Outlander 7x3 REACTION (Death Be Not Proud)

After first finishing the show (back when there were only 5 seasons out), I too wasn't ready to say goodbye to Fraser's Ridge and its occupants - and took the next few months to read the books. I wish you all the joy I had with the experience (plus the 1.5 seasons and 1 book that came out since). We're coming up on some of my favorite plot lines, and while I'm excited and can't wait - I also don't want the journey to end! You'll have to join the Droughtlanders in our torturous wait until late this year...

Whether you rewatch from the beginning or go back to your favorite seasons or episodes, it is still SO enjoyable! Also things will be UNBELIEVABLY clear when you rewatch with all the context of what you learned the first time. I’ve rewatched MANY times and I STILL find something new everytime! Ian was conspicuously missing from the episode when William and Lord John visited Fraser's Ridge, so I guess they decided to retroactively say he was there, just never on screen. It's too bad because his presence in the book made for an interesting juxtaposition of the very different ways the two cousins were raised. But we'll get hints of that later. The barmaid wasn't in the book, and we've never seen her again on the show, so I think it's safe to say that she did not get pregnant. Fergus, being the son of a brothel, took it upon himself to sexually educate ALL of Jenny's sons, much to Jamie's frustration, by taking them to brothels when they were teenagers, so Ian lost his virginity on the same night in the book, but it was after the printshop burned, not before. Prostitutes did use birth control that was somewhat effective, (shoving a vinegar-soaked sponge into her cervix or maybe ingesting small amounts of poison), but of course, no birth control is 100% effective, any 18th century birth control is a lot less effective than the birth control methods of today. So it's certainly a possibility that there are illegitimate grandchildren of Jenny out there, but since the mothers were prostitutes, there would be no way of knowing for sure that Jenny's sons were the fathers. (Actually, there's a better chance William has children from prostitutes. He could afford it more often. But again, there's no way to know, so for the purpose of the story, Ian, his brothers, and William do not have any children from prostitutes, one-night stands, etc.) The Jacobite gold storyline was a lot more complicated in the books. When they barely touched on it in seasons 5 and 6, I thought they might have cut it, but they just trimmed it down and squeezed it all in just a few moments of conversation with the Bugs and then the Spaniard's Cave scene.

Yes, not only is the Claire & Jamie love story one to look up to, but the sense of community and family (blood and found family) is inspiring. It's something that's harder to find these days in real life, at least in big cities. I agree completely, as disturbing as some of the scenes can be, the overall effect of this show is like a warm, fuzzy slippers or a lovely cup of tea! I appreciate your reactions partly because I can always feel that in common with you. That, and you look way beyond the surface and the storyline to make it relatable to yourself, to explore your own reality. Great fiction like this is gives us the opportunity to do that, but not everybody digs that deep. I love it! You always get me thinking :)

You will love the books 📚. I listen to them on Audible. You have to read the Lord John books 📚 as well. The Scottish Prisioner show how Jamie and Lord John became friends. And the are mostly during the 20 years apart. I hope 🙏 you review the books 📚 too

Ethan did what he did to protect his uncle(Jaime). That woman was armed with the intent to kill. She shouldn't have been snooping around anyway.

As much as I hate ms bug dying, she was raising her hun at Jamie to shoot, so I fully support what Ian did, even tho it’s so sad.

Thank you for another amazing reaction! I Hope you enjoyed Claire singing during the funeral, for me, it was so emotional. I already read all the books and I swear you're gonna love all, my favorite ones are: book #1, book # 8, and book #9... books 4, 5, and 7 are my least favorites but still amazing and necessary to understand better what is happening in the episodes, actually I don't remember if they mentioned it in this episode but at the end, we see Claire so emotional, not only because all they are leaving behind, but because she remembers that Jamie's grave is in Scotland, so she fears that this trip means Jaime's death.
