He's doing work on the children's swingset, as well as projects in the summer kitchen, root cellar, and outhouse. Busy, busy all the time! Stay tuned until the end of the video to see a last-minute 5th project that we get to work on next!

I hope these videos from Shawn inspire people to invest in a good education whether it is college classes, night school or community based projects that will teach them to do a number of different skills that they can utilise when needed or as a career. My Dad could turn his hand to just about anything from electrics and mechanics to joinery or plumbing. He even taught himself to use a sewing machine to make curtains and seat covers for our first holiday home. The skills Shawn is passing on to the boys is one of the best gifts he could give them. Many blessings to you all ❤️🕯️🙏🌱

I'm 48 & my great grandmother lived in Ethel MO; she had an outhouse, a "hill" in her living room, and well water that was delicious! I'm so glad I was able to experience that until I was 14!❤

Very interesting about the difference between screws and nails! It is neat that you find use for every single thing!! You are going to have the best looking outhouse in Missouri! Great Video Shawn, very informative! Even though I don't do any work like this, it is still very interesting to watch! The scope of things that you can do yourself is amazing and it is awesome that your children can learn all these various skills from you! You can't pay for an education like that!!

Shawn, it’s quite possible, I could listen to you discuss a variety of subjects all day long as well as see the amazing progress being made on various projects around the homestead. Of particular interest is the updated outhouse as it looks a bit more inviting than what was before. Being a genuine Servant of God, dear Shawn, you’ve been blessed with talents and skills which aides your ability to properly care for your family. My dream is to visit someday via a RV,where I could roll out my rocking chair with all my hoses of oxygen and enjoy listening to your stories. Hello! 👋🏻 I did enjoy the video, Shawn! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Good use of using what you have. I live in Southern California (prime earthquake country-had one the other day, as a matter of fact) and we use bungee-type cords on our metal pantry shelves to keep food from slipping and sliding. Even with a little old house in the suburbs, maintenance is never ending. Have a wonderful day! 😀

(from Shawn) We have indoor plumbing in the house. The house is located very close to the summer kitchen where the new bedroom will be. The outhouse is handy when outside or when the power goes out which can be for an extended time when you live out a ways.

Question for Janice - where is the most economical place to buy dishwasher soap? Thanks
@ozarkfamilyhomestead
@ozarkfamilyhomestead 8 месяцев назад
The best deal that I've found is the Great Value generic dishwasher pods at Wal-Mart. I get the 96 count in a plastic cube for $9.98. That breaks down to $0.104 per load. I also like to keep the plastic cubes to use as storage bins out in Shawn's shop. They're pretty large and stack really well, so I feel like I'm getting a little bit of a bonus that way too! :)

Is there any reason why you just didn't build an addition on your home?
@ozarkfamilyhomestead
@ozarkfamilyhomestead 8 месяцев назад
(from Shawn) The house is half under-ground, built into the side of the hill, with windows across the front for light. Based on the design, it was much cheaper to build a separate building than the complete restructuring of an Earth-berm home.

Hi, Janice and Shawn, I loved the video! I believe you and Shawn are good people and your children are precious. I read that you had to set up a Paypal because your wish list had been sabotaged and I am sorry to hear that. We only had two children to raise and I can't imagine trying to feed, cloth, and educate a large family. However, this brings me to my question and I mean no harm by it and do not have a tone, I would like to know the need for an outdoor kitchen? To each his own, just curious.❤ Also, thanks for the feedback on making your own broth. I am also going to try your kombucha recipe.
@ozarkfamilyhomestead
@ozarkfamilyhomestead 8 месяцев назад
(from Shawn) We call it an outdoor kitchen, but that is only one function of the building. It has a wood cookstove and will also have a propane over/range, fridge, sink, etc. that a kitchen would have. This allows canning, processing animals, and large meal preps to occur in a larger area. There will also be a gathering room, to eat, have family events, and our Bible study group. Upstairs will be a bedroom for the boys, freeing up a bedroom in the house for the girls. There will also be a sewing room since Sarah is making clothing. The building will provide needed extra space since our family of 9 has outgrown our home.
