Michael Arden is honestly so underrated! Such a shame they didn't wanna bring the show to Broadway because hiring a choir is "too expensive" apparently.
@@princepeterwolf Not Disney, it was one of the actor unions that had to pay for them. Since the choir counted as part of the cast, they'd need to be paid.
I see nothing but praise for Arden, I really wouldn't say he's underrated. A real shame about Broadway, though, but it luckily it has its following worldwide anyway, and that's awesome.
@@KeepCalmContemplateYourChoices eh, uh no. The union didn't agree with Disney's attempt to exempt the choir from the bargaining agreements negotiated with broadway performers. Disney wanted to pay the choir less since they were "background performers". The union protects the working class people of Broadway from the corporate titans like disney that want to shortchange artists of a living wage.
I love Tom Hulce, but Michael Arden took an already iconic performance, and did it beautifully in his own way. I actually like seeing his voice matched to the clip. It provides a slightly different experience where you can see the animated version, like in the musical, showing Quasi as deaf to everyone else, but then you hear his internal thoughts clearly. My poor heart, though. T_T
First... Off the different singing seems to have more emotional punches. Like Quasimodo I feel his pain more in this edit, the original was powerful too, yet like the breathing or struggle to at points, shows his anguish. Second thank you for making this. Third, Frollo speaking in original and sing different, I admit was taken back a bit at first, yet that is only XD I was reading the description at the same, like a quick scan, and then found out the difference. XD Good day to everyone.
Yeah, I wasn't sure whether to add both Frollo and Quasimodo's original voices either because of that, but I wanted to "remind" people of the original voices a little bit too. Also, at the beginning with Frollo's voice, I didn't want to cut away the instrumental beginning of the song and to just have nothing there so to speak seemed just as odd to me xD
This is awesome!!! I hadn't heard this other version before, I like the performance. The thing that stands out to me is that Quasi's voice sounds a lot... older.
Yeah, it's weird but I think it's because the actors back then played Quasimodo as older than he actually was so they did it the same way here, I'm guessing.
This is from the theatrical version (like an actual musical). There's songs from this movie and some original. It is actually more faithful to the book.
I had no idea this musical even existed. I'm from the US and I guess this was more popular in other countries. It's so beautiful and thank you for making this! Now I have a new musical to get into =)
I wouldn't say this was necessarily more popular in other countries xD I mean, the Danish version did get 26 times 5 stars and is considered one of the best musicals in Danish history, but I can't speak for other countries xD
I'm from Hungary, and I didn't like our version at all. I saw the full performance of Notre Dame with Michael's Quasimodo here on youtube, and it was a love for first sight. Amazing. :')
@@airachica hahaha I know 😂😂😂 so, thank you! I've been obsessed with Michael Arden's Quasimodo since the cast recording came out and I can't believe it took me so long to find this. Thank you for making this!
I hope Disney doesn't give into the Frozen demographic and has the balls to cast Michael Arden or Joshua Castille instead of Josh Gad (no insult to Gad, he's an amazing performer, but not Quasimodo material).
I have done another one so far, "God help the outcast." I'll probably do more, but I can't say when because it's not the most interesting editing after all xD
1:40 Safe behind these windows and these parapets of stone Gazing at the people down below me All my life I watch them as I hide up here alone Hungry for the histories they show me All my life I memorize their faces Knowing them as they will never know me All my life I wonder how it feels to pass a day Not above them But part of them / And out there Living in the sun Give me one day out there All I ask is one To hold forever Out there Where they all live unaware What I'd give What I'd dare Just to live one day out there / Out there among the millers and the weavers and their wives Through the roofs and gables I can see them Ev'ry day they shout and scold and go about their lives Heedless of the gift it is to be them If I was in their skin I'd treasure ev'ry instant / Out there Strolling by the Seine Taste a morning out there Like ordinary men Who freely walk about there Just one day and then I swear I'll be content With my share Won't resent Won't despair Old and bent I won't care I'll have spent One day Out there
This isn't me singing... This is Michael Arden, he was cast as Quasimodo in the official musical version of The hunchback of Notre Dame. But I'm sure he'd appreciate your compliment x'D
Would you be willing to do something like this for Heaven's Light & Hellfire as well? I understand you have other ideas to see through, just offering another creative suggestion for you. Take care. :)
Some songs are heavily copyrighted, others aren't. This might give me a strike at any random time in years, it also might not. Copyright rules are really fickle 🤷♂️
I did that a couple of years ago, but unfortunately it was almost immediately taken down due to copyright. I have no idea why since this video was never taken down 😅
I hope if Disney will decide to create a live action of this film they will not butcher it like what they did on Snow White. Like gender swapping Quasi into a female.
Well, I usually do these whenever I feel the urge to and Hellfire was probably gonna be next. I can’t say when, but I promise the next one will be Hellfire :)
I tried to, but RU-vid IMMEDIATELY blocked it worldwide due to copyright issues. Short of pitching the song and making it sound like a chipmunk, I can't get it public. And I figured that'd ruin the point of the video anyway so :/
