Our RV Fresh Water Holding Tank Cracked - I Replaced it With a New RecPro Fresh Water Holding Tank

If you don't have time to watch the whole video I hope you at least watch the first 2 minutes, you will be surprised with what you see.
Well it happened to us on our first day of a week long camping trip at the campsite. Our 6 year old fresh water holding tank became very brittle and cracked pretty bad quickly emptying all the water out of our tank as you will see in the video. This same thing has happened to others I know so you might want to see how your factory installed tank is holding up. I was able to tape the crack and support the area so we could continue camping.
I replaced the tank with a much better quality tank, you will see me compare the old one and the new tank and you will be surprised in the quality difference.

Our 2016 Flagstaff just developed a small crack near the bottom corner. Flex tape is holding for now but I'll be ordering a new Alpha tank soon. I appreciate the info and comparison between the old tank and the new one. Glad to see the new tank is thicker walled and better design regarding strength and port placement. Now to remove the additional bracing that was installed to prevent the tank from falling out. Thank you Michael

Thank you Victor. Some people have just removed the water filter cartridge and left the housing in place. Or they remove the hoses from each side of the filter housing and connect them. Once the filter is gone you can use a blue inline filter that goes on your hose. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos

Thanks for posting the video! I'm going to be upgrading the water tank in my camper and was curious about the specifics involved. It turns out it looks pretty straight forward and easy, but it's just one of those things where you don't know until you know! I've got my camper pretty setup for extended boondocking with tons of battery and solar, and way more propane than I could ever justify needing. Only problem is we've only got 26 gallons of fresh water, and with just a few very basic military style showers and some general life stuff, this doesn't last nearly long enough!

Great question :) and thank you for watching. First I took measurements of the tank that was cracked Height, Width, and Length. Then I looked up the trailer specifications for the water gallon capacity of the tank. With this information I started searching for the tank on line by entering the measurements and water capacity for a RV fresh water tank. After lots of looking and reading reviews I searched for the best price and bought it. I hope I answered your question. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos

Oh no I hope you don't get a broken tank Ken, its no fun especially when it happens while on a camping trip. You might want to crawl under there and push on the tanks a bit and see if they are brittle. The fresh water tank is more likely to go than the gray or black tanks since they are built out of a better material.

Awesome I'm happy you found it, a few of my first videos are hard for me to watch because the filming wasn't very good and for some reason after I downloaded them to RU-vid there was a hissing noise in the background. Sometimes my videos tend to be long but I do that so people that need detail on how to do something like it this way. I make the videos mainly to share ideas and to help people people learn how to do things themselves instead of paying someone a lot of money to do it for them. I try and put out a video every Friday if I can. Keep an eye out I have some really good ones coming out on the Lance. The last 5 videos are of our 2375 Lance year 2020 we bought from a friend a couple months ago and we love it. All the other videos are of the 2017 Rockwood Mini Lite 2504S we just sold (We put 27,000 miles on it). We live in Sonoma County so we camp at the coast a lot and try and camp every 2 weeks year round. What areas do you like to camp?
@GiantsNinerFan56
@GiantsNinerFan56 10 месяцев назад
I like to camp at Lake Don Pedro (we have watercraft) and in the spring and/or fall we camp on the American River in Coloma. It’s on hiway 49.
@GiantsNinerFan56
@GiantsNinerFan56 10 месяцев назад
By the way, we are considering getting a 2023 2375. There is one at Meeks RV that we can get for about 70k and it’s loaded with options, but they are going out of business. We love our 1995 and we have all the options except no inverter.
@thetraveltrailerguy
@thetraveltrailerguy 10 месяцев назад
@@GiantsNinerFan56 I just finished installing a crazy cool inverter that powers the whole trailer and can run the air conditioner for a couple hours, charger, transfer switch, four (4) 100 amp Battle Born Batteries, and 790 watts of solar panels. I'm working on editing that video, so it may come out in 2 - 3 weeks. So you might want to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already

When ordering a new water tank directly from the dealer / manufacture, do you know if the fittings will already be attached to the new tank? Thanks for your help.
@thetraveltrailerguy
@thetraveltrailerguy Год назад
If you order from the dealer of the builder of the RV the tank should come with all the water inlets and outlets in the correct places to reconnect your hoses and water level sensors. They will need your trailer year, make, model, and VIN number in order to order the correct tank for you. What year, make and model trailer do you have?
@Dan-sc8ww
@Dan-sc8ww 2 года назад
Thanks, Michael. Now, I'm thoroughly terrified! Instead of simply supporting my flimsy water tank (you may recall I recently commented on your tank supports), I'm thinking about replacing it. Although, my travel trailer is only 3 years old. Does your water tank fit tightly in the space? In other words, does it touch the bottom of your floor above, or do you have a little bit of space up there? The reason I ask is that I would like to put a three-quarter inch piece of plywood in place of the metal supports, and run some thick angle iron, side-to-side, and secure the ends with bolts going through the left and right side rails of the trailer. Maybe I'll crawl under there this week now that we're on the last day of a nine day heat wave (currently 108 at 4:00pm).
@thetraveltrailerguy
@thetraveltrailerguy 2 года назад
LOL Dan I remember you. The new tank has maybe a 1/8" of space from the top of the tank to the bottom of the floor. I'm forgetting what trailer and model you have again, what do you have? And were do you live?
