I am an ex Formula one powerboat pilot, I won the South African championship 1975 they 1979 using a home built tunnel hulled unit with a Mercury V6 motor. In 1975 /6 there was a 200 mile endurance race called the Rand Daily Mail News race around a 5 mile course, Evinrude had entered their 4 rotor motor piloted by Johnny Sanders and Jimbo McConnell this unit was very fast, came the race day the mechanics filled the fuel tank to the brim, well the race was a clock start and the 4 rotor outfit could not get on the plane, forcing the pilot to go around the whole course at no speed at all, the 4 rotor was overheating and they withdrew from the race, which I won in the end😢😢
