It would be nice if every adversary operated to the beat of our drum machine, scanning every port at 0000 UTC every night. Unfortunately, life and strategy dictates variance to schedule. Yet, these variances can occur over interesting patterns that themselves act as clues. In this talk, I'll be using GreyNoise's and Hunt.io's time series features, alongside formal time series analysis methods such as seasonality analysis to investigate scan and host behavior. We'll even look at behavior around holidays to see if adversaries get out of their head when we're not around.
