Would you be able to put together a tour of your growing set up and how you put it together?
@PetalsSepalsandSpines
@PetalsSepalsandSpines Месяц назад
Sure! We will probably only make one next year though, we will be moving house soon, and it would make more sense to film the new setup, that will be slightly different 🙂

thank smell sounds amazing! i didn't know this cattleya, but it's really pretty as well. too bad a lot of orchids you can find in the american market don't reach Europe (and vice-versa).

The colour to this Cattleya is stunning too with the white petal and purple labellum.

I love your shelves. The wood, the lights, no visible wires, the trays. Really smart and beautiful.

thank you so much! we've been thinking of maybe moving next year, and i was considering changing to the ikea wire shelves, but you're right, i think the wood makes it look much softer :)

Excellent video. I love that you take time to show all of the plant and the flowers completely. I’d love to see a video on worst smelling orchids as well, as unique ones because I think a lot of people are subject to buying some “fragrant” orchids online not even realizing that can mean rotting meat smell or something like that. Plus sometimes unique odd smells are nice for some or just neat to experience. Like the jelly beans from Harry Potter. Hope you know what I’m referencing too. Jelly beans that taste like good foods, grass, bad things like burned popcorn, etc. smells are fun to relate and talk about P.s. I love the finleyi sooo much and also want any hybrid I see but rarely find them available and yet to own one but yours is stunning. I hope I find more of them in bloom in your videos. Subscribed and sorry for the long comment >_< haha
@PetalsSepalsandSpines
@PetalsSepalsandSpines 4 месяца назад
we love long comments! I'm also on the hunt for more finleyi hybrids, i don't know why the species seems to me like it would not thrive under under our environment, but i love it! I know exactly what jelly beans you mean. Orchids can be like that too, we have one that smells like wet straw in a barn, another that smells like bleach, another that smells like shrimp... it's fun to me!

Thank you for the video, I have a similar taste :) I love the Rhyncholaelia digbyana, it is one of my favorites. I also love all Brassavolas and usually all the Ph. bellina and Neofinetia hybrids. Other than those I really adore some specific sorts, like the Phalaenopsis Ba shi Red Sun, Tying Shin Fly Eagle C1, or the Liodoro Sweet Memory. Recently I had my Chiloschista lunifera blooming, this has a specially nice fragrance as well

Jasmin and gardenia, my very favourite fragrances too, as well as violet. The most amazing scent experience I had was with my jiminey cricket. Every day, at 9 PM the fantastic Brassavola fragrance travels across 8mts in my lounge and almost knocks me on the shoulder like an invisible hand. Absolutely an amazing experience. Unfortunately I have been having some issues with latest bloomings. Hopefully I will get to enjoy it again this year😊

Very nice! I would describe my walkeriana as a spicy rose. Maybe cloves and vanilla with a very luxurious rose. I would definitely recommend getting one. It's very easy to grow but a bit finicky with the blooming, Yes for more parts!!!

Two worth mentioning: Cycnodes Wine Delight really does smell like cherry cough syrup and the black Monnierara Millennium Magic 'Witchcraft' started out smelling like black licorice, but as weeks went by, it became more of a freshly ground pepper fragrance. Both have fantastic cascading blooms that always surprise people.

I have to say Bc. Beulah Bradeen 'Pink Diamond which is Cattleya walkeriana x B. nodosa smells to me very close lilac but sweeter. It's like a very compact nodosa and is fragrant during day and night. That is one of my favorites.

I have a gigantic Dendrobium delicatum, which is now 32 years old and is around 5 feet in diameter . The pot is so big it takes two people to move it now lol. The fragrance is very similar to Kingianum (I have a small one of those too) and I would describe it as very 'green' smelling, a bit honey and very much hyacinth. It seems to flower biannually, one year very few flowers, the next year, so many you cannot count them. At a guess I'd say it's had as many as 500 flowers on and the fragrance is so powerful you can smell it from around 20 feet away outside (it's too intense to keep inside when in flower, so we move it outside if it's not frosty). This orchid is also incredibly tough, and has survived a minus 6'c frost inside of the glasshouses when we had a power cut one night , zero or just below are perfectly tolerable for short periods too, but it's happiest at cool temps or around 10'c to 20'c, and needs cool in order to flower well. Mine always flowers in around late March early April in the UK
@Drobium77
@Drobium77 Год назад
also, this plant produces around 30-40 kiekies every year, so most people I know have had a cutting from it lol :-p and it grows in ordinary peat soil not bark mix. Some people have difficulty in growing it because they put the kiekies into bark and then they die, but , it works a lot better in ordinary peat based compost.
@PetalsSepalsandSpines
@PetalsSepalsandSpines Год назад
that sound amazing! i wonder if i would detect more hyacinth on fragrance of the delicatum than on the kingianum... i have found that these australian dendrobiums' keikis are slow to develp in bark, i had made a mental note to try sphagnum next time, but maybe peat would be better! thank you for your comment!
