Agree. I just sprung to add a second one to my wardrobe. I know I will get some good wear out of it. I also have a good collection of more fun button up shirts, but I find that I need some "plain Jane" shirts as well.
Two things I disagree with. First, a classic white fitted button up is timeless and classic. It may not be trending, but will NEVER be out of style. Secondly, classic high heeled pumps will never go out of style either. Again, flats may be trending, but if I am wearing dress pants, a non-casual dress or a pencil skirt, my Manolo or Jimmy Choo classic pumps will always be my go to. Thanks for your videos.
Count me in as someone who will not part with her heels, but I like that kitten heels are growing in popularity. I am always looking for some. I have small feet and because of trigonometry, a 2 1/2 inch heel looks and wears like a 3 1/2 heel. And since I wear heels everyday, comfort and function are important.
In my opinion, it's better to stay classy, chic but not boring. Trends come and go but a classy style will always be. Regarding the shoes, certain clothing you can wear with heels and others with flats, and I'm not talking about huge heels with platforms... so I'll say both are needed.
Two things I would love to see in your upcoming videos ...Can you find some slim straight options for those of us who can't/won't pay over $100 and preferably less? And what can we wear in place of shorts and sleeveless tops/dresses in summer? Many of us over 60 followers aren't comfortable showing upper arms and legs but still want to look stylish and be comfortable in warm weather. Thanks. Love your videos!
Never liked or wore baggy clothes, not attractive at all. So glad masculine clothes out… again never liked or wore. I love kitten heal. Great video as always.
I get discouraged by these kinds of reviews. I'm busty, but not "fat".. there are never any models with any kind of discernable bust! There wasn't one top in any of those images that I can wear. I'm on a tight budget (who isn't these days!) so tailoring isn't always possible.
To me, straight maxi skirts look "dumpy", and if the fabric is heavy, such as denim, they feel uncomfortable. Maxi lengths with the lovely flowing dresses you presented are lovely, however.
As a 55+ Kibbe FN cool winter who lost 117 lbs, I love stripes, texture and less tailored looks. I wear only straight, boot, or slim jeans. Cool colors only. Never baggy jeans or trousers, no pleats. Never shrunken tops, never crops, never mini skirts.Never high heels. I don’t care much what’s trending in or out, I wear what looks good for my body type.
My favorite is the first outfit you had on 🥰The oversized camel toned blazer, and there was a sweatshirt layered underneath it with another matching cream top… I can’t find any of those extra items, including the jeans and the boots in your descriptions. I saw the jacket but that was it. Can you please let us know where those other items Can be purchased? It’s so much easier for us to find the products when you categorize them as outfit number one, outfit, number two, outfit, number three, etc. because I’m not sure which jeans you had on, but I really liked the style. Thank you so much!
I know maxis are on trend and I think they look great on others. But they are just not great on me… I live in a snowy area that really almost nixes maxi length skirts for 6+ months of the year. Plus, I’m short and it’s more effort to deal with, often needing tailoring. The midi-length really goes well with vintage style if you lean that direction, which I do (although I also love classic “quiet luxury”).
Recently I heard an excellent clarification about trends vs. style. Trends are about changing fashion, while style is how we use clothing to present ourselves to the world. While it's important to note trends (or fashion) as they change, it's even more important to stay true to your style. Nothing brilliant or earth shattering, but this perspective helps frame our decisions.
Same! I’m slender and hourglass shape and baggy looks totally, totally awful on me. An unstructured blouse makes me look like I’m wearing a tent because everything just hangs off of my big boobs.
Most baggy clothes look crap on everyone. If you look at some of the examples here, the models are making the clothes look better buy creating shape like tucking in one side or placing a hand on the waist.
Love plain button up shirts. They are a staple for the wardrobe and never go out of style. Some of the variations are good. When they get too frilly they can only be styled in a certain way and are not as versatile
Wedges will probably be out this spring and summer, but it's the only decent heel I can wear. Ironically flats are more uncomfortable to me than wedges because they are so flat and offer not support. I'm probably the only one but a little platform in heel or boot makes a huge difference for me.
It all sounds good to me. I'm thinking we're still going to see pink in the mainstream. All the pink lovers bought as much as they could and they are definitely not parting ways with it. It may not be a trending color now, but I don't think it was a fad either.
Pink looks kinda delicious mixed with the peach fuzz tones in the right mix of textures.....( I really got into pink also and will have to "extend" the life of many of these purchases).....😊
I think if you are shorter, wearing a midi with tall boots can be very flattering. So many of us have figured out how to incorporate "out of style" pieces into cute outfits so I keep many of these items in my closet- they all come back eventually, right? * I never ever wore flat shoes as I am a chunky boot girl for life.
Many of us still wear the formal suits to work, so that will not go out of the corporate dress code for a while… but outside office of course. But formal suiting is still there for work.😊
As a pear shape with large thighs, I have been so frustrated trying to replace my skinny jeans, especially here in Italy where it's challenging to find anything larger than a US size 10. Classic straight and wide-leg jeans looked awful, but have found slim and bootcut to be much more flattering options. Just thought I'd share because I find so many of these trends challenging for those of us who are fuller-figured.
Theres nothing looks more classic than a lovely white shirt, an the trend situation well people should wear what they wish to wear, an really be their own person, instead of running about trying to dress the same, like honestly thats not an individual person is it.
I do not, and have never, enjoyed over sized clothing! No skin tight, just never find tight clothing acceptable. I like my clothes in classic proportions.
I feel like my legs are among my better features and so if I am going to wear a skirt (which I don't do all that often), it seems unfortunate to have it be so long that my legs are not being seen at all. And I also feel like a shorter denim skirt is more comfortable than a long one (which I think can start to feel almost like a hobble skirt even if it has a big slit in it). So i don't know that I am that happy about that trend.
I'm glad the oversized trend is going. Never could get on board with that one. Also happy to see flats in the spotlight. I like maxi skirts/dresses in light, flowy fabrics. In heavier fabrics (like denim) I think the midi length is more comfortable. Great video, as always, Jamie! ❤
I really like the revamped Chanel style “lady jackets”. Just goes to show how styles come back. I think the bows style is juvenile. At my age, I would feel like Haley Mills in “Pollyanna” wearing hair bows and bows on my clothes 🎀🎀🎀
Maxi length dresses and skirts are difficult for petites. As are midi-lengths. I wear all lengths of skirts, but most of my dresses and skirts are between mini and just below the knee. I have a few maxi length skirts and dresses that I absolutely love. There are days when I just feel romantic and love a flowy ankle length skirt. But they don't look the best on me (I'm 5'1").
I will still love Fuschia....just a few pieces; made in a loose modern knit; looks great with navy; white ,black and grey and certain blues. Those are my base colors as it stands
I AM 5 FT 1 IN. Maxi skirts eat me up. Midis are a little longer than mid calf on us shorties, and they look best, rather than maxis. The exception is a sleeveless or halter-top summer maxi dress that doesn't have a lot of fabric. And as for me, I wouldn't wear a pair of ballet flats or loafer if you paid me. I am too short and look like I'm standing in a hole. Give me at least a 2 inch heel to feel and look good in my clothes. Love your videos.
what bothers me about flats being in style is that platform/chunky is out and the low-profile is in... yet I feel like a statement sole lends itself to wider-bottom pants. so I'm kinda disappointed that wide leg is supposed to be paired with shoes that practically disappear... it feels out of balance
Free People is sending me lots of emails with that bright Barbie pink all over them. I know they do what they want & aren't about trends, but in my next life I'm going to be a tall skinny Free People model who thrives in their flowy, feminine boho clothes so I'm still embracing the color while pretending I'm that young and cute. LOLOLOL
ha ha, I am 79 years old and love Free People clothes. I always get xs size and only wear one big piece of clothing, on top or bottom. Always get compliments, because their stuff is so unusual.
Excellent video as always. Just ordered a hot pink hooded zip sweatshirt. The color may be out but I loved it's brightness and at my age I wear what I like, within reason, and leave the trends to the young'uns. 😊
I love a denim skirt and have 2, a knee length and a midi that looks great with knee high boots (I think so, anyway) but the maxi denim (to me) looks very Big Love. Thrilled that more femine styles are coming back...love a good bow moment.
My take away from this is I am glad I do not follow the trends. A good white shirt will never go out of style, but it should not be one that is super fitted. A maxi skirt is not for everyone. Petit people are overwhelmed by this look, and as someone who is all legs with a short waist this is way too much fabric for me. You would think that longer legs would be able to pull this look off, but the short waist makes the proportions way off. Never been a fan of the huge blazer jackets on women. It makes us look like we are playing dress up with our mothers clothes. However, we all have our own tastes in clothing. There are women out there that pull off any look and look great. I know from years of trial and error and being a recovered fashion slave that I am not one of those women and my wallet thanks me. Thanks for the video, and at the end of the day, wear what makes you happy.
I agree with most of your comments. Personally, I couldn't be happier for the "sneaker trend". I never liked the masculine look in women's fashion. Regarding midi/maxi: I like both, but being petite, I think midi length works better. Maxis (depending on fabric) can look overwhelming on me. PROPORTION is super important for petites. That oversized look never worked for me.
Fellow petite here. Agree about the oversize look not working for petites. It simply doesn't. What's worse is that when that's the fashion, the smaller sized among us run out of options. One cannot size down from a size 00. I learned how to sew specificaly so that I could alter clothes to fit.
I should brush up my sewing skills at least for minor alterations. I love that I am petite. There are always ways to adapt a “look”. In addition to the ripped jeans, I never thought the cold-shoulder tops were particularly flattering. Thankfully, they came and went fast. I don’t exactly hold to monochrome dressing, but I absolutely like a pop of color.
Sort of disagree with you on some of your points. I do not consider my staple classics as boring. They are the bones of my wardrobe. I buy trends to update the basics.
Fun video. ❤.. I feel so flat in flats., although I think they look great on others. I'll stick to my sneakers depending on what Im wearing. I think high heels look best. I had a man stop me just the other day and I was wearing jeans with high heels...he said: "I wish my wife dressed like this". I told him thank you, but not to be too hard on your wife because they'll come off as soon as I get home. "...lol. Edit: I just purchased a silk pink top, and it's not going anywhere.
Never liked and never understood why beautiful women want to look frumpy. With the oversized clothes.Even these young girls looking masculine. More than even a man doesn’t wear. I’m 66 and we went the flower power stage and then leather pants. As a teen Palozzo pants were in. But I just wore my t shirts and blue jeans. That will ever go out.
Hmm Im very torn with this video because with the exception of the overly baggy clothes and the barbie pink.. I wouldnt set any of the so called out of style items aside- plain jane shirts regardless of silhouette is a staple in most people’s closet and it pairs nicely with the so called traditional suiting, kitten hills maybe the in thing but moderate high heels still looks beautiful paired nicely with so called suiting thats out of style.
I never bought anything in the oversized trend. It looks ridiculous on me, I’m just too small, especially in the head/face, hands and feet. I like clothes with shape, not huge boxy ones, which are so unflattering. I don’t understand why brands are still pushing this trend after five years, certainly everyone who was interested has already tried it, and moved on. Classic cuts became classic for one reason: they look good on virtually everyone. I’ll stick with those. I never liked the late 90s-early 2000s, “shrunken” cuts either, brands just get desperate to sell more and so come up with these weird silhouettes to make us feel out of style. Classics forever!
Beautiful hair as always Jamie! I agree with most of what you say. I know the bright pink is going out so I will wear it with another color like blue, grey or black instead of head to toe. Although maxi is in, the longest I can go is a long midi since I am only 5 feet high and I just don't have enough inches to support something a bit longer. That's what is nice about the trends. Sometimes they work out and sometimes we work around them. Thank you for all your hard work in making these. They are so fun and I always look forward to what you share!
Maxi Jean skirts are reminiscent of modest religious teens trying to feel trendy within their clothing constraints. I don’t care for overly obvious intentional styling in which it looks like you tried too hard. (not effortless). The button down oxford with one tail tucked is exactly what I mean. Two years back, fedora or straw type hats placed on the back of the head, placing scarves on your purse strap, the stencil hyper pronounced brows, lip filler fish lips etc. One particular older 50 year old influencer is overly trendy all the time and often does videos with her older friend who is supposedly in her late 60’s but has had so much work she appears younger then the 50 year old. They look like mommy and me who should be on a set of one of the ‘Housewives’. The looks they present feel desperate to be seen and noticed in an adolescent way.
I agree! I'm in my 70s and have always been fashion forward. I dress in a classic but modern way. I evaluate each trend in a realistic way and eventually buy items that I feel good in, fit my figure, and look good on me! I am 5' 2", 117 lbs and have a large chest. I can wear midi skirts, not maxi's, and I can't wear anything too tight on top. Nothing too oversized on and having a short torso I can wear a lot of cropped sweaters and tees! My advice is to have fun with the trends when you're older and dress like you've made an effort!
I bought a lot of Barbie Core Pink, and this is the second 'what's going out of style' video that has said it's going out. Sometimes, when a trend hits really hard like this color, it will always now be related to Barbie 2023. (insert sad face emoji here.)
Yes, just mix your pink pieces with other colours and textures to avoid the Barbie core pink on pink. I bought A LOT of pink too this last season😊 oh well! we will fit right in with the feminine look!!
I said this too! Or rainy weather or mud or 😂. They can look so pretty, I’ve just rarely felt comfortable in them unless maybe it’s mild and sunny and then they will probably still be too long for me and I might trip anyway 😅
Great video! I love both, maxi dresses and midi and I am glad the baggy oversized styles are not trending anymore. The most important part of anything you wear is really the color. If it is not aligned with your True Color Type, no perfect fit or fabric will make up for that. It is the next big trend: custom color analysis and no more generic color analysis like the Seasonal Color Analysis.
I agree with all of the trends you said were leaving. Oversized adds weight; no matter which way you style it. This style suited the super thin. Legs in jeans need to be a little bit relaxed, and jeggings are not pants. I have seen too many backsides; some were brow raisers and in poor taste. Kitten heels are always a nice look.
You explained everything I need to know for my next purchase. I agree with all you have said, except I'm only 5'2" and I don't wear flats. Great info. Thank you.
Here is what I think as a former trend prediction professional: Oversize jackets - hate them - most people don't know how to wear this - so they just look sloppy. I've been buying exquisitely fitted longer vintage jackets and wearing them with jeans or walk shorts or pencil skirts (hemmed just above the knee). Tailored shirts are classic. Midi skirts are not flattering as it cuts the leg at the widest part of the calf - I haven't worn this length since the last century. A very long skirt is romantic and mysterious. There will always be a time and place for heels. I wear a kitten heel when I need "lift" (I'm tall) and I own many pairs of ballet flats - slip them on and off you go - looking polished. Skinny jeans - OUT and they can stay there - too many people bought too small a size and then all their "humanity" shows. I prefer a high waisted pant with a very slim silhouette and a bootcut in a quality denim that has stretch - makes legs look long and lovely and flattering and forgiving to your figure. I'm not about being trendy, but about looking as good as possible without having to constantly go out and buy more "stuff" - and buying more stuff is what the fashion business wants you to do!
Trends, if you’re over 30, need to be worn with careful attention to your proportions. My 21&18 yr old daughters can wear anything. On me, at 50 lots of trends look clownish. But when I bring a trend into the right proportion, I can wear almost any trend I like.
I do wear the new skinny jeans, and I do like the fact that blue is a trending color. I'm goth, so most of my clothes are black. Not a fan of peach or pink whatsoever. I do like green and purple though. Personally, I don't care for trends. You wear what you like, and forget the trends. (Jan Griffiths).
I follow the Kibbe system inmchoosing styles for my body...I am Theatrical romantic and I follow my own color classification I am a Spring. Im a golden blonde with tourqouose eyes so my neutral colors are cream, straw,a warm beige, cognac brown. I stick to what works for me for basic clothing I sprinkle in sparsely some trends.
