I'm so giddy and can't wait to get my batting from fatquarter shop only because they actually sell it pre-cut. 😮 I didn't know they sold it like this. Most of my blocks are 12.5" unfinished. I bought their 14" x 14" pre-cut batting. It's also in rolls of different widths, I bought the 2" width. I'm so happy and can't wait to try my hand at quilt as you go. I also wanted to share this just in case anyone is like me and didn't know this. 🤗

My 86 year old father asked me to make him a t-shirt quilt. He was a volunteer firefighter for many years in California. After each fire was put out they would make a t-shirt to remember the event. I am a confident seamstress but never attempted a quilt. I watched your t-shirt quilt video many times. It was the perfect guide. Thank you so much! My daddy was so happy 😀

Aussies are the best people . you guys are so kind and caring . Thank you so much. I love the internet for these purposes , meeting people from around the world that is just the best . I am not new to sewing , back in the day I used to make clothes at home for me and my family including a Prom dress . I cross stitch, water color , knit ,crochet , paper craft , color , as well as general crafting . I have yet to make a quilt , so the QAYG is perfect for me as I only have a small Brother quilting machine. I am just getting my mind wrapped around the process of starting one .

I am never going to make an entire quilt as QAYG... but I love the process and would love to see you make bigger sections that are out together for a quilt at the end. I have a long arm and an embroidery sewing machine. I prefer to quilt on my sewing machine with the hoops and big quilts are a strain. I can see quilting four bigger sections to make a bed size quilt with your method and since I love watching for entertainment ... I thought I would suggest a possible future project. I can take blocks and create a bigger piece with one-fourth the blocks and then make what would essentially be a big block and join it with your method. Thank you for sharing and for the binding video! I've never seen that before and it is great for utility quilts for certain.

I really appreciate and enjoy the videos you've been sharing in regard to QAYG techniques. One thing that continues to perplex me, though, is how to assemble all the smaller components of a QAYG into a larger finished quilt. I have an exceptionally small space in which to work and a few years ago I made two queen-size QAYG bed quilts. Making the small 10" components was a joy, but when it came to joining them together it very quickly became too difficult to assemble all those components in my own space. I wound up having to occupy space on someone else's dining room table for nearly a week to wrestle both beasts into submission and finally complete the projects. It was an arduous and painful task and I wound up straining my relationship with the person who's space I had used. I've seen many videos (not just yours) that demonstrate how to make and/or join small blocks, but I have yet to find a video that shows anyone actually FINISHING a large QYAG project. I'm really curious and look forward to seeing how you're going to join all your blocks and sections into the larger final piece.
@PatternPooleTV
@PatternPooleTV 2 года назад
Yes, making the small blocks are fun and easy. Joining them into a lap size quilt is easy enough but big quilts are definitely more challenging. You'll see joining larger sections in our Island Home quilt series as the quilt grows. This video shows joining a 60" square quilt together and gives tips on how to handle the quilt as it grows: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Comx-UlTemU.html

@@PatternPooleTV Thanks very much for the link. The methods you used are virtually identical to how I finished my two quilts (both 80"x100"). It was such a struggle I don't think I'll attempt to make another one quite so big. 😉 You make it look a lot easier than my own experience. I do look forward to seeing you assemble this quilt as well. Thanks again for all the great, informative vids!! ❤

I especially like all your fabrics which are so different from the ones here in the U.S. and so for the Island home quilt along I am using some of the Kaffe Fassett fabrics that resemble the aboriginal designs. Appreciated blanket stitch tip eg. choosing stitch that doesn’t go backwards before going forward, thank you. Also appreciated tip about ‘beginners & Enders’, also avoids thread knotting! Regarding ‘glueing’ to nest (align) seams - I personally would find this messy, time consuming & an unnecessary expense, my preference is to pin or use my finger tips. But like most things, personal preference is what’s it’s about. Thank you again for this tutorial, been very informative!

My machine is a Brother VM 6200D, it's now superseded but I'm sure that they have updated versions. I can't recommend an actual machine as there are so many to choose from but our advice is to buy a machine from a local sewing machine shop that has a good reputation. You'll get a warranty, help and advice and most times a free lessons on how to use your machine. All of the big brands are good such as Janome, Brother, Bernina, Juki, Baby Lock, Pfaff etc. Congratulations on your retirement!
