My favourite is the rescue from city of fire the tension is just so palpable when they cut the doors with the gas that could knock them out at any moment, or the roof of the tunnels caving in, my favourite part is when that happens and the 2 controllers lament "Those international rescue boys tried, but it was impossible, they died helping others, reckon they're the bravest men I've ever met"

Sun Probe is probably the most memorable episode I remember watching as a child.
3:54 Fun fact (although most fans probably already know this): The shot of Elevator car 3 suddenly veering out of control was actually an outtake during filming. But they thought it looked great as a shot, they decided to keep it in. Hence why they filmed the additional sequence of Elevator car 3 crashing into the plane to add more suspense. Plus they may have also decided to keep the shot in as they were extending the episodes anyway after Lew Grade requested they make Thunderbirds as 50 minute shows instead of 25 minutes.
Thunderbird 3 firing Sun Probe's retros with the safety beam, then Virgil and Brains saving Thunderbird 3 from the Transmitter Truck, is easily my favourite rescue, followed by landing Fireflash on the elevator cars.
My favourite rescue is the City of Fire rescue with the Firefly, Mole and Hover Bikes. You really feel a sense of danger for Scot and Virge and they use the cutting equipment that had previously put them into a comma.
The thing that ruined that episode for me was the sexism aspect of it. It should have been about the Tracy family (specifically Scott and Virgil) risking their lives to save a young family trapped in sealed passageways of the Thompson Tower, knowing that the gas that they were using to cut through metal doors as quickly as possible had the potential to knock them out at best. Instead, because it (the rescue) was caused by, and the Tracy family seemed to play on this, a female driver, it seemed to imply that women can't drive. It would have been better in my mind if it had been caused by a car having a stuck throttle or something, not making the female driver seem stupid in an example of blatant sexism in the script
This was an episode as a child who loved Thunderbirds (Still do by the way I'm 62 now) used to give me nightmares. I used to find the fire and vain attempts to control it very frightening and the thought of being trapped in a small enclosed area below ground when you're not aware anyone even knows of your plight was truly scary to me and of course subsequently the collapse of The Thompson Tower has parallels with 9/11 even if not the result of a terrorist attack, but yes now it is one of my favourite "Edge of the seat" rescues from the series.
@@jerryattwooll4864 I know what you mean it was the first episode I watched in full and it scared me too, when the family members become unconscious I fully thought they died. After finishing that episode it took me a few days to go back and watch the next one. But I must have enjoyed something about it cause I continued watching.
@@SiVlog1989 Remember this was made in the early 1960s and there were very few female drivers at that time. In fact, here in the UK, very few people owned a car. Even when I passed my driving test in 1975 at the first attempt (I'm female by the way), male drivers still outnumbered female drivers probably at a ratio of 10-1. Changed days now but the worst drivers I have seen are in the under 30 age group, especially young men showing off in high-powered cars they are really not capable of controlling. In fact, how some people ever managed to pass a driving test, and that applies to both men and women, I'll never know.
City of Fire will always hold a special place in my heart as the first ever episode of Thunderbirds that I watched as a child. I was 6 years old. My dad got so excited because it was a favourite tv show of his when he was a child. Good times, good times.
I enjoyed all of these, but I was hoping Sun Probe would be #1. Not only did the probe need to be rescued, but then so did Thunderbird 3. That was a twist I never some coming (being old enough to have watched it the first time round). And then there was Braman.
Day of disaster. As a child I had the Dinky TB2 with TB4 in it's pod and a Saturn V Airfix kit. All you needed to reenact the episode. That and Sunprobe were always my favourites. Sunprobe has a fantastic shot of TB2 moving through a mountain pass in the Himalayas.
There is nothing that you cannot but admire for the Thunderbirds show. The music, the rescues themselves, camera angles. Just absolutely brilliant, childhood memories jam-packed to the end. In 2020, I still have Thunderbirds in my Amazon Library. There is no show that should have ever been remade then that of Thunderbirds. Don't know if it's just me and I need to get with the times
Extremely late comment of mine but did you mean it should or should not have been remade? Because it has, the remake is a mix of practical + CGI and is generally quite good.
@@xap95 Don't worry I am always late replying, I meant that I didn't want it to be remade unless they were going to avoid tarnishing the Thunderbirds but considering that it seems to have done well. I ain't complaining, I just loved the original. Everything about it made me feel warm and hooked on for the rest of my life!
Sun Probe for me. Just when the spacecraft was saved they had to rescue TB3. Then TB2 had the wrong box in the pod and had to recalculate the frequency for the safety beam on Brains's robot. So many twists. Plus Tin Tin was in it!
My favourite is the rescue from city of fire, the use of practical fire effects adds to the danger and the tension is just so palpable when they cut the doors with the gas that could knock them out at any moment, or the roof of the tunnels caving in, my favourite part is when that happens and the 2 controllers lament "Those international rescue boys tried, but it was impossible, they died helping others, reckon they're the bravest men I've ever met"
also ricochet a complete white knuckle rescue i can remember not knowing if the guys in the space ship died or were saved the first time i saw the episode great episode
Fireflash is probably the best ever. Sidewinder and Sun Probe are next for me. Crash Dive is also terrific. The suspense at the end of 30 Minutes After Noon is palpable as Scott has to ditch the explosive bracelets.
🚀1)Trapped in the sky🚀 2) Pit of peril 🚀 3) The Bridge 🚀4)Operation crash dive 🚀5) Penelope on danger. 🚀6)The end of the road....... They are my favorite because there are a lot of unknow machines never construct even today in 2020. ........ 🌍1) 3 machines for save a FUTURISTIC plane (Luxury First class, pilote on the top, telephone booth with video screen) 🌍 2) SIDEWINDER a freaking insect machines, the mole, and two red trucks. 🌍3) A rocket's truck transporter, a collapsing bridge.🌍 4) Rescue a plane in the ocean deep. 🌍5) a monotrain 🌎6) A big red machine who construct MOTORWAY.
Another good one was the rescue of the Mars probe rocket that was trapped under the bridge that collapsed under it’s weight! Thunderbirds 2 and 4 got the capsule away with the crew safely and literally only seconds to spare before it ended in a catastrophic explosion!
Although the work of Gerry and Sylvia are over 50 years old ,they have not dated. They are as good as if not better than the sci-fi from today. How many films will be remembered with as much love as the work of the Anderson's and their teams?
After the cable car is stopped how does T2 retrieve the cables? They are clipped onto the car with spring clips and the electro magnets on those trucks can retrieve the Sidewinder but the magnets on T2s cables can't hold a smaller, lighter cable car. Good job I was only a kid when Thunderbirds was released in the 1960s. Most memorable line ever is Brain's, "Those eyes! Those staring eyes!"
Mine has always been the Sidewinder. The vehicles they used, the tension as one of the pads comes off before reattaching and above all, Barry Gray's music.
Yeah I remember watching the orginal Thunderbirds series of "The Perils of Penelope", I know that Doctor Godber was defeated but both the series and the Storybook picture haven't explain or show what has happen to him after Virgil and Gordon rescue Lady Penelope from the runaway Express Train. Plus what about Professor Borender, how did he manage to get away from Godber after Gordon shoot his gun on the floor?
i did like the rescue when 2 kids play as Thunderbirds and accidently getting the frequentie of reall thunderbirds and come to their rescue. first was funny time but later it was real and must to rescue again for the kids. it was really trilled episode.
🚁🚁🚀⚡02:18 One of the very best episode. The music, the fear, the INCREDIBLE SIDeWINDER, the mole with the two red truck at the end....The story is like a MOVIE on big screen. Explosion, the details. We can see the sweating on the puppets's clothes inside the heat machine for examples. This serie is not unfashionable. Always fascinating!!!!
I would say Thunderbird 3 saving the Sun Probe and Thunderbird 2 saving Thunderbird 3 should be on the list as one item. Alan fixing th Escape Unit Circuits in Thunderbirds Are Go. And finally Thunderbirds 1 and 2 keeping Skyship 1 from falling onto the missile base whilst they evacuate.
I'd have thought that "Trapped in the Sky" would have been no 1. Curious that "The Duchess Assignment" is on here, as that rescue doesn't immediately spring to mind when you think of Thunderbirds. However, in my adult years I have come to hold that rescue in high regard, as it is quite exciting. You've got Scott and Virgil putting two awesome pod vehicles into action, in a situation they were completely unprepared for, and battling a vicious inferno to save a life, which they accomplish by the skin of their teeth.
It's mentioned in the episode, but they completely did not expect to have to fight a fire, so they had no firefighting equipment and all they had was the Mole and the DOMO, which was not fireproof (the suction caps melt). That and the fact it's a lonely spot implies that the regular fire service would never get there in time.
@WaterCrane, remember how John in Thunderbirds 5 while giving TB1 and TB2 the Duchess of Royston's location how he said "Jeez, that a lonely spot." Meaning "what the hell is the Duchess doing in such a remote location."
Fireflash is still my favourite, i was introduced to Thunderbirds by the remake that came out in 2015. I loved that and eventually found episodes of the original series to watch as well. Such an amazing show concept that should be explored more nowadays.
This classic show has stood the test of time! "They" say what you grow up with is what you love. However how many kids shows come & go & end up just passing fads? Think Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or The Smurfs, You don't see them in re runs or on the big screen. How many kids growing up in the 70s,80s,90s still found Thunderbirds appealing & even now as adults watch it with their children. "Day of Disaster" was one of my favourites.
Favourite episode of Thunderbirds is "Path of Destruction" the Crablogger rescue because, the two operators are sick with food poisoning, (no help), Penelope having to contact the Crablogger's designer at short notice while keeping her ID secret, The Thunderbirds having to shut down and unload the Crablogger before the machine explosive and destroys a dam just epic personally.
I think sun probe and city of fire are really good both have you on the edge of your seat. But I can’t deny I have always had a soft spot for the man from mi5. The theme is fantastic and it really sets the tone of the episode, will lady P make it out alive
Ooh, that's a hard question; they are all so good. For pure excitement, plus excellent editing/music it has to be Trapped in the Sky. For nail-biting moments and skilful flying (by 2 guys standing on planks suspended in mid-air) - End of the Road. But for best bit of rescuing by my favourite Tracy then it's Gordon saving the Fireflash in Operation Crash Dive.
I like city of fire its quite tense as the family is running out of air and Scott and Virgil taking the risk using the very gas the made them collapse to get to them through the steel doors
Here is my Top 10 Thunderbirds Rescue and Episodes list, that I believe should of been in the top 10 in descending order. 10. The Martian Invasion 9. Ricochet 8. Danger at Ocean Deep 7. Sun Probe 6. Operation Crash Dive 5. Terror in New York City 4. The Man from M15 3. The Cham Cham 2. Perils of Penelope 1. Atlantic Inferno
All the episodes are my Favourites episode i liked some I always remember the Rescue from Alan and Grandma whem staying on the Bridge in "Move and You re Dead"
Ah, the episode where the family get trapped under a burning skyscraper and the mole has to rescue them. God, I fancied Lady Penelope when I was younger, still do a bit if I'm honest. Those eyes!
F.A.B, you have got all of my faves! Honorable mentions should also go to City Of Fire, Thunderbirds Are Go: The Movie, Thunderbird 6: The Movie, 30 Minutes After Noon and Ricochet.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the rescue in Ricochet, with Alan desperately trying to rescue two men from a stricken space station. This was probably the most hair-raising of all rescues.
When I was watching the show in the sixties, I was convinced that Lady Penelope was the most beautiful woman in the world. (ex aequo with Dr.Venus fron XL5 Fireball)
