I really like the Kodak. Except for really cold weather, it provides excellent protection. The stampede string is great, and I think a necessary accessory!
Enjoyed the review. I have the summer version that has some kind of a mesh on the virticle sides. Got it for the Middle East job in 2013-2015 for temps around 125+ and it would be smoking when I went inside. It was awesome. Didn't know about the Duck Back Dressing until tonight, I'll be ordering it soon though. I have not done any extreme wilderness runs but it is the hat I'd take with me when I do. It has held up well and I love it.
Dude thank you for doing such an amazing video! So very true about the heat in the summer time. I was contemplating getting there mesh style one. But dammit why can't they just make a hat that gives great vents for the summer that can get covered up threw out the rest of the year XD 😆 Hahaha. Oh well I guess I'll have to make my own hat company one day. But yes man you video had some great info in it and you explained it perfect. I look foward to watching more of your videos. Take care and cheers!
I own the Grizzly another oilskin hat, love it. I also own own Outback's Moonshine hat which is a canyonland hat. The Moonshine is also waterproof. It's a superb spring, fall & winter hat.
You can order the reproofing oil from outback company and re oil your hat. It will be like new. I own a Kodiak, Korona, and wagga wagga,.....I love their hats for outdoor use like fishing, etc.
Thanks for the info Mountain Man, I think my hat could use a reproof at this point! They certainly make some great stuff, I have one of their vests and love it.
@@naturenate7117 most cowboy hat/leather shops will have a steamer. Boot barn does it for free though. They couldn’t save my old felt hat though. So I guess they aren’t as skilled as a leather/ horse ware shop. Thanks for sending me down the hat rabbit hole
Hi Kyle, I own two of their Grizzly hats, it is the same as their Kodiak however with a different hat band. Being as the Grizzly and Kodiak have a metal wire in the brim helping hold its shape, steaming the edges will not help anything. Yes, these are fantastic hats, but throw it in the backseat drop it on the floor, and the like, the brim becomes bent, you will spend time straightening the brim to your liking. When I wore the Grizzly (again same as the Kodiak), often my wife would tell me "Your hat looks goofy fix the brim." Though I like both Kodiak and Grizzly, for my use I switched to their River Guide hat. It is crushable and bounces back, does not have a wire in the brim. The River Guide hat quickly became my EDC; yes, it is Oilskin as well. Also, I own their Duster, I am very pleased with their oilskin equipment. Now have my eye on their Sage colored River Guide hat.
I can guarantee you havent had that hat as long as you claim, wearing it in the conditions you claim for as long as you claim...you hat looks brand spanking new as compared to my hat.
