This was super cool to see, and loved the questions at the end of the video. Alot can be taken to the gecko world as well. We're down right now but there is no doubt we will come back stronger when the market comes back!
The ones that overproduced will learn the hard way and dial it back the next year. It’s not completely their fault because the demand was there but unfortunately the swing of economy made luxuries harder to obtain. Prices will fall (probably not much lower) production will slow and demand will catch back up because unique animals are still being sought after. Because of testing the industry will still be fast if not faster than ever regardless of smaller production numbers. The high end animals will continue to sell. The mid tier will move if the pricing or package deals are right and breeding projects desire those genes. The lower tier are basically affordable pets and will only sell if you market them enough. Most people have base genes like enchi, yb, cinnamon, fire, lesser, banana etc so unless it’s the right combination or paired with recessive genes or are undeniably beautiful those will be a hard sell unless you treat them like affordable pets. Do yourself a favor and look at genes on MM to see what things have been overproduced and avoid trying to produce some of those for a couple seasons. Stay passionate, breed more specifically and follow your own path.
I feel like the slow down is because there are some breeders out there like wilbanks that are simply trying to make and sell as many animals as possible by whatever means, over saturating the market. Posting 60 new animals every couple of days all year long is a bit overkill, in my opinion.
Willbanks doesn’t just sell as many animals as possible. He’s a known breeder that brings a lot of new combinations/morphs to the people. The main take away should be like Kibolka said, he’s been through 4 downturns already. It’s just part of the process. It’s supply and demand. Buy when everyone’s is fearful. Sell when everyone’s buying. That’s how most business works. Not just in reptiles/ball pythons
Wtf, I’m talking about bio security for the animals, nothing to do with my health. A colleague of mine had to euthanise his whole green tree Python collection due to a virus that was picked up by a visitor to his facility.
I totally get your concern, masks would probably be good as well for them to have, i can’t imagine that they didn’t allow them in that room without some sanitizing however. Just playing devil’s advocate. I do agree with you that there are a lot of people for these babies to be exposed to. 🤷🏻
If your immune system is so weak that you can not be in a large open room with 20 or 30 people, you have better get to the doctor quick! I mean, what do you never go to the grocery store or out to eat? God forbid you have to go to a school Christmas recital! Being in a cramped gym with a couple hundred parents and kids! You might not make it past the second verse of Jingle Bells before you break out in hives! 😂
