There are 3 schools pretty much on Sunset Blvd. Yes make total sense to route MORE traffic on it.🙄 19th Ave is a nightmare on any given days. Getting through GGP always means sitting in traffic these days. Ocean Beach is so cold most days specially summer that hardly anyone is hanging around there. Keep it as it and only close on weekends and holidays. Love that Brian Hackney mentioned that no actual funding has been set aside to actually turn it into a park! Let's focus on revitalizing downtown where it will generate revenue for the City!!

The Great Highway is used heavily by residents in the Outer Richmond and Outer Sunset during the weekday and weekends. It shouldn't shutdown this way. The goal of the Great Highway is to route traffic away from the residential neighborhoods, but I guess the best way to make this a sticking point is for more pedestrians (families and children) to feel the pain of being side swiped and/or hit by more traffic in the residential streets. That's why you have vehicle insurance.
@stevelouie5928
@stevelouie5928 2 месяца назад
There is already two walking paths that run parallel to the great highway so I don't see the need to close it. I ride my bike there all the time and I just ride along side the cars. It's not a big deal.
@johnsung5090
@johnsung5090 2 месяца назад
@@stevelouie5928 It would be a great to install center running bike lanes in place of the current center dividing concrete island on Great Highway (i.e. similar to the Valencia Center running bike lane). Example: 2 lanes for vehicle traffic (Sloat Blvd. to Lincoln Way) - 2 lanes for bicycle riding (Center 2-Way Running Lanes) - 2 lanes for vehicle traffic (Lincoln Way to Sloat Blvd.)

If we close Great High Way, all the cars go into residents. That makes more dangerous for kids. Closing street dose not reduce number of car into the city.

As a past resident (renter) of Great Highway. I'm against it. The side streets will get swamped with car traffic. People won't drive less. It would be really easy to video the area for months and get car traffic readings to see the impact. Hate that we don't use real data.

Traffic has gotten worse since the pandemic in the sunset and richmond due to closing of the great highway and golden gate park. It won't be getting any better if the votes get through. 19th is congested enough and now you want sunset blvd to be the same? No thank you.

Traffic got worse because people were scared to take public transit, and bought cars, and got comfortable driving. But lets be real, the great highway and 19th ave are not good solutions for people trying to go from the north of San Francisco to the south of San Francisco and vice versa. They are surface streets turned into highways (this part of the great highway is not a true "highway"). We need real solutions for through traffic so we can keep local roads for local traffic.

@@lumberjackdreamer6267 Look around at the number of cars relative to the number of walkers and bicycles. Americans clearly want cars. I drive down Great Highway 5 days a week to commute to work by the Peninsula. Compared to going down 19th Ave. and Sunset Blvd, Great Highway is a MUCH smoother ride. I can hold 29-30 mph and go all the way through without braking, maximizing my MPG and gas efficiency. 19th Ave. and Sunset Blvd already get very congested, and the roads are terribly damaged. After years of segmented construction on 19th Ave., Caltrans finally paved a part of 19th ave...but just one part! -- I've been waiting years for this, and they didn't even pave the whole 19th Ave. Still full of bumps, uneven patchwork, and potholes. I remember when they paved the entire Park Presidio Blvd during the initial Covid lockdown; they were so quick, I didn't even witness the construction. Sunset Blvd's roads are also getting worse/damaged, and lanes are commonly closed for some kind of construction/tree work. Furthermore, the lights are not timed well so it's a lot of stop & go. You can't just close Great Highway without providing a decent alternative. Even now, when GH is temporarily closed on weekdays (for sand removal), it is already evident that traffic gets redirected to Sunset blvd and residential areas, which end up getting more congested and inefficient for traffic flow. As a resident of the Richmond District, I do enjoy the closed off GH on the weekends for recreation, but I need the path for commute more. If they repave ALL of 19th ave and Sunset Blvd, AND improve the traffic light timing...then I may reconsider my opinion on closing GH.

On weekdays, the Great Highway serves tens of thousands of commuters daily. It prevents gridlock in residential neighborhoods where children walk to school and play outdoors, and it is the safest and most efficient road in the city. If the commuters who use this route lose it, they will be forced through Sunset neighborhoods, making the streets dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists. It will add more time to their commute and the stop and go traffic on the Avenues or Sunset Blvd will cause more emissions to be spewed in the air. And to make matters worse, these tens of thousand of commuters will not even be able to enjoy the benefits of a weekday park because...they will be working! Even children will not benefit from a Great Highway "park" on weekdays. They will be in school, in sports programs, at after-school programs, at summer programs, or at home doing homework. A weekday “park” will only benefit the tiny minority of people who are lucky enough to work from home - or not work at all - and can play at a park anytime they want. And that is not most of us.

Let's triple or quadruple the property taxes of the homeowners along great highway to both pay for the park to be built as well subsidize business as well as mass transit upgrades to service the area to make it accessible to all San Franciscans. They should also be responsible for paying reparations to any minority owned business that gets displaced. Also allowing permits for high rises and other multi-family housing in the neighborhood with a percentage going to help pay for the new park and infrastructure.

@@coachelly86 To say that people can like or leave is not social. It is against people and is exclusive. If it harms more than it helps it is against more people or anti social. The Highway draws more cars than bikes or walkers. The cars benefit more people. That coldness against some to benefit some idea is antisocial.

😂😅I will never forget a war on cars SF dude. He said; "everyone gets to enjoy the street." In Chicago 2023 the teenagers came out and caused trouble the mayor minimized it and said; "well the teens just wanted to enjoy the street"😅😂 BTW I really loved the little boys expressions like, "why am I here and why are they here?"😅😂
