squidylol it’s really all based on personal preference. People say that they like blues for typing, reds for gaming, and browns for typing and gaming. Or people just like the blue switches because they have a higher actuation force or because they like the sound that the blues make. It’s all really based on personal preference, so I would suggest you try them out wherever y can and see which one you like better. The reds are silent and linear, the blues are tactile and loud, and the browns are tactile and silent. Just try all them out and see which one you like best. Best of luck :)
I can't gauge the actual loudness from a video. If I bought a board with blues, in a room with the door shut would they be that audible in a room directly across the hall? Trying to figure out if they be passable to use late night without waking up my roommate.
I have to say: At 2 minutes in; already A for effort! (with the blue/brown/red background papers). After 7 minutes: I'm leaning towards the browns, but I'm at 69/420 RU-vid videos to watch before I make my decision .
This might be useful for others searching for a new keyboard: I bought the Riotoro Ghostwriter Prism RGB (Cherry Brown switches) for €85/$95. I've only been using it for a couple of days now, but I'm quite happy with it. edit: My search criteria were: - Numpad - Backlight (solid or RGB) - Brown switch (brand didn't really matter) - Mostly postitive reviews (- Media keys) - Available in Europe (otherwise Redragon was a good option)
@@ZentoraMAIN I would say the browns are almost as quiet as reds (compared with blue). If you like a small bump (it's not really a click), then yes: go for the browns!
i think this is the first comparison vid where i've been able to clearly hear the difference between the switches. thank you very much for your helpful vid!
I have the brown switches for this keyboard, i put o-rings on it and also put tai-hao rubber keycaps on WASD and it feels smoother with a lighter sound
@@SubscribersWithoutAnyVid-sg9pt ah, I see. Then that means if I have blues I dont need to switch to red or browns just to have quieter switches? Wonder if it affects tactile feedback tho
I've tried all the switches and i find browns the best. Red feels like membrane and i dont feel it fully pressed, seems hard to trigger for me. Blue is okay but its kinda too loud and it has a weird click. Browns are awesome as they are universal and pressing them feels crispy.
@@falc0n2222 I don't have brown switches, but I do have tactile switches (Durock T1 switches with clear housings, 67gram springs, lubed, custom built 60% 64 key keeb). In my own preference the tactile switches are the best for me - i wouldn't even mind brown switches, i'd just lube them up, tune the stabilizers and have a great fun typing/gaming/whatever. Clickies are ok, but too obnoxious and loud in my opinion. Linears have their place, but they are not for me either - i'm missing the feedback of actually clicking something. I've had some bad examples of Gateron Yellows - they were waay too sensitive for my liking, just by a small little tap the switch activates (I believe that they are not supposed to be like that, borrowed some from friend to try out) But either way, the mechanical keyboards are not objective, they're all subjective - whatever you feel is best for you, go for that!
As someone who types 140 words per minutes and games for hours, the cherry browns are my favorite. They’re not extremely loud and they feel very tactile and responsive.
finally got myself an outemu brown switched keybaord, and i've never regretted my decision in my entire life! thank goodness for this video, i heard the switches beforehand
@@andresbardagiinchaurrondo8763 they will be the same. the blues are the clicky ones. you can use o rings on any of them to keep them from bottoming out which quiets them down and is somewhat of a shock absorber for people w/ arthritis (me).
I love looking up odly specific videos in this case "outema browns" and not only getting the exact type of video that i wanted but an even better one with all keyboard switches (main ones at least).
Thank you for having the colored paper these youtubers that compare switches are confusing to follow but this was a great vid with all the information I needed
Browns are my favorite by far. I'm curious about those exotic keys like black and speed, etc. I don't know if Outemu has those yet but that's fine. I'll stick with Browns.
I've been shopping around and comparing various models of sub-50-dollar mech keyboards, and a couple of your videos have been really helpful! Keep making the high quality content. Subbed!
While I'm a fan of blue switches (and also owned some older linear MXes), I decided to give browns a chance for my gaming keyboard to not annoy the people in the next room too much. So I bought the Reddragon K556 with Outemu browns back then. At first, I found the browns to be a bad compromise between blues and linear switches. They simply don't have the tactility of blues. If I use blues, I only press them until they klick and often don't bottom them out. If I use linear switches, I always press them all the way down. Especially when gaming, I tried to use the browns like blues and only press them until I feel the bump. That didn't work for me, I started to dislike the keyboard. At some point, I decided to use the browns like linear switches and always press them all the way down. That did it for me. After two weeks, I was used to ignoring the bump when gaming while enjoying the slight tactility when typing. Now, three years later, I bought a Tecware Phantom keyboard with Outemu browns and apparently the same thin Chinese double shot key caps the Reddragon also has. What can I say, I instantly fell in love with that keyboard. I mainly use it for typing and the tactility, overall feel and sound just feels right to me. It gives me enough response to enjoy typing without annoying others too much with klicky noise.
My first mechanical key switches were Outemu Blues but I’ve come to prefer Browns due to them being a good in-between of Blues and Reds and being tactile while also quiet and easy to press. I’ve never used Blacks, but I’m sure I would like Reds, and I know I’m not a fan of Blues. Of course, it’s all up to personal preference. Thanks! :D
Thank you so much. I really needed this video. There were other videos but not like yours. So how many subs you have you are so professional in ur vids. Thank you again
I like the click of the blues the most but they're just a little too loud. Reds are quieter but don't have any tactile feedback. The browns slightly quieter than the reds, but have more tactile feedback. I prefer the browns for now. - WW
my newest mechanical keyboard (which is a full size keyboard called the "!Philco PK395" and the keyboard i typed this comment on) uses the outemu brown switches, my mom doesn´t see a diference in the press of this keyboard compared to my previous semi-mechanical keyboard called the "Bansontech BS 1202", but my dad (happy fathers day) saw the difference!, so for now, the outemu brown switches are my favorites!
Just asking, but which outemu switches are the newest : the one shown in this video or the other square shaped ones? I've heard that the old ones are pretty scratchy and feel bad when typing, and it was better to get Gateron/Kalih or the new outemus switches!
Blues: If you live alone and like confidence boost by tactile loud click sound. (Prefer for typing only, You will get click sounds while playing games - which is annoying for me, But good for fighting games) Brown: If you live with someone and do programming/coding/gaming. (Prefer for those who do both typing and gaming). (P.S I love brown switches as of the woody sound while typing) Reds: If you want minimum sound from the keyboard. (Not best for someone who wants better typing feedback, Best for gaming). (Go with silent reds for lowest sound and good feel)
I actually like two out of the 3 switches you reviewed. I like the browns overall for gaming and typing, but when it comes to just straight typing and don't plan on actually gaming with a particular keyboard, I actually love the blues for typing only settings. If I had to pick an all around keyboard though it would feature the brown switches for sure. But there is just one main thing, I prefer Cherry MX switches when it comes to brands.
Most helpful video I was looking for a sound test of browns, reds and blues and I was eyeing down the dierya too thank you (I ordered the dierya with browns)
I honestly hate how loud blues are but they’re so satisfying to click on while the reds and browns always feel a bit mushy for me! God damn it man it can never be a win win.
Hi can you please do an updated review on these? Ive heard they have become smoother and have updated stem design to reduce wobble. Maybe the actuation forces have also changed because I'm finding conflicting info online.
On reviewers say if Red Outemu is More scratchy. Is that true. Need to find the answer ASAP bcuz I ordered the outemu red keyboard and I dont want to regret it
I love my blues on the Rakk Ilis. Hella clicky. Kinda feeds my fidgeting in a way. Helps me play fps games just a tad better. Love your positivity! Much love from the Philippines. 😁♥️
@@abygailvidal8853 it's still pretty good after a year or so. I really enjoy the clicky sounds so it depends on your preference. I also suggest a change of keycaps to spice it up if you want. Looks a lot better with white pudding keycaps. 😁
@@luistorado6119 what mech keebs do you recommend btw, I was thinking of purchasing my first mech so what do you think would be the best option for like a long-time use, not much of a heavy gamer too.
would you mind trying and give your thoughts about: - outemu black - outemu purple - outemu teal blue - outemu sky v2.2 i can't find any good video about those switches, so maybe you can make one? :)
i'm looking at a few Redragon keyboards, namely the K586 and K580, the K586 (Pro and non-pro) seem to only come with blue switches while the K580 (Pro and non-pro) comes with blue and brown as well (no black, no red), but i can only find the blue versions of those too. Seems the only people who buy mechanical keyboards (at least around here) are ones who actually want it to be loud, many reviews praise how good the blues sound.
The Outemu blue switches on my Huo Ji Z-88 keyboard are OFF THE CHAIN! Better than the Royal Kludge RK87/RKS87 blue switches. The brown switches on my RK84 are my favorite. The Asus AI Noise Canceling Adapter for $30 can get rid of the blue switch click sound.
I love browns and swear by them, here's why. They're more tactile than reds, a linear feel when pressing the buttons down just feels off and cringey for me personally. I like the tactility of the blues but the sounds are torture to my ears especially when I'm writing codes. Browns are the middle spots for people who want something that's just a little bit louder than the reds but a little closer to the tactility of the blues.
@@ZentoraMAIN Tactile have a bump but it's not audible. Whereas linear have no bump or click sound, they are smooth. Reds are lightest, best for gaming. Tactile switches are alright for both.
@@ZentoraMAIN I wouldn't recommend O rings. While they do reduce sound they reduce the feeling what you get from using mechanical over membrane. But browns and reds are the quietest non silent line switches. If you need very quiet switches you'll need to look into Cherry MX silents etc.
I highly recommend keyboards with hot swappable switches. Been using browns for a few years, just ordered a new keyboard with reds and if I don't like them I can pull the switches out of my old one and replace them. For gaming, you can fine tune the switches on a per button basis. For example, very light clear switches for WASD, shift, space, and more punchy blue switches for Q, E, F, R, etc.
For me, I will start with the browns, because it's the middle ground for both red, and blue, and if I don't like the aspect of one key switch, I can always get a new one later.
Thanks for this! This was a very helpful video! I was originly stuck betwwen blue and brown. Since I will be streaming, I think I will be going with brown bcause of te noise. Also thanks for showing me how to pronouce Outemu lol. 4k BTW!
awesome! so glad I was able to help out. yeah blue would be so loud on a stream, lol.and I'm probably sayin Outemu wrong still, lol! btw what is your twitch or mixer channel?
I just picked up a REDRAGON Kumara K552 RGB and hated the Outem blue switches! I picked up some Outemu Red switches and while I was at it, removed all the stock keys and replaced them with the Hyper X Double Shot PBT high quality keys. It became a totally different keyboard! I love it! Here's a video I made with the finial upgrades and what the keys look like through the various modes. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nl5vdfDVf78.html
