I remember when my daughters went to prom. It's one of those happy, sad, proud, scared, what do I do now moments. I absolutely love how Jeremy watched them leave just to make sure he opened the door for her. It's a very simple act, but can tell you a lot about a person. I've been married to my amazing wife for almost 27 years and dated her for 8 months before that. She's never had to open a door when we are together. When my son first started dating, he tried to get away with not opening the door for his date and not walking her to her door after. Needless to say, he got a stern talking to about how to be a man and how to treat a lady. Good on you, Jeremy.

First off, Nevia is stunning. Second, you have brought your kids up right and when you do that their soft place to fall is always home. Home is where you are. I know a parent cannot help worrying about their kids, but your kids are different. They are outside, they know about animals and gardening. You have given them the biggest gift ever which is the most important, your time. Your house build is a training ground for the teaching your children work ethic, which is sorely missed in today’s society. Well done.

My husband and I went through this right of passage 5 times. It doesn’t get easier, we are now grandparents to 12 beautiful children and we treasure each milestone with a mixture of happiness and joy. We laugh at our 5 children as they are now experiencing those first’s moments of letting their offspring grow and learn and experience the cycle of life. Nevaeh looked so pretty in her prom outfit (great job, Melissa, on your styling efforts!). Glad she was able to enjoy her first prom. Love the views of the animals, especially those cute sheep and horses. Kudos to the kids for all their help with the animals -- you can tell the animals really appreciate the attention. What a beautiful view of the horses with the rainbow -- I'd print and frame that one!

I remember exactly what I said to the boy who picked my daughter up for prom. “ I am entrusting you with my most valuable possession I expect her to be returned in the exact same condition she is leaving in”. I then turned and gave her quarters in change and told her to call me and I would be right there to get her. That was before cell phones. She looks beautiful!!!!!

So many firsts! You now have a daughter who has passed her Drivers Ed Course, and went to her first prom. She looked so beautiful and her date seemed like a nice well mannered fella. Nervous parents over the first prom. You guys are so funny . My mother was so nervous she fell off my skateboard ( that she was teaching me to ride) and broke her ankle, the morning of the NIGHT of MY first Prom. It was so fun visiting her at the hospital in a formal prom dress. Of course I went! Trust me it’s a memory I will always have even 55 years later. Neavah looks stunning!

Beyond your mission of building a homestead, your storytelling is very sophisticated. A simple example, the brief edit of Nevaeh coming home from the prom with a broad smile was classic. Jeremy's restraint with his daughter's date was so heartwarming. When I first started dating my now husband, my retired police officer uncle politely, but firmly, reminded him that I was valuable, worthy of respect, and hurting me wasn't a smart idea. P.S. the Lord's personal love and interest in each of us is just so humbling. He stopped the rain in plenty of time to dry up the roads to ease Melissa's Mama Heart a little on that front. I'm glad Neveah had fun!!

Neveah looks beautiful, as a mother of 3 daughters I completely understood your apprehension. It's so hard to let go, but eventually you'll get used to her being somewhat independent. My 3 are all grown with kids of their own and I still wonder how I survived them being teenager's . It's a beautiful experience that you will cherish forever.

As the siding portion of the build comes to an end. I still laugh remembering Jeremy changing a new drill bit into the drill ages ago. I homeschooled my son from 2nd grade to high school graduation ... so I did do the kindergarten grads, but... it still doesn't prepare you for the this... NOTHING does... lettings go and letting our children sore.... is just scary.

First, the house looks so good, y'all! I swear Melissa when you told me a log cabin look with board and baton I seriously thought, "How can that be?" But, now I see it, of course, and it's amazing! A good simple look that feels like home. You definitely have an eye for design. Second and probably more importantly, my eldest is 30 years old now, my youngest 28 almost 29. Between them I have 4 grandchildren and I've lived through 2 senior proms. Like most things just give it time and learn to breath through it all because it is happening and it is completely out of your control. Trust that you've done your job well as a parent and that your child adult will make the best decisions possible and know when to come to y'all for advice which takes time to learn to be objective, but you'll get there. You never really lose your children, but rather you gain a very close friend once all your raising is done.

Ooooh, im going through that "firsts" period with my kids too. One’s even going away to college his year. All the firsts they’ve gone through before, they did under our protective care, even those first days of kindergarten, "graduation" from elementary school, and all that. It’s so different (and somewhat terrifying) when you send them out into the world without you. I’m so unbelievably proud of them though. We’ve raised them right I guess, because they are turning out to be stellar young men. 💕

Loved that rainbow. I must say that it seems building that house with all the issues & problems you have had, would be way easier than getting the first born daughter ready for driving & watching her going out the door for prom. Door close now controlled panic thoughts begins. Whoa Bessie.

16 years old, what a beautiful age, my mother had married at the age of 16, but I was born 11 months after the wedding, how unconscious, I had a mother and sister. Be proud of your daughter, she is beautiful, she is good at singing and above all she is very responsible, but also very good parents

OMG!! I can so relate... my daughter is also going to prom in one month (and after prom party), drivers ed, first boyfriend... It's a lot to "compute" all at the same time.... My heart was so with you during this time.

Once again, you made me cry, sending your daughter off to prom, she looked beautiful. Reminded me of our son's firsts, they are 26 and 29 now. Time definitely goes too fast. Thank you for sharing your firsts with us.

Im a mom of 5 and 3 of them are girls. The "firsts" are always filled with joy, nerves, sadness and laughs. Its ok to wonder if you did it right preparing them for these milestones. Its time for them to fly. You guys did great. Keep spreading the sunshine. ☀

Why did I EVER think watching this episode was a good idea. You two! Don’t you think building a home is WAY easier than raising babies. No matter what! Letting your little birds fly is the hardest thing we as parents will ever do. My oldest is flying the coop next week and graduating. I was sobbing, When the two of them left the house I just took a deep breath. Mama’s are like that. I always say every time my babies leave the house. “ I love you, be safe, be smart, make good choices” because that’s what my mama told me. And then I pray…a LOT! Make every day with your babies no matter their age count. You two are awesome. Hugs!
