never would we have thought that there is so much to do on the atlantic crossing - we lost our new mainsail in the middle of the night and had quite some struggle to get it back up - check out how crazy it can get out there=)
Climbing up the mast in harbour on a still day is not an easy thing to undertake. Having to do it at sea, in the dark!! Amazing. You got it done though!
awww it was so shaky😂😅 especially if ypu only slept like a few hours before😂 next time we leave it for the morning😆 thanks so much💪🏻 hope to see you guys soon🤞🏼⛵️🏝
A lot of exiting moments in 13minutes of video! of course for me the highlight was when you put my name on the flag!!! You caress my ego by giving me the feeling I was there too in the middle of the Atlantic! Thanks for that! Much appreciated!
Thanks so much to you Dirk! Really thankfull that you are here with us on this amazing journey from the start! So glad you liked it and we wish you a great start into the week ⛵️
Ciao Alfredo! mille grazie! we found a few friends, will make a video about it in the future as a lot of people ask us how to find fellow sailors;) congrats on the best boat there is😜⛵️🏝
So funny - "here comes our squall !". On my last crossing of Biscay, I stopped counting when the number got to 40 - and they were all full of wind too.
ahaha we had the best of times, but the squalls never caught up...somehow lucky but somehow we would have loved to get one or two - a wash down of the boat would have been nice=) really happy it did not get to 40 though=) did you manage to escape most of them or were there some brutal ones?
@@WhenSailing 'don't think so. Each time one hit, wind went from 15-20 to 30-40 and kept loading up the steering and overloading the autopilot so many times. I hate them!
Wow, what an absolutely amazing adventure you both are taking us on. It's a first class ticket and I'll always fly with you. Outstanding balance of water and sky to bring another weekend to enjoy. Thanks for sharing your story with us that watch your channel.
Thanks Edward - this kind of feedback keeps us going and helps us to work all these hours behind our screens to record and share our stories! Really appreciate and thankful for it! Love to have you on board of For Tuna and if we ever give out tickets we will let you know🤗
@@WhenSailing tickets, yes I also am a sailor, certified to 32 feet. I'm in north Carolina USA but I am following your journey so embrace it ,its your for the taking.
yesss we hoped not to do that, especially in the middle of the night=) but a lot of sailors warned us that it might happen...luckily we had enough spare halyards and sheets with us=) thanks Richard! hope you had a great weekend!
What a nightmare 😱😱😱 climbing up to the top of the mast during navigating is really hard, but doing that in the night really incredibile!!! But you managed all these problems in a great way. 👏👏👏
Yees=) now in retrospect we would never do it again in the night=) you have all the time out there to wait but if you only sleep 3 hours you might not be fully awake to take those decisions 😅 thanks so much for watching and best wishes 🥰
Thanks Richard, yea totally! We hade a spare sheet and halyard for every diameter of rope with us just in case...turns out we more then needed those...had quite a few other sheets breaking down in the next vids😆 thanks for watching and have a great weekend!
Hi Tiago, most likely the single strands opened slowly due to high pressure and then the knot opened...really crazy how much force is applied on the sails during the whole duration...constantly under pressure and movement during the atlantic crossing=)
Were you hand steering all the daylight hours? How much solar is fitted and what was your daily deficit with the fridge running and autopilot? I’m trying to work out how much solar I can squeeze onto a 393!
Hi Duncan, we were mostly handsteering with high waves and wind - then at least 4-5 hours a day - on the normal days only 1 hour...we have about 600 watts of solars fitted but the batteries here are the problem, only 200 Ah and no lithium...have to change those asap...if you plan to do a crossing put them on port side;) more sun there as all the rest gets mainly blocked by sails etc...=)
@@WhenSailing I’m in the same position... I know I need a bigger house bank of LiFes, but it’s such a big job to replace everything all at once, to ensure reliability... alternator/regulator, belt & pulley, B2B charger, Big inverter/charger, battery monitoring, and that’s without the cost of buying the cells/batteries! Good luck!
Hi Randy⛵️ yea that was pretty incredible feeling 🤩 we had about 8-15 knots of wind, not really strong and the waves were quite favorable so no issues with autopilot or steering☺️ you wanna cross or did already?
remote working while on the boat;) if you want some more detailed insights we share financial monthly spendings in our discord community, for our patreons or youtube members😉🏝
nice, we are really happy with it, initially some software bugs but now it works really stable, great nightsailing mode too😜💪🏻 let us know what you decide for?
I have just found your channel and have subscribed. It is a pity that you haven't numbered the vids so will be difficult to watch in chronological order. Where do I start?
Aahh hi there=) awesome! we have the EP numbers only on the VLOGs, the story continues but some videos in between are special;) You can find the correct order in the binge watch playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLjD0e65AK2xi47HNOEp-4e69_Zh4_j4x4 happy you joined and let us know some feedback! always eager to improve 🙏
Hehe=) we are from north italy, a small german speaking region in the mountains near austria and switzerland=) german mother tongue but pure italians=)
Please don't tell me the shackle on the main halyard was not wired on. Also climbing the mast at night - crazy! Must but a reason but surely nothing would get worse before daylight. Curious if some tracking details of your crossing are available, to see what I might be up against very shortly.
Hi Ian, ahaha the know slowly opened - really crazy as single strands went loose untill the whole know came undone, will put a few detailed pics in the next videos...there is a tracking on whensailing.com with all the details of what happened where=) when do you start?
oh yea and next time we would also wait until the sun was out... at the end it took way longer during the night and loosing a few hours with motoring would not have been so bad in retrospect=)
@@WhenSailing Not sure when but in the next fortnight I think - and it will be single-handed AND possibly direct from Portugal. Chat more by Messenger (ridiculous story) ps sad to hear that a knot parted but at least, after the mousing trick you've learned for shackles, it was not that.
will go into more details of all that failed in one of the next videos, here the halyard knot opened up and the sail and halyard went down - quite a few more things happen with chafe, will put all the learnings together in a more technical video 🙌🏼
You will not catch me dead on ANY SHIP OR BOAT especially in the middle of the damn Atlantic ocean. Nope nope nope. I will fly across that ocean all day long. But I'll be good damned if it's on a ship or boat.
@@WhenSailing Nope nope. Just nope. That Atlantic ocean is EVIL. 100ft waves and that wind. Nope I'm good. I'll fly across the Ocean. I'll See you on the other side of the pond in about 8 hours. But i am not trying to reenact the Titanic.
Weiter gute Zeit an Bord ⛵🎣🍀🍀🍀
