Today I am doing cabin chores and talking about our simple life here in Alaska

We are the Retherfords and we live in a 12x16, (with a loft) 375 sq.ft, dry cabin in Alaska. We live a simple and minimal lifestyle. We believe that experiences and relationships are more important than things. We enjoy the simple, yet hard work involved in living this way.
We are on grid and do have electricity, but use it minimally. We have no indoor water, bath, or toilet. We have wood stove heat only.
We have a lot of different content on our channel, just real life stuff for us. Cabin life, our simple ways, Christian content, adventures, hikes, Keto snacks & meals, and some hobby videos (David’s Bronco build). Our Channel is a smorgasbord of life lived.
Our goal is to become financially free, and able to pack our bags and go wherever and whenever God leads us.

Hi Angie, great video. I really like your woodstove especially the grate shaker. You certainly look like you are enjoying your life. The simple life is the way to go. Thank you. I like the wood stove too, I am so glad we were able to get it fixed this year and did not have to replace it. I am enjoying life, I have been very blessed. I think we will know everyone who will rent a room in the house, (no-one is a stranger for long.....but some are always strange 😂) I am very grateful to have a talent that I enjoy so much...I have never had painting classes or lessons...its just trial and error learning..thats how I do things best! Sorry, guys, took almost 2 days to watch your video. I was pretty busy. A lot of jobs to do ,there, even some are small duties, takes time ! You are a hard worker, my friend! That cardboard, wasn't any utility for that? Like using it to reinforce some walls , to keep the freezing out from the chickens place , or something. I just asking, sorry, I don't want to bother! Glad you found time to watch...time to rest a minute from your work. I do compost some cardboard and we use it to start fires in the wood stove, but sometimes we get a lot piled up...we do have a recycling center that we could also take it to. I have to say at 67 I like things a little easier. The only thing with wood is how many times you have to handle it But its sure nice heat John sure is happy with your Art Blessings

I can understand that, it does take its toll on the body too. Wood is a struggle sometimes, but yes the heat is amazing, when we go somewhere without a wood stove we miss the heat. 😆 I am glad he enjoys the art, I sure enjoy creating it. I used to send them to the thrift stores when I was done with them.....but was encourage to sell them instead. Thank you for watching as always. Take care

Chickens are so much fun, I might spend more time with them than people....they don't mind me telling them anything, such good listeners 😂. I am one of those (a list maker) I like to have a plan, even if the plan doesn't work, just having one counts. You know the satisfaction of putting the work in yourself, its not something you can understand without living it...but it sure is great, isn't it? Thanks for watching. We are only 4 miles from a store, we have snowmachines, or could walk. We have plenty of family, friends and neighbors. In all of my life living here we never had a time when we were in desperate need of anything. People are very willing to help each other out here. Thank you for watching.

A lot of the winter it is very dry, when we are doing outdoor work we wear carharts. If we were out walking or hiking we definitely wouldn’t want to wear jeans. Thank you for watching.

We do start fires with cardboard sometimes, but we try not to burn a lot of paper in there because it causes a lot of buildup in the chimney, it burns fast but not hot enough. Thank you for watching, have a very blessed week 💕

We choose to live in our small cabin and we rent out rooms in the house to recovering addicts, that are trying to get their lives back on track. Rent is very high here, so we charge very little, so they can afford other things they need to get ahead a bit. Thank you for watching.

Oh thank you. Ya, he knows I can handle most things myself, and I usually prefer it that way 😆 I didn't realize the weight loss was noticeable, but yes, I lost 15 lbs during the fast. I have since gained back 3 and holding steady. The fast was such a great cleanse and reset for body, mind and spirit......its going to be a fantastic year. Our channel is based on our simple life in Alaska. The channel you speak of, is an excellent channel, they changed their name and I didn’t realize I had used their new name. We are two completely different channels, different in our simple ways. Sorry for any disappointment.

I changed the title of the video although I feel that I was in the right to name the video what I did. I have lived in Alaska for 52 years and have lived the simple life since my parents built an off grid cabin in the bush in the early 70’s ( when I was a child). I’m sorry you were so disappointed in our channel. Do you know that we are not actors? There are real people making these videos and negative comments aren’t always good for constructive criticism, sometimes they are just hurtful. When you don’t like a tv show, you turn the channel, you don’t message the actors and tell them you don’t like their show…and that isn’t even their real life.

Please just live and let live. Eric and Arielle would never be so crass as the people making mountains out of molehills regarding the name oc the video. It gladdens my heart that they are not such mean-spirited people as those naming egregious comments. May you move on and find some good in your hearts and stop dragging good hearted people down bcos you are living an unGodly life. Move along if it's not to your liking.
