I only buy crumbles to make my homemade blue cheese dressing which isn't to say they are not important. My supermarket deli puts out its own tub of bleu cheese crumbles and I have always liked them.

My 11 year old first tried it when he was 8. He calls it "Ant Cheese" because he says it taste the same way ants smell like. He doesn't like it but I love it.

It does smell like ants..... There's a small ant we have in Oklahoma commonly called a pissant that gets all over you when you garden.... when smashed smells exactly like blue cheese

I really miss the blue cheese cubes that came in a jar with herbs and olive oil. Was it Roseburg? Haven't seen that in years.

Any cave grown bleu cheese from the cool caves in Minnesota is best. Very creamy and flavorful.

Some have a chemical flavor, some just taste great. Unless you've tried a few, maybe just had a bad one. The chemical ones are fairly prevalent sadly.

I went to a little mom-and-pop restaurant where they made their own dressings....had blue cheese/ranch on a lettuce wedge with crumbled bacon that was absolutely wonderful. Like avocados I have now acquired a taste for it

Crumbled? Get a chunk of Maytag, or, better, Point Reyes and compare with any of this stuff. There is no “crumble,” there is only Zool.

I wish for ATK to do a review and explanation of white cheddar cheese. I mean what makes a cheddar cheese a white cheddar cheese? 🤔
@anderander5662
@anderander5662 3 года назад
No anatto....it is a coloring agent that makes cheese yellow. White cheese just doesn't have coloring agents added

Crumble your own and save the extra $4-8 per pound cost ...
@danielleanderson6371
@danielleanderson6371 4 года назад
I mean if you buy pre-crumbled you can usually get a smaller portion, if that's what you're after. Relative price may differ depending on the market, but generally if you don't need a lot it's better to buy a smaller amount, even if it costs more per ounce. I'm not a big blue cheese person, so if I needed just a bit for some type of hors d'oeuvre I'd rather not pay extra to have a bunch of leftover stuff to keep around. I might enjoy some with a little prosciutto, but once the prosciutto's gone I really don't want to have half a block of cheese to use up.
@johnlord8337
@johnlord8337 4 года назад
@@danielleanderson6371 Then you must not be a blue person ... real blues eat lots of blue ... and having a 4 ounce for par value $15-20/lb ... vs $8-12 ... EAT MORE CHEESE !!!
@danielleanderson6371

I'm lactose intolerant. If I want something funky I usually reach for the fish sauce or the kimchi. Cheese is kind of a special occasion thing for me, and when I do have it I tend to prefer Alpine cheeses.
@johnlord8337
@johnlord8337 4 года назад
All cheese when properly made is lactose sugar free. The lactose enzyme works and breaks down the sugars into the lactate crystals in hard cheese. Milk is a danger - but cheese is the blessing - so eat without caution.

Smell, maybe, but it tastes good. Try on fresh soft bread with a cup of hot black tea. Despite the pungent smell like sour socks (as Bridget put it) or a pair of stale trainers, you might just enjoy the taste. I prefer the whole.
@shortbus7771
@shortbus7771 4 года назад
@@ningcheng_shu I've tried it on steaks and burgers. In salads. Even in dressing for chicken wings....still horrible. I think I'd rather eat the sour socks.
@ningcheng_shu
@ningcheng_shu 4 года назад
@@shortbus7771 I can totally understand. Everyone has his own preference for tastes. The fresh soft bread and hot sweet black tea might make the taste and smell less pungent. Indeed, even if I put the cheese in the fridge for a bit longer time, I might get embarrassed by people around.
