My walk-in floor is too wet, please hurry! ...was the service call at work on Monday, with the tech guaranteed to look at it sometime Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon, while discussing with my Assistant Manager, a cursory glance had me diagnosing it as a clogged drain line and/or failed condensate pump causing the drip pan to overflow. She swore it had to be the rooftop equipment, since we had the compressor replaced last year on a roughly 30-year-old system. Well, obviously she doesn't watch Chris' videos! The tech never showed on Tuesday, but claimed that he was there and found no problems. Then, on Wednesday morning, my Assistant Manager called the Franchise Owner directly to tell him that the tech never showed, and there was STILL water on the walk-in floor. Thursday morning (today) the other tech shows up (the one trained by the infamous Douche With A Toolbelt I've mentioned in many comments previously) and - well, what do you know? The condensate pump was fine, its sump was dry as a bone, and the PVC drain line was "clogged with calcium and algae clumps." He pulled the drain line apart, cleaned it, put it back together, and problem solved! (I swear, NOBODY listens to me... C'est la vie!)

I really like the way you do your videos. Very informative. Can you do a video on the sequence of operation for the defrost cycle on a wif with electric heaters? Also a video on wiring a defrost timer. Id love to work for you. You are a great teacher. The commute from delaware might be a little to far for me. Lol

Maintaining 30° doesn't really need electric defrost. I probably would have at least tried to go with a Ke2 Air defrost. Turn off all pins on the defrost clock. Set the air defrost on the KE2 for something like 8X25. I would be surprised if that system isn't oversized considering how narrow that box.

So why don’t you mount the temp sensor into the evap so you can shut unit down when it too cold so the evap not icy up? Do you need a defrost timer if you mount the temp sensor this way?

To convert to military time, if between 1am and 9:59am, put a 0 in front of the hour. If between 10am and 12:59pm, leave it alone. If between 1pm and 11:59pm, add 12 to the current hour. If between 12am and 12:59pm, change hour to 00. Do the opposite to convert from military time. I am a truck driver, we do everything in military time. I also used to work at a local TV station and we did things weird there. The log day started at 4am. So, from 4-11:59 was AM, noon to 11:59 was PM, then midnight to 3:59 was XM

I know there is normaly no ice in the side panel, but how are the wago connector performing in ice? Or is it the same as the wire nuts?
@HenryLoenwind
@HenryLoenwind Год назад
There is a tiny chance that expanding ice could push the clamp slightly open, but I doubt this will ever actually happen. And even if it does, as long as there's current flowing, any bad contact would produce heat and insta-melt the offending ice. With a wire nut, there also is that microscopic chance that ice could loosen the connection, but unlike a Wago, a wire nut is not self-tightening. There's a small difference in regards to water, as a wire nut is a cup while a Wago has openings on both sides (one for the wires, one for a probe). So it would be less likely for a Wago to be split from freezing water. Otherwise, I see no reason for a Wago to behave differently from a wire nut.

I'm not a tech but I like to be handy. My friends call me before they call a company for HVAC/power/plumbing/PC car etc and you are my hvac KB! I grabbed a tool at a yard sale for 2$ just to use as a project box maybe a month ago. I decided to use it last night but wanted to see what I was about to destroy/repurpose. It's. Sporlan SMA-12. After a bit of digging I see it's just a stepper motor driver/controller. I tested it with a motor from an old printer and it works perfectly. Now here is my question, how is a box I can make with $10 of parts valued at $500+?
@frustro4323
@frustro4323 Год назад
The only think I can think of is guided by a sticker that says CAL2, so maybe it's certified for use in medical/scientific/industrial and that is where the cost is?
@zack9912000
@zack9912000 Год назад
Because its is certified to work in the systems they are designed for. Yea, a person can Frankenstein it to work, but I can't count how many times these types of repairs cause major failures that myself and others have to clean up on a friday night. Just please don't do it. The "friend repairs" piss hvac techs off when we have to clean it up.
@frustro4323
@frustro4323 Год назад
@@zack9912000 ok so I guessed right, it's not the tool hardware so much as its value of vendor support, reliability and accuracy. Other than replacing the cap, a chattering/buzzing contactor, rodent damaged low voltage AC wire, thermostat or a fan/blower I leave the rest alone so you won't be cleaning up after me 😁
@frustro4323
@frustro4323 Год назад
@@zack9912000 I just wanted to let you know that your reply inspired me. You know it's been over 100 in South Texas last so I posted on the Nextdoor app for free service catered towards veterans, fixed income and low income single parent households. Since then I have been onsite 7 times and was able to resolve the problem with my rolling inventory. The last one yesterday was amazing. A 2 stage heat pump system was unresponsive. Killed main, flipped lid pulled the handle rotated on to off. Pulled main, 2nd inside thermo from wall and removed the batteries. Pulled the transformer in the closet. Outside the panel came off, the timer and state board , pulled it's connectors. Discharged the cap, always a blast right? Then grounded all the pins on the board and either O or W2 I don't give a shit really went CLUNK WHOOOHISSSSSSSSS. and I thought awesome, that was something not in a normal state. Went backwards to hook it up. 5:44pm house was 105 I left 6:19 house was 91. Handicap old man, fixed income and top 5 service providers in the market were not affordable or they were unavailable for 2 weeks or more. So screw you and your attitude towards scabs or friends.

Considering the dirty evaporator, I would consider you would have found an iced up evaporator on your arrival if the issue was your LLSV sticking open, would count as bleeding by and icing suction up to the compressor, this meaning is been happening for a while before you got there.

maybe they use the door a ton or put in product with lots of humidity/moisture and cause extra evaporator icing? that's what's nice about those defrost clocks, you can vary the defrost time length and move them around anywhere. granted the other style generally hold up and last longer.
