NW Ohio'an here. I LOVE the colder weather! I opened up the house the last few nights, get the inside temps down to mid-lower 60's, close up the house during the day, and right now, <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="214">3:34</a> PM, I come home and it is 67 in here.
My mail hummingbirds in northern Maine left in mid August instead of Sept 1st. The ladies and young ones are still here but I think they sense cooler fall but I have a lot of food source for them.
@CleeshoeArt This has been a pretty mild summer. Only 27 100+ degree temp days for central texas so far, I'll take that year every year. Last year, there was 80 total 100+ days, 2011 had 90 100+ total days.
It was Feeling like mid October from last night in southern Ontario Canada and northern Ontario Canada had frost advisory’s there which means the temperature was sitting around 0°C/32°F.
I’m here in Naperville IL it’s been beautiful all week 70-75 no humidity we are going to have a snow storms out of this world this fall and winter … I remember as a kid whenever it like this during August we got hammered with snow the following winter
I know, me too! Every time we've had a cool August, we've had a cold winter. Cool and stayed cool throughout the month, not just a wave. It's rare but I've seen it happen before.
Back in the 1960's we had some much cooler weather than we are having now. I can remember getting down in the 40's in August here in the. North Geogia Mounains.
49* on the North Cumberland Plateau (that separates Central and Eastern Tennessee) this morning. Loving it POW but mid 90s coming back - Thank you Sir, now we need rain more than ever.
here in upstate NY I've seen frost in the 3rd week of August. However, that was a long time ago, I expect of tough winter ahead. There have been many signs to indicate it.
Oh yes, Calgary Alberta Canada..cool and raining today..yesterday was quite warm….great for painting the fence....I think the mountains by Banff are getting a bit of snow…..time to clean up the yards I think…
Sipping coffee ☕ this morning <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="270">4:30</a>am and it was 48° here in the upper Midwest. I think Winter is going to be early and difficult. Maybe like 1978 snow. Keeping an eye out for more signs 🧐
What a great observation. I'm old and remember how all that developed for 1976/77 and 1977/78. And it started out with a cooler autumn pattern in late summer. Buckle, sink, lift, buckle, sink, lift. Both of those were harsh winters.
It's damn near impossible to believe that it's currently 79° in Ft Worth, Texas right now. This is a much-welcomed cool down though it is humid. Expecting 90s & 100s for this week. At least it's mot 110s again, we think. We'll see about that though.
Very nice today in lower South Carolina, cool with a breeze this morning. Our weather says back in the 90’s next week. So I’m going to enjoy it while it last
Ughh Torontonian living in Buffalo here. Has been a very tame summer in terms of heat, especially considering what was forecast. The heat is more of a novelty up here so I am really disappointed to hear that there will be unseasonably cold weather until the end of Sept. Was really hoping for a hot and sunny fall before the dreary weather arrives.
What the hell is going on with the weather this year? Massive flooding in Connecticut and Long Island, Increased hurricane activity, fall weather dipping in a full month early, intense summer heat showed up 2 months early in full force.... Earthquake in New Jersey that shook the entire north east, earthquakes happening everywhere all around the world, japan announcing the megaquake is due, northern lights were visible as far south as the carolinas.... Seriously, what the actual hell is going on, and why are no meteorologists noticing this? And don't tell me it's all because of climate change! There must simply be more to it than that.
I wish the omega blocking system would get lost. It was so nice in the south today after 100 plus degree heat. I looked at the forecast and almost 100 all next week, YUK! Come on fall!
I’m in Louisville, Kentucky and next Saturday through Wednesday the highs will be 91 on Saturday and over 92 on Sunday and 97 on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday! I don’t know what the temperature will be after next Wednesday but it should be in the low nineties or high eighties; it’s still summer until September 21 and there will be hot weather in Kentucky in September!
Great forecast pow looking forward to a cold fall and of course a snowy winter in south central Pa.Its been very unusual as far as the winter seasons are concerned here in this area,no snow that is major storms I remember quite well growing up in the 50’s.I miss the 4 seasons,they play a significant role in overall mood,and with this cooler weather it just takes me back when things used to be normal,thanks again for your great forecasting looking forward to the winter outlook you said you would soon have,good day to you!
Also Debby tampered in the East Gulf, both did not cause an upwelling that modified the above average (2-3 deg) SSTs, showing the Gulf is a powder keg. Also I believe we achieved unfortunately the all time record for highest avg. SSTs over the Gulf ever. @POW Ponder on Weather
