The only "better" for "people" like that is when they're in a grave. He hid & waited for his mom to come home, which speaks to premeditated. That type of behavior doesn't fly in the US. If you take a life outside of a defense of self or others, you'll more likely than not going to do many decades in prison up to & including life without parole & death depending on the state & where victims were found. Watching this documentary just proves how backward Canada's thinking is, on many things.
Michael Stewart might be the deepest person I've ever witnessed. There is NOTHING superficial about him. He's not trying to gain anything in my pov. There is no reward. No angle. No motive. No manipulation. Everyone has to some extent, an angle. Every one. Not Michael Stewart. I hope he can find a sense of peace. I commend his family and respect them immensely.
I spent time in 2 psych wards at 3 different times and watching this doc makes re-live my stance at those places and they're just awful places. I feel for these poor souls.
@@disf5178 Yes, these hospitals fall into a routine of "l'm just here to make a check and go home" consequently they grow numb to the fact that these are human beings that deserve their humanity. But the overwhelm problem is the lack of science on the part of the doctors, Psychiatrists are in the science of "Guessing" all they do, day in and day out is guess what pills they show use on the patients, Oh! that pill made you more psychotic? ok, let's try this one. And unfortunately they don't know the chemical ramifications of the medications they're prescribing to these pour souls. They don't understand the extreme and deadly side effects and especially the horrific withdrawal consequences of the abrupt stoppage of these meds. Especially the Benzodiazepine family of drugs. These are deadly. Psychiatry as a science is in it's infancy, but the whole entire medical establishment treats as a thriving science. shameful!

I feel bad for all the patients. Mental illnesses are so difficult. You don’t want to believe your own mind but you can’t negate them sometimes. The negativity is so loud.
Great documentary and it is an eye opener too now I have a different opinion about mental health issues and feel more compassion. I wish these patients all the best of health!
I feel so sorry for Michael. There was a documentary about him he was very intelligent in school love sports he was involved with all kinds of different Sports. Of course he ended up getting sicker with the voices a n d killed his mother. His family really loves me. I think Michael just can't forgive himself for killing his mother and he thinks everybody in the world knows what he did. Eventually he does leave and has his own apartment. And his family visits and takes him places. My heart goes out to him I hope he can finally have a wonderful life
He murdered his mother and needs to stay in a forensic psychiatric unit for life. They feel better on meds but that is just it. They quit taking their meds then they are a threat.

I've been in a few mental hospitals or psych units, mostly through the Veterans Hospital. I have PTSD, MDD and GAD. Sometimes I overthink and ruminate. I get intrusive thoughts and start feeling depressed and anxious. I have been so hard on myself. I was recently in the VA Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN. I think that was the most helpful hospital stay. I got to talk with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, chaplains, and social workers. I saw someone everyday. Hospitals are not fun. It is hard to admit that you have a problem. I'm so glad that I understood that my mental health was declining and saught help voluntarily. It was beneficial. I'm glad I'm home, though. It's can be a depressing place, but after a few days with the right medication and getting to know other people going through the same thing it gets easier. There were only two women and ten men when i was on the psych ward. But there are less women veterans. Both of us girls behaved. I'm 55 and she was 63. I guess because were olderand both there for ptsd and depression that we were better behaved. And it was not forensics. Different circumstances. I feel bad for the young woman with self harm and suicide attempts. She needs unconditional love. I'm surprised at how much things that they have access to. We didn't have anything that we could hurt ourselves with. We also had to wear hospital pajamas.
I watched the doc and one nurse told a patient that violence brought them there. I put myself in a psych ward because my live in boyfriend was crazy and made me so crazy i needed a break.i did nothing violent. We were not given the luxuries that they had at Brockville. We couldnt go outside, we had cameras in our room. Fooling around with the opposite sex was allowed, like it was at Brockville. All of our belongings were locked up. Brockville seemed like a vacation spot compared to where i was. And they watch all your behaviour 24/7. I wanted out. They kept telling me i was thin and noticed i didnt eat a lot. I hate the fact that i had to constantly eat in order to get out. I wasnt in there for an eating disorder, anyways. They gave us all the same meds, which baffled me. I remember i brought my tea because i dont drink coffee. They wouldnt even let me drink my tea. We had every other drinks, though, but ive never spent the night anywhere without my green tea. That stuff keeps me alive and i needed it or else i couldnt go number 2. I was there on 2 occasions and the whole time i couldnt go, yet i had to eat all day while they watched me like a hawk. Brockville isnt as bad as the title suggests.
The woman is sick. She keeps trying to self-harm. It's really sad. She's fighting demons in her head. (Literally or figuratively, either way, it must be hard for her.) I feel for her caregivers. I know that she is challenging to work with. I still have compassion. Mental illness is hard.

Sometimes people with mental illnesses need to be approached like children. The simplistic way of life and rules help them to stay calm (most of the time) and be able to cope.
I do not see this as a "Great Job" by the Mental Health Center. I believe people have rights too, and to be harassed to show the world about there information doesn't seem right to me. I believe only If the law Is just. There are serial killers, child molesters and rapists In there... Noone documents about those guys though eh, BECAUSE OF PRIVACY?! They could SUE the hospital?! Thanks Government. Give me a break.
