Roses on cakes are typically made out of fondant and fondant can be pretty good on cake as long as it’s not thick. Fondant rolled out thinly doesn’t take a lot from the cake.

They actually got more sugar roses made which were only for eating and were not a part of the decoration. My family love all things that are sugary so there was a lot of bargaining around the tables 😂 - the roses were of course removed before cutting the cake so no wire accidents

You can easily make a beer cake out of actual cake. It is hard yes, but a good chef can pull it off. He isn’t a good chef so he uses crispies instead.

@Philosophy I love the very natural naked cakes. They're so pretty. There is also a lot of butter cream art techniques such as russian piping or buttercream painting. It's very easy to avoid this kind of cake but I guess that wouldn't have suited a ball room theme. Even still they could have done a marble glaze to make it smooth and sleek looking. (also the cake was kinda ugly in my opinion...)

Usually for weddings they have these expensive show cakes, used for the cutting part of the wedding, and then a sheet cake to actually serve people lol

they'll still be mainly cake. But they use riice crispies on the outside to get the shape and then fondant for the pretty. A cake like that is way too hard to cut evenly
