Spoiler: Malva wasn't an evil person; she was a victim. She was murdered because she felt horrible about accusing Jamie of being the father of her unborn child, because of how much it hurt Claire. The real father killed her so that she would not reveal who he was. It might be different in the show than in the books, but I feel uncomfortable with you blaming Malva, a victim of pedophilia and incest for many years, for being so afraid of her abuser that she did as she was told, and accused Jamie. Clearly, her fear was justifed, as she paid with her life when she decided to tell the truth. Was Malva blameless? No; she would have been safe enough in accusing the real perpetrator that first day. She did poison Claire, too, but it was out of despiration. She also dabbled in witchcraft, but probably more in an effort to feel that she had some control over her own life. Malva is a tragic character, not an evil person, one in need of rescue, but too cowed to be able to ask for help. Like so many abused women and girls, she was eventually killed by her abuser. She does not deserve to be posthumously labeled as an evil person.
Was she a good person while she was spying in the barn? She did that on her own accord and she was about the same as black jack as far as her mind goes

Insofar as it goes, she was spying in the barn because she was curious, because her own experiences had been traumatic and Claire told her that things didn't have to be like that. Of course she shouldn't have been spying. Just because she's a victim does not mean that she was a perfect person or even a good person. Just one that is not worthy of being called evil. Everything she does makes sense in light of her trauma. That doesn't mean that she always made good choices or moral choices.
I want Diane to keep writing about Outlander and keep the love between Jamie and Clair alive and thriving. You are a fabulous writer and I love this story line. Please continue. I binge watched the first five when I was having COVID. I am waiting for more! Thank you!
Malva is Gayles's daughter. I think she had the baby and didn't actually burn at the stake as a witch because she was pregnant. I haven't read the books, but the timing seems right as a possibility, and she is defiantly evil enough to have come from her. Also, her father was at the witch trial when he was in prison with Jamie...remember? Maybe he took the baby and raised it? Maybe Gaylis is alive, or even if she did die, she was a time traveler too. However, no woman would so devotedly accept her husband after being accused of getting another woman pregnant, then he tells her he did actually cheat on her before, but it wasn't the one currently accusing him of rape and getting her pregnant. NO WAY would a woman just lovingly accept his word, forgive him and wrap her arms around him! NO!!!!!!! A wife would never believe him again. Never. Not to mention she does a C-section in the garden...No. This is too much.
As an avid watcher of Outlander, this is what I wonder. Could a time traveler from the latter part of the 20th Century, let alone a time traveler from today in the 21st Century, possibly biologically survive in the 18th Century? Likewise, would a time traveler from today in the 21st Century who time travels to the 18th Century, pose a risk of giving coronavirus, A.I.D.S. and other diseases of today to people in the 18th Century?
