Outboard Smoking, Overflowing With Oil!? Oil Sensor Replacement On Yamaha 115 2 Stroke 

Question for you sir...and your video totally helped me.Thank you!! I have a 2003 Yamaha Vmax 150 2 stroke Hpdi. My new oil gauge level assembly will arrive tomorrow. I will install it. And new plugs....I did however while on vacation and after watching your video, take the assembly out and clean it, and the plug in. It was a stuck float which caused the upper reservoir to overflow, as It stayed within the arrows and did not overflow again or smoke after I cleaned it. My question is, the alarm was still going off while idling around the lake. Motor is peeing fine. No smoke. No motor disruption. Ran great at 50+ mph for extended time....never heard an alarm or did it ever smoke. I do plan to change the spark plugs tomorrow when I get the new oil level gauge assembly, but why is the alarm still going off. Oil level is staying within the arrows, and it runs fine otherwise. I don’t have any reason to believe the impeller is bad as it pumps fine. Is there an alarm reset? ??? Thank you for your help and response...... Shaun-

One of the best 2 stroke ever made. Think you can test the old oil sensor by lifting it in the reservoir. If working it should fill up and sound the alarm without needing a multi meter. Just a thought.

Nice video. I have a 1994 Mercury 135 2 stroke that has those hard starts from too much oil. In my case, I think my oil injector or a check valve is bad, allowing too much oil to saturate the fuel from gravity pressure while it sits. I am so used to those hard, smoky starts though haha!

There is a cheap workaround which will keep you boating until and if you decide to get a new sensor. If you locate the power wire that runs from the onboard fill tank to the Motor fill tank and cut it and put a cheap toggle switch you the convert the automatic fill to a manual or automatic fill. I have run mine that way for a number of years. If ever it gets too low when you forget to fill the on motor tank the low alarm sounds.

Hi Brother, thank you so much and my DT225 recently smokes a lot, but still get WOT and drink oil let mad (2.5 ltr oil on 40 ltr fuel) . I ll check my oil sensor first for fault.

Just a side note but the oil injection system will also over oil if air gets in the fuel line.

So when you replaced the sensor did your tank fill when the key was turned on or does the motor need to run for that to switch on? Same issues but upon checking the sensor it passes continuity testing

When I removed my sensor there was a rubber seal on the lower end of the sensor i didn’t see that on yours it might of fell off in the tank. I’d check the parts diagram to see if yours has it also cause the seal would be floating around in the tank

Hey there. I was wondering if you have ever experienced hard cold starts with your motor. I just bought a new to me boat with a 130 2 stroke and first start takes forever. I pump the bulb, choke the motor and bump up the throttle but it takes LOTS of cranking to get her to start. Once it has ran for a minute, it will start right up all day but the first start is a bear. Just looking for any advice you might have for the magic to get it to start cold.

hey there i have the same problem, i have oil everywhere but my tank is low oil, when i starte the motor the oil coming back to the tank

I have the same issue with my outboard, but it also has oil pouring out of the carbs
