This project is a pretty simple one. I bought this Outdoor Tool Storage Shed for my yard tools. In this video I'll unbox it, assemble it and stage it in place on the side of my house.

How long does it take to build?
@BigLousWorkshop
@BigLousWorkshop 2 года назад
@@garyvaldez6181 Well for me it took longer cause I was filming and had to do a bunch of site prep. It was really simple and very straightforward. I would still plan on a solid 4 hours, however it really depends on how proficient you are at following plans.

I am 59 years old, thought I would have to bribe my son's to help put this shed up, but after watching your video, I now know exactly what I have to do, and I can do it all my self ! Very good video, the ending with the twin you yapping, was funny. I am inspired, I bought 2 of these Suncast sheds from canadian tire last week, I have the knowledge and confidence to go outside and start putting them together.

Loved the video. The shed is that easy to put together. Just a tip from snowy Michigan: Put some 1or 2 inch blocks under the floor. Then set the shed on top. If you get snow, and the shed isn’t raised up, your doors won’t have clearance. Once raised, you’ll be able to get the snow shovels out.

The place tou put it os going to cause a water drainage problem over time. The roof shed is taller than the window. If the window is open you can get water in your house too. I'd suggest finding a different location.
@BigLousWorkshop
@BigLousWorkshop Год назад
Thanks so much for the feedback... but it's been there through more than a few massive storms and no issue with drainage. Also, I never open that window (or any windows really, it lets the AC out!!). The overhang from the eaves is more than enough protection from direct rain!

Awesome video it definitely will help me as I just purchased mine today waiting for it to get shipped! I had a question, I’m trying to see if I can store a bike or 2 tops inside this shed. Do you think it’s possible to hang a vertical bike rack? Think it’s sturdy enough?
@BigLousWorkshop
@BigLousWorkshop 3 года назад
First... thanks so much for the comment and feedback, I appreciate it... Second... I honestly have no idea... I have not owned a bike in over 30 years LOL. I think it would depend in how the rack is mounted to be honest. If it was designed to hang on the wall, then maybe, cause there are places to mount shelving brackets, anything other than that would need more expertise with mounting bikes than I have. Wish I could be more help!

Do you think a normal size push mower would fit inside this shed? We just bought it (the shed) and have not assembled it yet, I’m nervous it may not fit length wise. Your thoughts?
@BigLousWorkshop
@BigLousWorkshop 3 года назад
Most push mowers have the ability to have the handles fold up for storage... if that's the case with yours you should be fine... it's got more room inside than images appear.

Thanks for sharing. How long did it take to assemble?
@BigLousWorkshop
@BigLousWorkshop 2 года назад
Well to be fair I was filming while putting it together so it was not a good example of how long it takes... but if I wasn't filming I'd say it would probly take 2 hours or so depending on how proficient you are with following assembly instructions, and puzzles. It was really pretty simple, with the most difficult thing being getting the doors to line up. I hope that helps!!
@Squidy17

Big Lou, just a question about the base. Is it really necessary? Was looking at the installation guide online and it says either wood or concrete base. Is that really needed? Thanks!
@BigLousWorkshop
@BigLousWorkshop 2 года назад
Thanks for the question… I can only speak for my particular situation and because I was putting it on a foundation that was of different elevations I wanted to build it up so that it was completely flat which is why I did the base the way that I did. The bottom of this shed is plastic so it’s only going to be as strong as whatever foundation you’re putting it on if the ground where you’re putting it is solid and firm then go for it. Other people have risk of very High winds and need a solid foundation to secure the shed to so that it doesn’t get blown away in a tornado or hurricane … I hope that helps!!
@Floridaboiler
@Floridaboiler 3 года назад
Aren't you worried that the Florida Thunderstorms will blow the shed over?? I have thought about getting one for my house but I am wondering how to anchor it to keep it from flying away.
@BigLousWorkshop
@BigLousWorkshop 3 года назад
Not in this case... the place where I have it is pretty sheltered from the high winds we get with big storms... I've had trash cans and things of that nature along this same side of the house and never had an issue with them flying away!! That being said, this unit has holes in the back and bottom for bolting it to an existing building or a secure base. The instruction book has a whole section on building a base for it.

I don't see that you anchored it. How will you prevent it from blowing away. It is pretty light. I have 3 I would like to put outside but I am c9ncerned about how to anchor them
@BigLousWorkshop
@BigLousWorkshop Год назад
the location I've put mine is pretty well protected from big storms and I've got it loaded down with really heavy stuff so I'm not really concerned about it blowing away. However... there are places in the floor and in the back wall for mounting anchors to.

I got that shed too. I spent, literally, all day on it and it's not complete. Why? Because nothing was aligned. The side was bowed so i couldn't fit the left side in correctly. The bottom latch doesn't go through the hole provided and the right side hinges don't wrap around the designated area so the screws don't go all the way in. What a freaking nightmare! And I bought 3 of those and don't even want to open the other boxes.
@BigLousWorkshop

Oh nooooo… that’s horrible!!! Sadly every batch of injection molded material is gonna have a few bad apples, but they should be caught by the Quality Assurance folks before they leave the factory. I’m sure the other ones you have are fine, but then again I have been accused of being overly optimistic at times!! That sucks, I’m really sorry that happened to you!!

@@BigLousWorkshop Thanks for your empathy Lou. I'm going back outside today to try to get a roof on. I'm no stranger to assembly either, but really don't like these illustrated instructions. I just need to get this over with and get DANCING!! Have fun and thanks for the video! Blessings

The same can be said for wood a shed!! This style of storage is not really utilized for its security features but more so I don't have rakes and shovel's laying around the yard out in the elements. If security is an important feature to you then there are tons of other options for outdoor storage!!

Brother believe me I tried to show as much as I could... it was LITERALLY not possible to show how the hinges snapped on with enough space to put my camera tripod! Let me know if you have any other questions about the roof and I’ll be more than happy to answer them for you

I was able to figure out the hinges with the manual and trial & error. But I had to come to this video to figure out where the EFF that metal strip attached to the roof, so thank you for this video Big Lou! I'm considering using a caulk gun and gorilla glue tubes to glue caulk every place where it attaches and all the little crevices for added structure integrity. I'm also in FL and the last thing i need is a thunderstorm blowing this baby down ;)
