет девушке счастья). Бесконтрольные рыдания охватывают девушку (не об этом она мечтала, ей так хотелось быть счастливой, горе терзает её сердце). Печальный конец этой истории вы видите на сцене: духи из мира мёртвых овладевают девушкой и она, не владея собой, оказывается в реке, точнее в "лодке", но "лодки" не было, она взялась из ниоткуда, "лодка" это метафора, символ, который показывает, что девушки больше нет в живых, и лодка, направляемая одним из духов, отправляется по реке, пересекая границу мира живых и мира мёртвых.
